The services to Ayr has been restored on the 17th June but it was great that you did took a trip on that quirky Ayr Shuttle service which is sadly a footnote in history. Services to Stranrear will be operating in July hopefully. But for £33 that is a epic Journey, Great video G

The Irish Sea can be brutal. I remember sailing from Liverpool and as soon as we left the Mersey estuary, it was like being on a big dipper. One old bloke ran on the deck, took his top denture out, and threw up over the side and as he was in mid chunder, a seagull took his teeth. Never laughed as much in me life. X

The best bit about these is that if you get the Anytime Return version, the outbound is valid for 5 days! Handy if you want to go from the south coast, and up to Scotland on the sleeper to grab the ferry the next day instead of trying to do the whole thing in one day.

Up until some years back, the boats used to stop at Stranraer, from where there was a direct connection onto the train. From the fact that they're using a minibus for the link top Ayr, it seems there aren't many foot passengers anymore!

£33 for all of that? I'd say you got yourself the bargain of the year! That ferry crossing to Cairnryan looked as smooth as anything - I have not done it myself but would love to, one day. (Oh, funny story... I got myself a book about the dreaded Pacers as I have a strange fascination with those buses on rails, and as I was flicking through it looking at the lovely photos, I came across a couple of pictures taken at Wigan Wallgate!)

I did the RailSail from Lincoln to Dublin Ferryport as part of a trip to Belfast. Not bad for £54. Although the Arriva Trains Wales service conked out on the way to Holyhead and I missed my booked ferry and had to wait a few hours for the next one. That meant that I had even longer to indulge in some more wine and nibbles in the Irish Ferries Club Class lounge (paid for directly with IF). And, Arriva had to refund the whole ticket price because I arrivwd three hours late into Dublin. So, a win, win.

That was the day I met you and got a selfie in Central. The train was very late into London as there was an incident at Watford. We were going to London so my wife could see Barry Manilow. She had seen him the previous two weekends and was back in London to see him again the following weekend too.
The big rock out in the sea south of Ayr is Ailsa Craig. It’s used to make curling stones. Your Dodds of Troon bus probably took the A77. The coast road from Culzean to Ayr is better and includes the Electric Brae. A hill that looks like you’re going up when you’re really going down. It’s fun on a bike.
Ayr Station Hotel had been bought and left to fall into disrepair for years. For a while it was in a big tent to stop bits landing on the track then, to nobody’s surprise, it burnt down.

I see Stena are taking the art form of small items; big prices from railway companies... £6 for chips & a coke 🤯
Suppose it has to happen at some point, is certainly quite the view to take nonetheless!

That was a great film G, loved it. I did not know there was such a thing as a Rail and Sail ticket. I am old enough to remember when British Rail operated their own ferries and the ships had the British Rail logo on the funnel.

that Stena line ship looks amazing & def a lot to offer onboard & im liking the views from the minicoach & the ScotRail 380s are great & ive ridden a few of those when i did my trip to Scotland last Month shame that theres only charge ports on the 2 by 4 seated areas but would be nice if they had them at all the seats like the rest of the ScotRail fleet & i like Glasgow Central def a lovely station awesome vlog as always

Lovely station as Glasgow Central is! I have been visiting that station on a holiday in 2018. Also lovely by means of design is the BR class 390 Pendolino.

Belfast to Glasgow is one of the best bus journeys in the UK! (takes 5 hours-2 hours on the boat).

Great video, G. Was the minibus journey so long because the railway to Stranraer is closed because of the fire?
The rail-sail tickets are meant to be great value. Another one that’s meant to be good is rail-sail with the Harwich - hook of Holland route. I’ve taken that route with the car and it’s great to take the overnighter and have a cabin on the ferry :)

your next ferry route mission is Aberdeen to Orkney and also Orkney to Shetland Isles - I have connections to Orkney so we could get you a cheaper ticket and a brilliant person to stay with - she is an official Orkney tour guide and she hires out rooms in her own house

@@GLovesTrains and beyond, Shetland to the Faroes then up to Iceland. Some Helicopter travel involved in that as well. So essentially, Island hopping from Scotland to Iceland.
