I actually went to a Montessori school when I was younger, kinda on accident, as I wasn't great with big crowds (I went to a "daymum" instead of daycare), and my regular school would've had 30 kids in my class vs 7. Anywho, at the time I didn't appreciate just how much it helped me and suited me, with the more tailored education and also being able to choose what I wanted to work on and not be forced by a schedule. So whenever I have kids I want to enroll them in a Montessori school as well, because being older I've realised just how lovely it was for me as a child and personal growth from a young age.
I worked at Montessori nursery when I first left college and was there for three years . It is such an interesting method of teaching and concept in general. I work in a " Regular" Nursery now but I think I shall always have a bit of that within me . Also my love for wooden toys! haha. Some lovely bits here x
I always thought I’d work in a nursery! Maybe one day! Xxxx
I worked for two years in a Montessori school and learnt so much. I love the precision regarding language (animals puzzles you can take out and draw round then label the parts of the 1natomy, like forelocks for the horse). So great for learning maths and reading too ( sandbox and s1ndpaper letters on smooth wooden tiles)...
It’s so interesting to notice that people who follow Montessori method with their kids also have boho inspired home interior in general ❤️ 🏠 all the plants and macrame 👏🏻love it 💗
These look all brilliant! Thanks for the ideas!
I love these!!
Love these ideas! So good for sparking imagination and not hideous like some toys! We just bought a Pikler climbing frame and slide for our 1 year old and he loves it! ❤️
Yes I love those!! I need to upgrade to a huge one for my older ones now 😂🧡
If you love learning about different philosophies for children’s learning while playing, I highly suggest reading about the Reggio Emilia theory. Its definitely my favourite out of all the theories out there and I use it daily with the children I work with.
Such good suggestions thank you!
Ooh this has come at such a good time as I am doing a makeover on our playroom! I have got really into Montessori toys lately x
Me too! They keep them so busy xx
This is so lovley!! Thank you SJ!
Thank you Tess - so lovely to get a nice message :-) x
Love your content.
Such beautiful ideas SJ! ☺️ I’m a huge fan of wooden toys so I will be keeping this list handy the next time I’m buying a present for my little cousin - she’s two and a half now so I think these would be perfect for her! ☺️
Oh yes they would! And such a good present as they will last her xxxx
Love this video, SJ. You’re the best at parenting content 💡👌🏻
Ah I'm so happy you liked it - thanks so much, I really love these toys so was fun to share xx
Oh these are such beautiful toys. I love the flashcards! My son is turning three in August so I might pick up a couple of these for him! Thank you sooooo much for sharing lovely! 😊 Xxx
Oh yes they're so pretty, the wobbel board will be amazing for him too - i wish I'd had one earlier :-) xxx
SJ Strum it looks amazing! I saw that Lego table on Kate’s vid as well that I thought would be great because we will be getting him some new Lego too. So strange he’s not a baby anymore though! 🥰 Xx
Thanks!
I love these recommendations. From a teacher's perspective, it's actually quite common for children to learn to recognize and even write in all capitals before they move on to lowercase.
Ah really! I’ve always seen it the other way, that’s good to know :-) xxx
@@SJ_Strum Interesting! I wonder if it differs country to country. I'm in the U.S.
I think we were taught lower case first in primary school, in Scotland. But maybe it depends on the curriculum or philosophy the school follows, sure I learnt lowercase first though. I guess at the end of the day it doesn't matter because you learn both eventually ☺️😁
Thank you for the inspiration 😃
There's some great things here - the tetris game is a MUST! ha ha! xxx
Woohoo! I have a Waldorf/Montisorri inspired home and I spend many a happy hour lusting after lovely wooden toys! 🙄🙊
😂 ahhh it must be amazing to do the whole home x
I got a wobble board for my daughter in lockdown! It has been so great, her one is a chalk board too, (it gets messy!!) But it's so worth it. She sits on it and plays with it as shes watching TV too. :)
Issie B ah cute! I’ll definitely get her one x
I love that they are wooden and no plastic 💕
Yes we do have a lot of plastic from over the last 10 years but these are so beautiful and sustainable x
@@SJ_Strum I think wooden toys are coming back. There are so pretty ones, too.
We pretty much only have Montessori toys and use a Montessori approach but have such a hard time getting our nesr 2.5 year old interested! Never used to be a problem. Our 5 month old loves his Montessori toys and is v independent and great st playing for his age
A piggyback comment; I'm wondering if you have tips to keep toddlers interested?
We have that board and love it btw
The wobble
Hello! I have a just turned two year old and the things that I have found keep his attention are anything to do with roll playing at the moment... playing doctors and then going through body parts. He loves things from outdoors like stones and pine cones where we talk about what’s rough and smooth, heavy and light, lining them up from smallest to largest and just general counting with them! Hope this is helpful x
It’s a very changeable age isn’t it! Just follow his interests - sometimes they really want something just ‘theirs’ to do and I bet he’ll love being outside this summer x
You must have read my mind as in looking at Montessori toys at the min! I like you have not done the whole house Montessori but love to take elements like toys. Great video! Would love to hear your thought on the different educational styles ie British vs swedish and the benefit
Hi - oh yes great idea. The trends change so much in parenting I find but Sweden are normally bit ahead of us!! Xxx
I went to a montessori preschool for a year. i don’t remember much but i do remember it being very different from my other traditional preschool. the “teachers” let us kind of reign free and pretty much do whatever we wanted, we also did a lot of art lol
I would love to see a list of girl names that start with Z! My favorites are Zadie, Zahra, Zuri, and Zada. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I don’t like any of the Zoe/Zoey/Zooey/Zoie variants.
I wish I could find the flash cards in the states where I live. If you can find it, please help me find a link for it. I’m so sad not to have found it. You’ve really given great advice and tips. 💜
Hi. What is the American version of Joan choi? I see a couple that look like this toy on amazon
Hi SJ! Loved the video. What do you think of the boy name Caius and the girl name Cielle? I'm newly pregnant and am looking through names :)
Ooo I love the name cielle
I'm not first
and i'm not last
but when SJ uploaded
I clicked fast!
Ahhhh thank you :-))))) xxxxxx
Baby names question!
I'm trying to think of a girl name. I have 2 girls named Keeley and Zara. We love the name Nadia but im not sure about a middle name. I want something with a nice meaning that sounds good with our last name Kumar.
I really hope I can get your help! :D
New subscriber !!
Hi, I am not SJ but wanted to help! First of all, Keeley is so cute and Zara is one of my all time favorites. Your girls have great names. I really like Nadia, and I think it goes pretty well with your girls names. For middle names... what type of meaning exactly are you looking for? Do you prefer more classic or more out there names? I think that anything that doesn’t end in a vowel sound would be nice with Nadia. Here are some ideas that fit your criteria...
Nadia Calliope Kumar “Beautiful voice”
Nadia Jolie Kumar “Beautiful or pretty”
Nadia Sadie Kumar “Princess” (I also like Zadie, which means the same thing, but it may be too close to Zara)
Nadia Lilybelle Kumar “Beautiful lily”
Nadia Mabel Kumar “My beautiful one”
Nadia Omorose Kumar “The beautiful child”
Nadia Lynne Kumar “Beautiful waterfall”
Nadia Rosaleen Kumar “Beautiful little rose”
Nadia Esther Kumar “Star”
Nadia Venus Kumar “Goddess of beauty and love”
Nadia Evangeline Kumar “Bearer of good news”
Nadia Gwyneth Kumar “Blessed, happy”
Nadia Ellen Kumar “Bright shining star”
Nadia Faye Kumar “Fairy”
Nadia Alexis Kumar “Helper, defender”
Nadia Ruth Kumar “Compassionate friend”
Nadia Gabrielle Kumar “God is my strength”
Nadia Marie Kumar “Beloved, wished for child”
Nadia Beatrice Kumar “Bringer of joy” “Voyager or traveler”
Nadia Ariel Kumar “Lion of god”
Nadia Alice Kumar “Noble”
Nadia Madeleine Kumar “Elevated, great, magnificent”
Nadia Heidi Kumar “Of noble birth”
Nadia Abigail Kumar “Father’s joy”
Nadia Anne Kumar “Favored grace”
Nadia Grace Kumar “Goodness, generosity”
Nadia Vivian Kumar “Full of life”
Nadia Mackenzie Kumar “Child of the wise leader”
Nadia Millie Kumar “Free-born, strength, determination” (Love this!!!)
Nadia Violet Kumar “Beautiful flower”
Nadia Felicity Kumar “Happiness”
Nadia Mildred Kumar “Gentle strength”
Nadia Bernadette Kumar “As strong as a bear”
Hope that you liked some of those! Good luck!
It’s annoying that they make the letters in capitals, as it’s such a nice game
