What did you think of Chickenrat???? And here’s some more videos you might like (aka Bluey Character Deep Dives): ua-cam.com/play/PLUfGm4QGG0TuZKi9paom_4mRoDLMQvpod.html
I'd also give it 3 long dogs, maybe even 3 1/2. I like the rather unique flashback format, it teaches a good lesson, plus otherwise I find it a rather, I guess I'll say, cute episode overall.
I prefer the burp because i just explain that its not an "allergy" but an intolerance- like lactose intolerance. People can still eat dairy, but it makes their stomach really upset and sick... aaaand gassy. Edit: they like anime so much i wonder if theyll do an Akira slide at some point.
I just realised that bandit allergy to sauerkraut but still eating it and sneezing reminds of various moments in Dora and friends where a character named Pablo loves peppercorn but it makes him sneeze
The allergy thing is actually pretty serious. Kids don't always understand the severity of some allergies and can end up harming themselves or others with them. Also, just because an allergy is mild, doesn’t mean you aren't at risk of anaphylaxis (a severe reaction).
At one of my in-laws' recent parties, my husband went through the fridge. With the most serious expression, he asked if they had any chickenrat eggs. None of them watch Bluey, so they were all beyond confused 😂
I’m on the side of the changes here. Allergies, even minor ones, can be life threatening. And while this show is for all ages, it’s target audience is little kids who won’t understand the concept of severity, plus it’s a group that’s probably already at risk for eating allergies because allergies are kind of hard to grasp for young kids. (A random food makes only a few people get very sick, but the food isn’t bad. But that also means friends can have it, but you can’t.) Sure, it’s up to the parents to teach their kids stuff and monitor them, but having a role model adult in shows they are supposed to learn from treating an allergy as a gag seems a bit like it may undermine things. I wouldn’t blame the show outright, but I think it’s a poor choice at the very least and understandably censored. Not to mention sauerkraut can just give people burps, so the alterations have logic. Burps are nothing serious or dangerous and kids love them, so a better gag imo.
@ChicagoMel23 lol of course, you'd have the Murica pokemon as your pfp. Also, 60% of the world would beg to differ. It's been only one god for a VERY short amount of time. However, go on, I won't judge. I haven't been an edgy athiest for a very long time. More of a laid-back agnostic.
As someone who grew up in a allergy household (we were all very allergic to peanuts) I think the censorship was the best thing to do,I can definitely imagine me and my brother seeing that as kids and trying to copy it,kids don’t understand the siverity and rage of sivarities of allergies
Chickenrat was my VERY first episode! I was pretty much “half-watching” the TV at a friend’s house, thinking, “this is just okay, kinda cute… for a baby show,” and then… Bingo: “what’s a chickenrat?” Bluey: “it’s half chicken and half rat!” At that moment, I fell in love and was totally sold! QUESTION! Do you think Floppy is a Jellycat? That’s my headcanon!
The food allergy bit was such a big dose of hypocrisy on the part of the censors. That is literally a category of common comedic gag, mostly around people with lactose intolerance eating ice cream or cheese on purpose because they love it so much or hate the vegan cheese/other artificial options so much. There's a nuance to what medical issues can do to someone. This allergy thing actually also gets comedic mileage out of people with shellfish allergies, with them loving the shellfish so much and then getting all blotchy and itchy.
There is a huge difference between a food intolerance and a full on allergy, which they should've specified. Allergies, even mild ones, can be potentially deadly due to the risk of anaphylaxis, while having a food intolerance is uncomfortable, but not typically severely harmful.
I don’t think that’s a good gag for a young kid’s show. Not only are allergies and intolerances different, but kids for the target audience of Bluey aren’t going to immediately understand the differences that allergies can have in severity. But, even if the allergy isn’t severe, it can endanger your life if treated lightly. Sure, it’s up to parents to teach this kind of thing, but I feel that can be a bit actively undermined if a show their supposed to learn from, much less a role model adult in said show, is using an allergy as a gag.
I honestly like the burp better, it makes me laugh more than the sneezing. My great grandma is allergic to chocolate where it makes her sneeze, and she LOVES chocolate, so she’ll eat it anyways lol. Gonna give this episode a 2.5/5 longdogs
Bandit isn't allerigc he's more has an Intolerance to Sauerkraut if he is allergic he would get a rash and his throat will swell, while an Intolerance just gives him digestive issues thus the burping and he's probably going in the bathroom for a long time
Interesting. I thought it was the other way around. That the burping was the original and was censored due to some countries been oversensitive to bodily functions 😅 In regards to the allergy/intolerance debate. The sneezing thing does not really fit and it does not look good if Bandit is ignoring it. This also doesn't match with the other instances relating to allergies/intolerance. That is the times that they have mentioned Gluten Free in episodes. Bandit had to pack a Gluten Free lunch for one of the girls. He is aware of how food allergies work and would not be so risky with his own.
I doubt the entire episode is a Simpsons reference. Yes, there could be a few references in the episodes here and there, but the pigeon-rat which Hugo made is normally something you have to explain to someone what it is. If they were gonna make an entire episode as a reference to Treehouse of Horror, they would choose a more iconic Treehouse of Horror than the Hugo one.
i can't be the only one confused about why they would be considered over food allergies but completely fine with promoting the dogs liking and eating chocolate though? like do they think kids will never think "Oh Bandit likes chocolate maybe my dog will too !!" and give them chocolate? i think it's pretty similar but that wasn't removed
You know, Originally in the United States, They had Bandit actually burping from the sauerkraut after he would eat it in Chickenrat, but then all of sudden, they changed it to where Bandit would sneeze from the sauerkraut instead as to reference food allergies, and then Australia would originally have the sneezing to now where it has changed to burping. I kind of don’t get why the sudden changes, but it’s just interesting that there are two different versions of when Bandit is eating the sauerkraut in this episode and would either be burping or sneezing.
Hey, Aussie girl Margie Thank you so much for making these videos. You’re really talented. I’m your biggest fan in Bluey’s biggest fan and your insights are amazing Also, thank you for teaching me about the Long dog Easter egg I have low vision so it really helps that you zoom in so I can see them. You have no idea how much this means to me. Thank you.
7:18 I think it's funny that Heelers would just have a random photo of a tennis ball, ok theory is the picture was taken by Bingo or Bluey, and Bandit and Chili framed it because it was their first photograph, also I'm leaning towards Bingo because in Surprise we saw that she travels and was even went to Chile so she might become a photographer probably for a magazine like National Geographic
Oh and the magic wand that Bluey and Bingo are using I believe is a reference to Kirby and the Star Rod. The handle is the same color of pink and white swirls, and the yellow star at the top.
Currently, the Finnish dubbing of Chickenrat episode is not available on the Yle Areena streaming service, but as I recall, in that version, Rontti (Bandit) tells that he is not seriously allergic when Tuuri (Bluey) and Pommo (Bingo) reminds him of his allergy.
It could be possible that Floppie has had repairs to the ears resulting in the variations? If it's a favorite toy then it's understandable if the ears are touched and grabbed a lot and get worn out. And with the colors not being crazy different, and still being striped, it seems like repairs could be a good reason.
I've never seen the original version with Bandit sneezing. Where I live in South Africa they only show the edited version of him burping 😅 Also I have a mild peanut allergy but I wouldn't have been bothered by the sneezing
Yeah it’s just that one throw away line from bingo, they honestly could have just changed that instead of reanimating it to a burp and redoing the lines
@@aussiegirlmargieExactly. If the line was simply “doesn’t sauerkraut make you sneeze” it would have still worked and not had the same issues that calling it an allergy did. The people I know with food allergies can’t just eat the things they are allergic too and sneeze, the consequences are generally the equivalent of severe food poisoning at best. If it was an issue that sauerkraut makes Bandit sneeze, gives him heartburn (which can be tied to belching), or makes him gassy, you can understand why he eats it even if his body hates it afterwards. Allergy isn’t the same as an intolerance or difficulty digesting.
actually I think the burping one is more funny! also theres a few toys I want from you too hehe started watching Bluey after Dad Baby was online & now I got the DVD of it! the DVD has the Australian versions of 10 episodes 3rd disc
I actually like the "Sorry, I got a problem" line. If they used that line in the original versions ending, it could've explained to kids eating something your allergic to is still "a problem".
I love your vids also I think they should keep it as a burp so they don’t teach kids to still eat what your alirgic to. Pls replay it would make my day!!!
I feel for Bingo also with Floppy because she should have her ll the time now in the series because its just so cute for both of them to bind as in Sleepytime
I just watched on Disney Jr. a little while back, and it still had the sneezing. And I'm sorry, but I find censoring this episode to be a bit silly. As others downthread have mentioned, a lot of allergy symptoms are not particularly serious. And how far do we have to go in censoring anything that someone somewhere might conceivably misconstrue or otherwise find disturbing?
I feel like what you said isn't that truthful. It is true that some people only have mild symptoms when it comes to food allergies, but what about things like nut allergies? Symptoms that are usually severe enough to be potentially deadly. Allergies like pollen and dust can be downplayed a little for tv, but food allergies are not something to take lightly. Kids shouldn't be thinking a food allergy is no big deal. That can be dangerous for them and others. There are plenty of instances where people have been hospitalized because someone else didn't understand the severity of their food allergy.

I've never seen the burping version, only the sneezing version XD I wasn't even aware that they changed it but I can understand why. I over all like the sneezing version cause the burping version seems too awkward.

Instead, I would say to talk about shortcomings on how the Bluey cartoon could be improved even more instead of making it remain unchanged starting from showing more real traditional Australia.
Not very well liked??? That’s a surprise for me. I find it adorable with Bingo and Bluey’s backtracking to Bandit’s relatable (for US Disney+ version which has him burping because of the sauerkraut.) as I love kimchi. So I’m surprised people would rate this lower or among skipable episodes.
@@aussiegirlmargie It's a family trait for me. My father, uncle and cousins have it as well. I do get asking why do I eat it, and I have the reply of it only makes me sneeze. It's like the body thinks it is something to try to keep out, and doesn't understand it's safe.
I actually like the Chickenrat episode. My least favourite episode is where Bluey's pretending to be the mum who has a favourite. Her and her sister were being horrible and Bluey even gets abusive. She was literally pulling on Bandit's ear and he's just going along with it. If that was me I wouldn't play the game anymore. There's just so many things wrong about that episode. The whole Bingo misbehaving, making Bluey realise what she did was wrong. It comes off as more Bluey has learnt that Bandit was telling the truth and so is believing what he's saying rather than understand why favouritism is wrong. But who knows? Perhaps in another episode she could learn more about favouritism or the difference between believing and understanding.
@@aussiegirlmargie Not sure about broadcast, but just checked BBC iplayer and they have the burp version too. Very bizarrely, Chickenrat was actually the poster episodes when you click on the series.

OMG I JUST REMEBERED THAT WHERES SOPT EXISTS!!!!!!! CHILDHOOD MEMORY UNLOCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chickenrat definitely isn’t an episode I would rewatch.
cartoon hater
hi I'm from Italy, in our version Bandit burps and it made it funnier
I generally thought that the original was fine, but I understand why they changed it
The original is Bandit burping also sidenote that version is in the Polish version of bluey
I guess I’m in the minority because I love this episode 😂❤
Love to see some love for this episode
Mine is im allergic to chocolate, it makes me sneeze only.
You’re the second person now to mention a chocolate allergy with sneezing that’s so interesting! Glad to hear it’s not anaphylactic
@@aussiegirlmargie It's a family trait for me. My father, uncle and cousins have it as well. I do get asking why do I eat it, and I have the reply of it only makes me sneeze. It's like the body thinks it is something to try to keep out, and doesn't understand it's safe.
I've seen this episode once. It was the sneezing version. I'm American.
i do agree, i distintly remember chickenrat being kinda tedious and boring to watch lol
That is a Simpsons reference I knew it
I think it's a simpsons reference
Right! I think so too
I love that stuff 😍
Why censor burbs? This so dumb
make a parody poster out of Memento with the similar photograph poster from 2000
Huh. I've only ever seen the burp version. Disney+ UK.
I wonder what cbeebies plays, surely the burp version too
@@aussiegirlmargie Not sure about broadcast, but just checked BBC iplayer and they have the burp version too. Very bizarrely, Chickenrat was actually the poster episodes when you click on the series.
You know the background animators of bluey? 5:20 how?
What backlash
Back in 2019 when it aired in Australia there were complaints about it
