Thank you for watching!! More Mechkou content coming soon on www.youtube.com/@ShelfofShameVT !!! I will be uploading the first video in the coming weeks, gameplay will still be streamed on the Mechkou Twitch!
I've been rewatching a lot of gundam with a friend who hasnt seen much outside the core msg/cca combo. One of the things that i kinda knew but has really stood out to me watching it nowadays is how much the AU gundams encapsulate their time period. Its easy to see gundam wing as 90s anime but it wasnt until this recent rewatch that i realized how much 00 and ibo just radiate mid 2000s and mid 2010s energy everywhere respectively.
I've been meaning to get into the Gundam shows for a while now with how much gunpla I've been getting, thinking about starting out with Stardust Memory.
0083 is UC and pretty connected to Zeta as it acts as a bridge between the OG MSG and Zeta Gundam. You can still get 90% of what's going down but there is a good 10% that you won't get unless you've seen Zeta. Just a heads up for you. It is really good so you should enjoy it from a simply visual perspective.
Best way to start old franchises Find a version you like and go form there, then when your into the whole of the franchise go back to the older stuff. Sometimes it's abit too dated for you or you don't get hooked as easily.
if you wanna start with gundam, pick one of these: -seed -00 -iron blooded orphans -witch from mercury -thunderbolt -war in the pocket look them up, look at their premise and pick the one that most fit in your taste. seed is by far the most popular AU series, 00 is far less, but still absurdly popular, same with IBO. witch is the brand new seres, and has alot of visual quality. thunderbolt and war in the pocket are very short, and they are very concise. if you want to start in the UC, pick one of those to watch. they work amazing as an introduction to the practical brutality of the UC. and while they are technically linked to the original series(thunderbolt being set in an alternative timeline), they are standalone requiring no prior knowledge.
For Universal Century. I've only got clear positive reactions from someone new with. 08th Ms Team, and Thunderbolt. So got me thinking if it would work to dart around the Original MSG. Maybe Origins first, then Requiem for Vengeance and 08th, then go to space with Thunderbolt. Hoping they get invested enough to explore the rest of the series to reach Unicorn.
I've only seen G-Witch and I only need to see G-Witch because I'm sapphic EDIT: it's available for free on YT in English dub and sub side-note Calibarn's kit fucks
49 episodes are a lot IDK, but as someone who binchwatch almost all Heisei Kamen Rider Series it's not that much, but I get it. And also G Gundam is good it's quite independent and got that classic super robot wybes, plus designs are unique.
I have heard of Gundam but never really knew what it was exactly, but it sounds great! I will check it out! And deeeefinitely subbing for your gaming channel!!!
Wing opened the door but didn't really like it at the time, 08th brought me in and msg kept me interested. G Gundam cemented me into the franchise. I haven't watched alot of other shows due to time but i have witch and ibo on my to watch list.
Some of the shows in the UC timeline are actually self contained so you don’t even have to had watched the original MSG to enjoy it. War in the Pocket is a good one (watch it during Christmas time). It’s a favorite of mine and only has six episodes. All you need to know is pretty much revealed in the show: there’s a war going on and the space colony they’re on is neutral. Boom, done. You’re ready to watch. Sure there are details that you will miss but tbh, I missed those details on my first three rewatches. 08 Mobile Suit Team Gundam is another good one. Again, all you need to know is that there’s a war going on. It’s a love story between soldiers in opposite sides. (I’d recommend pretending that Miller’s Report doesn’t exist) Gundam F91 is a movie and iirc is so far into the timeline that nothing is really related to it. It actually has sequels in comic form. G-Saviour is… we don’t talk about G-Saviour. J/k I thought it was alright but definitely not recommended. It is currently the only live action Gundam show and iirc it’s the story set farthest in the UC timeline. By the way, MSG and Zeta have movie compilations that streamline the story. The same exists for Gundam Seed and Destiny, Turn A, and OO. I wouldn’t knock these methods.
I have no Idea what I was thinking when I crossed the bridge that was AC6 and WFM besides "New Intrest." That said, I don't regret jumping down the rabbit hole, and I'd f&@$ing do it again. Side note: Don't listen to a single person if they say "Don't watch X because of Y" unless they know you personally. CoD players do this all the time and it gets people jaded towards specific games- even if the games are good on their own. Gundam is no different with it's various series, with the AUs (IBO, Wing, Witch, G, etc.) getting the worst of it.
Im sure youve heard this but once you feel comfortable with UC I would really watch the Unicorn OVAs. To me its peak gundam, if a little beaten to death by bandai in the years after.
Thank you for watching!!

Almost too much to catch up on 🫠
The only thing I know about gundam is that it is the domain of the Gundam ghost
Im sure youve heard this but once you feel comfortable with UC I would really watch the Unicorn OVAs. To me its peak gundam, if a little beaten to death by bandai in the years after.
