THE consumate guitarist of taste and unobtrusive genius. He is the very best in the world at the moment. Nobody has ears like Martin. M

Kind of The Oscar Peterson of the guitar. He can charge like a lion or land like a butterfly with a broken wing. You can usually tell when it's Martin playing. He has a style. Saw him this year at the Rochester International Jazz Festival. Small, intimate room, and he was just marvelous. Left his performance and went immediately to see his good friend Tommy Emmanuel play to a huge crowd outdoors. A magical night of guitar!

When you come back to this after listening to it 5 years ago, and its still the best around, you know you’re listening to pure genius. But with an axe of a name like Martin and Taylor, guess we should expect this 😀 Awesome gentleman he is 🌈

One of the best guitar pieces I've ever heard. This is why we endure bad notes, eye-rolling and bleeding fingers for all these years. True achievement.

Thanks phillynn, that's true and I found there's no shortcuts that I'm aware of.Everytime I've played something that people told me "oh that was great", was worked out and practiced over and over in "the woodshed",for many many hours, over many days.I asked my uncle and teacher,Howard Morgen when am
I going to feel comfortable with this process? He said you won't feel comfortable, but you'll be able to clearly see the price you're paying always has good results.Like you said ,"true achievement".

Living in Scotland as he does I'm lucky enough to have heard Martin play live many times and will never get tired of listening. For me, no other player past or present can pack so much magic into a standard as Martin. Every time I listen I marvel at something new.
Its not hurried its not over egged and the execution is flawless.
Speaking as a wood be guitar player myself.....God it makes me sick

Last night we saw Martin perform in Buffalo, NY. Absolutely fabulous. He is an incredible guitar man.
In the '80s, we saw him, I think, playing with Steffan Grappelli. We saw Steffan three times at the Tralf in Buffalo, and Martin was a member of Steffan's group for eleven years or so, including the 80's. Both fabulous musicians.

Hoagy Carmichael wrote this in 1930, and played it with his orchestra. The original was one of Bix Beiderbecke's last sessions. The first actual "hit" was by band leader, Frankie Trumbauer, who suggested that Carmichael write the tune in the first place.

I think talking about the best guitar player in the world is nonsense. There are such great artists who have so much to give us only a fool wouldl think of naming only one as worth listening. This man is a great artist and knows the guitar. Let's listen to him with awe and respect.

It's good. I saw Martin Taylor with Stephane Grappelli back around 1981, and it was obvious then that this was a guitarist to watch. He has a lovely lyrical feel for his instrument. Nice post -- thanks.
Georgia isn't a complicated song from the point of chord structure, but songs like that make can the best jazz.

MT has the calm/technical and tommy has the wild/technical! they both have virtuoso skills but in slightly different style fields i guess, but brought together in a stylish mix..... well, you saw! i have never, and will probably never see anything like that again!! still haven't got over it!

Absolutely Beautiful...first guess when I heard this was Joe Pass (a friend played it to me blind) - you want to know how to play this? - practice, practice, and then when you have some spare time practice some more...there's no magic trick, just dedication.
Martin, you're an inspiration to young players, a wonderful example of what can be achieved if you care enough about your playing.
As I said to start with, Absolutely Beautiful.

Too true. Sooo many of my students are always looking for the magic gear that will make them sound like a pro. No amount of money makes up for hard work. People need to realize that if your time is poor and you have weak musical ideas then that is what needs to be fixed. It's not the amps fault when you are out of tune and out of time.
