Hotel Air Conditioner Fan Hack

Поділитися
Вставка
  • Опубліковано 24 жов 2016
  • How to set typical (Amana) hotel air conditioners so the fan stays on all the time. The older models would do this if you put the fan on "High" or "Low", but the new ones usually do not. Why do you want the fan on? Either for the air, or for the white noise. White noise from the fan masks background noise and helps you sleep better.
    Be sure to put settings back where you found them. Don't change any configuration settings except C2 (fan).
    In the video, the unit happens to be set to "heat". This hack works exactly the same for "cool".

    Wow thanks for this. I stumbled on the menu for these units in a manual. C8 and C9 control the cooling temperature limit and the heating temperature limit. Lots of cheap hotels will set them so they can't cool below 72 or heat above 75. You can now change them back to 60 and 90 if you'd like.

    I stayed at three hotels recently. The first one was just like the one in the video, but had the fan already programmed to stay on. The next one was similar to the one in the video, but had a "Constant Fan" button which worked as advertised. The third one was controlled by a wall-mounted thermostat which had a fan button labeled LOW-AUTO-HIGH; the LOW and HIGH positions kept the fan on. So, maybe the manufacturers and hotel managers are getting the idea that customers want to be able to keep the fan on.

      Just FYI, Running the fan or not running the fan doesn't make a huge difference in electricity usage. The usage of the compressor is controlled by the thermostat. The actual heating or cooling function uses much more electricity than the fan. Seems like a lot of people misunderstand that.

  • @pimplepickerton
    @pimplepickerton 6 місяців тому +2

    I have figured out another way to have a constant fan on with that same (or at least a very similar) model.
    >Hold down the "OFF" button for a few seconds
    >The display screen will show an "L"
    >Then press the "COOL" button
    -The fan should then kick on with nothing displayed on the screen and with nothing lit up.
    - It will run like that until you press the "OFF"(power)button..
    - I am not sure what this mode is called or what is the purpose of it, but it seems to do the trick and is a little more straightforward than the method shown in the video, since it only takes pressing 2 buttons to do, and it doesn't require one to go back through the menu and deactivate it when they're done. My method turns off (and the AC is back to normal) once someone presses the "OFF" (power) button.
    -Just passing on some helpful information for whoever may want it.

    • @ajmexico
      @ajmexico  6 місяців тому +1

      Great find! I'll have to try that. So, to be clear, do you end up with the fan AND the compressor running for cooling?

    • @pimplepickerton
      @pimplepickerton 6 місяців тому

      @@ajmexico To be honest, I am not sure if it is just the fan that stays on or both the compressor and the fan. I believe it was both, but I am no longer there so I can't double check now. Sorry, I wish I had more info. Have a good day though.
