    I'm picking up a 2005 KDX 220 this Sunday. It's got an FMF pipe already. It's pretty mint for 2k, Going to be adding some more parts to get it trail ready(skid plate, etc) come summer time.

      Well, you'll need to change everything on the bike cause kawasaki designed the KDX bike for motocross racing in the endurance style.
      You've bought the wrong bike for trail riding.

    I searched for 4 years for a KDX220R and found a 97 model. I have owned RM's, YZ's, and DR.s etc and this on is a dream for trail riding but not a motocross bike.

      No, It's not the regular motocross bike It's the custom designed endurance motocross racing bike.
      You ride it in a different way and its driving totally different to the regular motocross bike.
      The KDX was missold or misrepresented as a trail bike.
      Trail bikes Don't Require the power stroke to be divided into 2 small power strokes.

    Iv got a 02 I’m almost done with just need to send the cylinder out for a plating. Iv got other bikes but love a kdx200, always wanted one. For what I’m doing its more then enough .

    It’d say a modified KDX -220 is an unbeatable trail bike for less than one third the show room cost ,of any European serious 125-200cc 2015-24 cross country /woods 2stroke ! & I want one ! 👍

    Stock pipe is already a double-walled tank and can take a mild beating. With a guard over that, you must really be planning some rough rides. The stock silencer was worth keeping. It is low maintenance, doesn't spooge on your fender, is quieter and works better with the stock pipe. You can sell the overpriced FMF silencer for good money. Stock silencer with the FMF woods pipe or desert also works very well. Can't find a Pro Circuit pipe for the KDXs anymore, although it's my favorite for acceleration and a fatter sound. Since looks matter in your garage, keep the FMF silencer and get an FMF pipe to look right and you'll lose some serious weight. Add a Hyde guard for the FMF and you're stylin'!

      Yep, stock bike is actually a professionally designed motocross racing bike tuned for endurance motocross racing.
      It's not related to trail riding.
      It's got nothing to do with trail riding.
      This lie has been going on for almost 50 years.
      It's time you take a look at the KDX and realize its not designed for trail riding.
      It's terrible for trail riding.
      This bike doesn't have linear gearing.
      You don't want NON linear gearing for trail riding.
      You don't want this CUSTOM set of NON linear gears designed for endurance motocross racing.

    I agree with you! Great trail bike. Surprisingly nice low end power for a 2 smoke. Check out my Barn Find KDX 200 I'm working on now! 👍

      It's not low end power for a 2 stroke, either.
      The only trail It's designed for is a motocross racing track.
      You don't want this custom designed motocross racing bike.
      You want an agricultural trail riding bike instead.
      You don't want NON linear gearing for trail riding.
      You most definitely don't want this custom designed set of NON linear gearing for trail riding.
      You don't want this custom designed suspension for motocross endurance racing on your trail bike.

      1 explosion was divided into 2 small explosions.
      The reed valve is a valve.
      You don't want anything to do with motocross racing bikes tuned for endurance motocross.

      I most likely will, I just hate re-jetting. I don't have time to constantly swap out jets. Not to mention the KDX carb is a pain to get to.

    There's nothing wrong with the suspension.
    It's professionally tuned for endurance motocross racing.
    You're obviously misusing the bike.
    Don't buy the wrong bike and then complain about it.
    The suspension is designed to reduce the forces on the rider after 4 hours of racing on motocross tracks.
    Educated riders understand this.
    The rider gets off the bike in fantastic shape after the ride.
    Every aspect of the motocross bike has been changed to suit this other form of driving.
    Less wasted energy, less sideways wondering, more straight line performance etc.
    You obviously don't know anything about tuning bikes.
    The professionals tuned the KDX as a racing motocross bike for endurance style driving.

    Thanks for posting but your misuse of the motocross racing bike tuned for endurance motocross racing is WRONG and kawasaki agrees with me and they've stopped you from getting a new one to continue to misuse these bikes.
    You must correct your knowledge and stop trying to call this bike a trail riding bike.
    The name doesn't say KTX.
    It's KX with a long distance part to the name. So its a long distance motocross racing bike.
    You cannot detune it for trail riding.
    Trail riding doesn't require 2 small explosions per engine cycle.
    This maximum mini explosions engine will prevent you from going up some hills.
    This engine will rev quite highly but It's only very small.
    The sound of the exhaust is fooling you into thinking its a bigger engine.
    Its 2 tiny explosions that make-up 1 bigger explosion.
    The engine designer divided the 1 explosion into 2 smaller explosions so you can get better grip on the loose dirt track.
    The engine power gently grabs the dirt surface.
    It's designed to not wheelspin.
    They've halved the power stroke and increased the number of power strokes.
    You don't want delicate power delivery to the trail.
    You WANT course power delivery with linear gearing.
    The KDX bike has fine delicate power delivery with NON linear gearing. Etc. Etc.
    You don't want a KDX bike.
    Its power delivery is WRONG for trail riding and its NON linear gearing is also Wrong for trail riding.
