I doubt a few hundred guards, security systems, and and some metal bars will stop de Killer. I mean, dude snuck past INTERNATIONAL SECURITY *_WITH AN INJURED ARM._* (Said arm was injured by the guard he fought the last time he tried, which de Killer straight-up acknowledged as an incredible feat.) That alone makes him a certified badass.

The only time we know of when de Killer was actually “stopped” was not because he couldn’t get to the target per se, but rather because he willingly let the target go at the request of a fellow assassin. Having said that, whether or not prison security would be enough to stop de Killer is unclear, but highly unlikely by all accounts.
Considering how de Killer states in this case that he would go to the ends of the Earth, even if it took an eternity, to see Engarde dead, plus the fact that we see him later not even mentioning Engarde, AND given his skill with breaking into secure areas as an incredibly capable assassin, he definitely killed Engarde when he was in prison, and then went back to his normal life afterward.
Three years later after this playthrough has been posted, i still come back to enjoy it.
From my point of view, this is one of the best cases of the Ace Attorney's series : being coerced into having to defend a client that is truly guilty of a heinous crime through a life and death situation, no less, all while finding a way to make the truth comes to light. A truly paradoxal situation, filled with suspense and intrigue. But the absolute cherry on the cake is that, in order to do so, the player, through the character of Pheonix Wright, is actually put in a situation where he *has* to accuse an innocent of the crime in order for the case to progress - which is both extraordinarily disturbing and unsettling but yet absolutely brillant in it's execution, both in terms of scenario, gameplay and thematics : Wright defend Engarde (doing what a lawyer does) by accusing an innocent of a crime she hasn't committed (temporarily forsaking his own morality), so as to gain time to save the life of a close friend (Maya) while at the same time looking forward convicting his own client as guilty of the crime he did commit and was accused of (forsaking his job as a lawyer to uphold what is morally right.)
For this particular occasion i honestly congratulate Capcom. It was a job really well done.
I agree. Such a long trial with so many incredible twists and turns and morally complex scenarios. Amazing stuff. I was not expecting it to be this good when the case first started! Probably my favorite trial so far (I've only beaten the first two games).

@Starscream91 not denying your view on this case or anything but i think we analyze the case a wee bit too far since this game supposed to be the nutshell version of japanese old laws of "guilty until proven innocent" and the prosecutors have more power than the defense
@Starscream91 I think why you view the ending as disgusting is because you view it from the perspective of real life law. If thats the case, you make valid points.
However, the reason why many really like the ending is because they view it not as a representation of law, but a story. We see Phoenix able to work his way around the situation, saving Maya and convicting Engarde, finally ending the torment that the case has brought him through by tearing his moral compass apart, choosing between a clearly innocent person and his close friend. Even if the "justice" here is very juvenile and idealized, people enjoyed this case for how it flipped the status quo on its head and threw it out of the window, as well as the constant suspense of the case, and the portrayal of Wright, a character who views things very black and white, in a morally grey area. What you are seeing are people's opinion on viewing it as a video game, and I don't think they go too deep on their reasonings too - its as simple as "I liked it for doing xxx". Its not a representation of law, as how Ace Attorney has clearly demostrated since case 1-1.
TL:DR: Your perspective isn't wrong, but its definitely is very unorthodox given the context, and I just wanted to provide the viewpoint of this case as a game, not as a representation of law, and show why people like it so.
@Starscream91 Maybe it would sound stupid. But Phoenix didn't actually threat Engarde, only Matt put himself in that situation.
Those extra scars Matt gives himself is probably what most players wanted to do to him when he betrayed them
They should have made a mini game on the touch screen where you can slice scars onto his face with the stylus

I know Edgeworth doesn’t care about winning anymore, but I still felt he deserved it after everything he did to help Wright and company throughout this whole mess, as did both Gumshoe and Franziska for their roles as well (especially in getting the last crucial piece of evidence to the courtroom). That and Maya specifically wanted Wright to get Engarde a guilty verdict from the get-go, even though it was her life on the line. All in all, the Not Guilty plea is much more cathartic, but the Guilty plea was the more natural choice for me in the end.

I think Matt had an awesome breakdown.
Second most satisfying part of the entire series, just behind dealing with Alba.
Nah, watching Dahlia suffer in defeat in the end brought me more joy than those two combined.
That was good, but after having to do about 5 cross-examinations with Alba, it was just like "OH MY GOD WE FINALLY GOT HIM HAHAHA YES."
And no feeling will ever top that.

You know for a cold blooded no nonsense assassin for hire … can’t help but feel bad for Shelly. It felt like he was just very hurt, man prioritizes his trust with the client above everything else and then finds out that trust was doubted from the get go and was gonna be betrayed. The way he asks why his client did this just like … feels like a married person asking why their spouse cheated or something.

It's hard for me to decide if this case, The final case in Trials and Tribulations, or the final case in ace attorney five are my favorites. The tension in this one is SO awesome, and the outcome is even better!
Ironically, the ending is guilty, which is what happens if you lose all your objection chances
I'd say T&T because it not only was a nice ending for that game but for the entire series as a whole. This case is a very close second in my opinion, and Turnabout for Tomorrow was great as well.

This cass really was amazing!!! It was so intense like trying to cross a tightrope because rather that trying to push everything to one side, you had to simply stall until the time was right

The trial segments are my favorite parts. Investigative parts are, by contrast, just not quite as enjoyable to me.

I've never played the games but seeing this in the anime was such an emotional roller coaster, I'm jealous of whoever got to experience the games before the anime.

Honestly I can imagine even going with Guilty would have Engarde dying by de Killer’s hands. De Killer would probably find a way to slip in and either deliver the capital punishment himself or do it before his scheduled execution.

as an really old ace attorney fan i find it excusable for the first game cause they were starting out but for DD maybe they make it easy so newer fans could play and understand it ? BUT SOJ is weird (unlimited penalty for other choices yet not for the last evidence presenting?)
@@michwan6732 Ace Attorney, at it's core, is a visual novel. It's not meant to be hard or easy. It is simply a narrative that allows the "player" to insert their own "intellect" into the game.
You two are overthinking the merit of having the final presented evidence be an unlimited penalty. It doesn't make the game harder; it is meant to make the game more dramatic.

am i the only one who realizes that it could have saved Wright alot of trouble if he told shelly about the video tapes before the second day trial in the first place? he was already aware of its contents before the trial and shelly was already aware of the tape's existence

I wish there were 4 different endings: the bad one, and 3 good ones. The best being showing DeKiller the tape of course, but also somehow being able to do only one of the two things Mia said we could do to truly win the case, and maybe evn have different breakdowns for Engarde
