They need to put a love button on here for this one Garrett lol. You know I started with ball pythons and from the moment I held that first pair of dwarf retics that you so graciously gave me the opportunity to own, I've been HOOKED. I just want more and more.
Super dwarf retic is my dream snake after i witnessed a motley golden child. At first I was sad because I in no way think I could handle a snake that can go over 10 or 12 feet but then my friend and I remembered you from our first expo and you give me so much hope! I can't wait to purchase from you some day
I haven't even seen any super dwarfs in person, but am in love with them just from watching your videos. I'm intimidated by the mainland size, but do agree that they are they prettiest snake. Super dwarfs seem like the dream animal, both to own and to breed.
I'm looking to get back into the hobby after 10 years away, and I'm so glad I found your channel. Thank you very much for taking the time to put out such quality content, and the willingness to help others get into dwarf retics. We have been trying to decide where to start again, and this video was very informative. Happy Thanksgiving, and God bless.
i own different species of snakes. Like balls, boas, berms, corn snakes, and someone left a retic on my door step with a RI and basically skin and bones. After some TLC I fell in love with it. Its smart sometimes I think it knownwho I am. Its a legless puppy. Great video I agree with you.
What a flashback. I remember having a full color pamphlet in the early 90's from Pete Kahl Reptiles that I sent away for. I was drooling over the Anery boas he had. I could never find one to buy though.
Thanks for the info on the super drawfs! I never knew you could get them in a 6’ version!! Which very much appeals to me and I will now look into getting one! I love your videos but I did not appreciate your opinion of ball pythons as I love my BP! He’s friendly and easy for me to handle. Thanks for the info on the Super Drawfs the only reason I don’t have a Retic is I’m afraid I won’t be able to handle it by myself.
Beautiful video and I agree with you ten million percent on this topic. Reticulated Pythons are the kings and queens of snakes. Pure SD Reticulated Pythons could be the very best pet snake on the market.
You might be right. I've been boa obsessed for 10 years and I was thinking through the first few points that boas fit the same criteria, and then you brought them up. They are incredible snakes and I don't understand why the market is so much more difficult than the python game. Maybe because they take a long time to mature and they're a little harder to breed? I'll always keep a few, but I've been thinking about dwarf retics (and balls) more and more. Gotta do it for the love though, for sure. There are a lot of incredible species out there.
They actually mature faster than Superdwarves do, and I would say are easier to breed than SD's as well. I think that's just a mature market that has been around forever. Morphs are only exciting if they are different looking than what you are used to. Once you get used to them, they aren't as appealing anymore. If I were to do boas, I would focus on line bred locality stuff, like Surinams, and some of the interesting northern localities as well.
Reach Out Reptiles Standard for boas is now 4-5 yrs of age to breed (females) - powerfeeding had some breeding at 3 but this is considered unhealthy. At what age are superdwarf retics ready, typically? I do love the Suris and hope to have a pair someday, but for now my focus is on the northern dwarf morphs (leopard, type 2 anery, etc).
great stuff brother! love the passion you show as always! I think you are correct with your thought process but I just have a passion for ball pythons still, dont get me wrong I have two mainland relics and love them as a species but not sure I would work with them solely. Especially since my female Is so tub defensive, of my own fault of course for not handling her enough were working on that. Stay Blessed Brother.
Kalatoas, Karompas, and Madus are the smallest, followed by Kayuadi. But pure locality is one thing- once you start crossing them into morphs, the locality is only as good as the efforts of the breeder to selectively breed for small size specifically.

I know all about that waiting list, being on it and all. But the 2 I got already were worth the wait. I have ball pythons Burmese pythons and boas but I do think if I had to choose one snake it would be my retics. I have 4, with more coming in the future (hurry up Garrett) but I love love them. Big or small retics are awesome. SD just makes it so much easier to handle, house and clean. Cant go wrong with a super dwarf. Love ya bro keep it up.
I've been watching your videos during deployment trying to fully understand the whole SD thing and now I finally understand it's locality and genetic based. Do you have a website or something where we can see what's available and for more information?
The website in the description is mine, but is in the process of updating. I will have downloadable information in depth soon. For availability, email me, or pm on Facebook!
I'm going to have to look into them love retics think it's so awesome to be able to get one that will stay manageable... Where would I look to find some for sale?
I love reticulated pythons, but have heard of a couple 100% super dwarf getting a lot larger than anticipated , and Garret you are far from ugly and you know it😊👍 thank you ever so much for sharing and best wishes always ..
lol, well thank you! Anticipation and reliable breeder information don't always come easy or realistically, and 100% SD's a re often not even close to that. What you won't get is a big freak SD off of good, proven, well known reliable bloodlines...
@@ReachOutReptiles too true sad people don't take as much pride in their breeding programs as you do. If they did they would not have to lie to move their snakes, I wonder if they think hey I might be selling a snake the person buying will not want or be able to handle and puts his or her animals at risk..
I know nothing of super dwarfs and very little of retics in general other than they are big snakes. They like all snakes i find amazing looking animals. I have ball pythons and carpets. I've been slowly building an interest in Retics. I saw one for a split sec in a pet store. It was a super dwarf. If i was to get one, i would like one in that 6-8ft range lol no larger. I like their slender look. Very cool snakes. What would a super dwarf go for in price?? I know morphs would cost more but if lets just say a basic super dwarf?? Where could i sign up for a waiting list?
They aren't cheap. Pure superdwarfs in the size range you are talking about go for around 1000 these days, but lower percentage SD stuff can be had for cheaper if u aren't afraid of a 10 foot snake. Some carpet pythons get to be around the same size as the smaller retics, and because of the slender build they aren't very hard to work with, they just like to move around alot and go for the ceiling fans haha they're awesome tho.
@@josevargas8034 my dwarf/sd is around 9 feet but I don't know exactly weight, but he's super manageable. Not like dealing with a 10 foot boa. You should be fine if u get a male 50% sd
They range in size from the size of a large rat snake on up. Prices are all over as well. 50% SD normal males can be as low as $350- but I would still be sure to get them from a good breeder, who will shoot you straight on size ranges.
I miss having a retic. I would get another one when I finally buy a house. My retic creeps me out sometimes cause I see her eyes following me whenever I walk in the room letting Me know she is aware of me.
LOL... took about 45 minutes to get it off, and each time I did, it would just reattach. If a Retic does this, they soon realize you are not the food they were after. With the Papuan- I'm convince it thought it could take me if it just tried long enough. Had to give it an A+ for effort....
Good points on that brother what's your opinion with were true redtail boas will go I'm not necessarily in the market to breed I just love them along with all reptiles wish I could have them all one day hope to get a reptirium going but working on paying off my property first. But I love all the knowledge you put out there brother keep going strong
True retails offer classic styling on pure locality animals. That is one of the all time best big snakes projects, IMO- but only if you don't short cut it. If you were to set a price tag of $3500-$5K per animal, and then collect about 5-10 animals that were absolutely the best representatives of their kind, and line breed for specific traits, then I think you would become world renown with the help of a great photographer in 10-15 years. That would be the dream.

I think so, too. Plus they are clever! My female 62% SD will come out of her hide when I come into the room and watch me at her cage door until I come and let here out. This is since I have got the lock for her cage as before that she had learned how to open it. I have never had a snake so interactive. Most of them don't really care what you are doing!
Hey! I’m 15, I have ALOT of reptiles, and I care for them. I have everything from garters to a rainbow boa, I do animal education! But I have been looking for a ‘larger’ type of Python because I love larger snakes, the biggest I have is a 7 foot female boa constrictor “izzy”...I was wondering if a super dwarf or just a dwarf would be better, I work everything from 1st birthdays to weddings😂 don’t get me wrong, I know just enough as a 40 year old animal educators who’s been working for 10 or more years, because I’ve been filling my head with knowledge about herpetology since I could read (so 11 years) I have been raised with reptiles my whole life, please share your opinion. (Ps. I have a GREAT local breeder who has both super dwarfs and dwarf available)
There is always a risk though, when buying a super dwarf, that the person you're buying it from may have lied to you about its bloodline, and you later end up with a huge snake. Or is there any way to tell from the start, how big it will get?
Yeah theres only one person to buy super dwarfs from imo... definitwly that weird guy from reach out reptiles... think thats the name of the place... 😂
What I deteste is in how many places these beautiful animals are banned without special permits that you have to jump through a million hoops in order to get the permit.
*drive-by comment* Carpet-Pythons-Rule *runs* Honestly though, I only have three snakes, more of a gecko breeder, but my ultimate favorite of the three is my 75 percent Sonoran leopard boa. 1. Leopard boas of a high percentage Sonora are fairly rare. 2. They stay a lot smaller than most BCI boas 3. they're variable even in that one morph 4. they're freaking GORGEOUS. (But also they're not pythons so they don't qualify for the Best Python Award. ;) ) But if you don't have carpets, I think a lot of the things you like about super dwarfs you would like about carpets. They're active, beautiful, have locales, variable combinations etc.
I agree- Carpets are amazing, and these are fairly comparable in many ways. I do appreciate the additional activity, hardiness and interactiveness that a Retic has over capers though! And the Dwarf boa crosses are pretty cool as well (but I can't stand breeding live bearers, personally).
Sadly very true about boas😞 never owned retics or burms (will one day!) so I can’t join that argument but my boas are my favorite but the market just isn’t where the money is unless your working with top of the line animals creating never seen combos or something along those lines...
I love all snakes. But I like my boas more than pythons. Preference really, I have a mainland retic, ball python, 3 boas, a burm, a gray rat and a few lizards. Lol
I agree with all your points, but I have one reason why super dwarf Reticulated Pythons aren't the best: Snakes over 5 feet long are illegal where I live and I can't have one.
FIGHT ME. Just kidding. This video was a playful response to a war of opinions that were being stated as facts on social media- so I figured I would offer my own. I believe all these reasons, but they are obviously not universally true, and was meant to be taken humorously.
The best Python is a Green Tree Python, hands down. Retics, Burms, Rocks, or any other giant and sub giant snakes are overdone and usually end up dying or being abandoned once they are a few years old.
You know I really love the information you put out on your videos dude, but I'm going to have to disagree with your opinion on this. All the positives you name about super dwarfs are negated by the fact that in some states retics are illegal to keep. If I lived in a state that allowed retics I would have at least one mainland and who knows how many super dwarfs. But the negative image mainstream media puts on retics sways the lawmakers and keeps me from even having a super dwarf that would be smaller than my biggest bp. Just because it's a retic. So with what I'm legally allowed to keep I would argue that boas and ball pythons are the best when taking into consideration the silly laws that my state and far too many others have put in to place. I hope one day those laws will be changed.
YOU DIDN'T TALK ABOUT YELLOW ANNIES. They are the SD/dwarf of anacondas in my opinion. Want an anaconda but not the size of a green? Get a yellow. They're prettier too.
Why not? Don't have the patience? 😋 Really though, why is that? I haven't bred snakes yet, but I've always wanted to breed ATBs. And Dumeril's boas. Which are viviparous/oviviparous.
I agree super dwarfs are great and maybe the best snake in the world, but the most beautiful snake award definitely goes to a southern white lipped python.
I want to purchase a baby super dwarf reticulated python from you soon in the near future. I am saving up the money for an enclosure and then I'll save up the money for my super dwarf reticulated python that I want to purchase from reach out Reptiles.
@@ReachOutReptiles To stick with the analogy, it's more like saying that the cool thing about cannons is how big they are, so if you want something the size of a pistol then you should probably get a pistol, not a miniature cannon. Actually I think it's pretty cool that dwarf retics exist and it'll be great to see all the morphs become available in more easily manageable sizes, I just couldn't help myself.

I really want a dwarve retic but its soo hard over here in england to find a reliable breeder who will sell me one that wont end up being a mainland!!
I know of someone who bought a "super dwarf" that grew to 14 feet 😂
So do I. But they didn't buy it from me, did they? Next time, tell them to buy a Super Dwarf, and not a "super dwarf."
*drive-by comment* Carpet-Pythons-Rule *runs*
Honestly though, I only have three snakes, more of a gecko breeder, but my ultimate favorite of the three is my 75 percent Sonoran leopard boa.
I don't mind selling a few of my snakes to get a retic that stays small. But there seems to be no one who breeds them here let alone have them.
Your snakes are beautiful. Still love my carpets, but waiting on a text or call back from you guys that you promised a week or so ago :/
Sadly very true about boas😞 never owned retics or burms (will one day!) so I can’t join that argument but my boas are my favorite but the market just isn’t where the money is unless your working with top of the line animals creating never seen combos or something along those lines...
There is still a big market for pretty Albinos, etc. If you can keep them efficiently, I'm sure you could turn a profit on them.
I gave the 100th thumbs up! Do I get a free super dwarf? lol. Nothing like a little fb drama. Thanks for video Garrett!
LOL, had to chime in, was too much fun not to.
You should also do a 5 reasons why they are not the best python. You did the pros now do the cons.
Superdwarfs are cool but I'm on team #carpetpythons 😉
Can't blame you there. They are some sweet snakes!
Totally agree. I'm such a fanboy.
Haha, same here...
I want a pet super dwarf retic!
I love all snakes. But I like my boas more than pythons. Preference really, I have a mainland retic, ball python, 3 boas, a burm, a gray rat and a few lizards. Lol
Matt Hendricks what are gray rat snake like as a pet? Always wanted one after seeing it in the wild lol
How big would a Dwarf 50% Selayar Reticulated Python get?
Besides...real herpers know that the Southern White Lips are where its at!!!! Whut whuuuuut!!! 😜
Yup, I'll start stocking up on them once you can get me an f3 or better CBB... ;)
I agree with all your points, but I have one reason why super dwarf Reticulated Pythons aren't the best: Snakes over 5 feet long are illegal where I live and I can't have one.
5 opinions why they’re the best for you, is what you mean
✌🏼🐍
Peace! Thanks for tuning in!
Apodora over kalaotoa any day of the week🤗
I mean in a cage match? Yeah probably! Lol. As pets? I’m going Kalatoa….
You don't need that negativity in your life. I say pack up and move, or start a revolution!
YOU DIDN'T TALK ABOUT YELLOW ANNIES. They are the SD/dwarf of anacondas in my opinion. Want an anaconda but not the size of a green? Get a yellow. They're prettier too.
Yeah, they are cool, but I don't like breeding live bearers. ;)
Yes they are using them but to say there arent localities isnt true.
Green anacondas are boas not pythons
I want a baby super dwarf reticulated python as a pet next year. I am saving money.
I want to purchase a baby super dwarf reticulated python from you soon in the near future. I am saving up the money for an enclosure and then I'll save up the money for my super dwarf reticulated python that I want to purchase from reach out Reptiles.
You need a snake in your video
Well the 3 guys who keep Papuans just unsubed haha.
LOL. Beauty is only skin deep... I did say I can relate to those poor, poor ugly snakes. That makes it better, right?
Super Dwarf Retics are wonderful pets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Reticulated pythons are the Labrador retrievers of pet snakes! FACTS!
And im.... Anyways 😂🤣😂
You lost me at anaconda aren’t the best pet lol wink wink look at our display picture
Mainland males are the best! Lol
Haha. Broad statement. I have known a few at opposite ends of the spectrum...
Nah, dwarf retics are fake retics. 😛
Kinda like saying pistols aren't weapons because they aren't cannons, don't ya think? ;)
@@ReachOutReptiles
To stick with the analogy, it's more like saying that the cool thing about cannons is how big they are, so if you want something the size of a pistol then you should probably get a pistol, not a miniature cannon.
Actually I think it's pretty cool that dwarf retics exist and it'll be great to see all the morphs become available in more easily manageable sizes, I just couldn't help myself.
Dwarf retics 🙄 - it's like when you buy a Honda thinking you're classed with owning a Harley.
