On British roads these days there's the Big 7 when it comes to the makes of trucks or lorries as we usually call them. There are 2 makes from Germany: Mercedes Benz Trucks and MAN Trucks. There are 2 makes from Sweden: Volvo Trucks and Scania Trucks The final 3 are: DAF Trucks (UK/Netherlands) Renault Trucks (France) IVECO trucks.
Volvo Group may be the second largest in numbers of production. But that's because their higher quality causes the price to increase and as a result for more average spenders the Daimler group seems a better choice. What Daimler lacks in reliability and safety however, Volvo has as a major selling point hands down. Oh and, don't get me started on safety.
We have DAF, Volvo and Daimler in our company. Quite frankly, they all have their strong and weak points. None of them is more reliable anymore like in the old days. Mercs have issues with the cooling system, Volvo's electrical system is a mess and DAF can't get it's sensors working without throwing daily error codes. Volvo has the strongest engine and transmission combination, Mercedes the best steering and front axle and DAF the best riding comfort. From a driver's perspective, the DAF is probably the best in the field of comfort, space and usability. Volvo's cabin is a tiny birdhouse with minimal storage and a questionable (at best) driver's "interface". Who on earth designed a truck for midgets that has an assortment of "gloveboxes" and a menu-driven panel at the bunk for controlling the lights, windows etc...! Oh...and their "we don't offer a retarder because you won't need one since our engine brake is sooooo strong....so strong my....
I got a 1991 Volvo Day cab, brand new. Started it the first day, hooked to my trailer (it was in early January in Ontario Canada) headed out on the and less then 10 miles from our yard, the truck died. reason, they put a sensor that can freeze in front of the radiator. TRhey moved to behind the Radiator, and that truck ran fine until the day in late October, when I no longer could drive a truck due to memory issues
They should have just kept the name as "Volkswagen Truck & Bus" would have saved the couple million euros they paid some corporate marketing consultant to come up with yet another weird nonsense word brand name.

If you didnt have to check the frame bolts on IVECO on the regular and the ADBLUE system they use would actually survive more than a month without something breaking i would have nothing bad to say about them,,,, But having to take the truck i worked on every few weeks to be fixed by dealer on a car that was only 2 years old at the time The only good thing i have about them is that i dont have to work on them anymore.

We had three Mercedes, and currently five Volvo FH in our fleet, and 16 Scania. The Mercedes trucks were sold way ahead of schedule because they kept breaking down all the time, the Volvos are on their way out also but for being way less fuel efficient than Scania. In some places, you will see the very old Mercedes truck "shoehead" cabin still roaming around the road until this day along with other very old trucks due to reliability and of course, lack of regulation or law that prohibits such very old commercial vehicle from operating on the road.
The best in the market is Deimler although truck haters call their products junk Deimler makes the best. The Cascadia XL series and the Western Star X series are the best trucks on the market they are fuel efficient and their Detroit D16 engines meet all requirements. The reason Deimler gets a bad rap is their contract with Swift Knight every truck that gets sent to Pheonix gets wrecked earning them the bad names Freight Shakers for Freightliner and Ware Smashers for Western Star most of these names come from people who drive Petes and Kenworths with the Cummins engines. Because of this CEPA has banned trucks with Cummins engines in California you must have the Paccar MX13 or the Cat 18 engine to be allowed in. Cummins engines are horrible they emit bad emissions, and they have EGR problems which is why owners and dealers are pulling them out and replacing them with MX13s and Cats.

Between these deflectors there ain't much, because that space is needed when the trailer runs to curves. These deflectors can also be opened to give the drivers space to work on the climate unit or on the airlines. Can also come in handy for Ro ro work, when the roof of trailer comes to close to the deflectors.

In Indonesia, European products are dominated by SWEDEN: SCANIA, VOLVO, the rest are dominated by Japan, such as HINO FUSO etc. IVECO & MAN, RENAULT Are Available But Rarely Even lost to Mercedes, even though I want to see various other brands such as Daimler, MACK, KENWORTH etc
If it wasn't for the fact that Daimler merged with Chrysler many years ago they wouldn't be the world's largest truck maker. It's a long story but most of this happened when the split took place Chrysler had to give up Freightliner and Thomas school buses. Most of the larger freight companies buy the Freightliners because they buy them in bulk and they are cheaply made.
You forgot to mention "poorly designed." Seriously... I went from a 2015 Prostar to a 2017 Cascadia p4 and it felt like I went back in truck design. Who puts a slot beside a shelf that is just big enough to drop a dvd case in without any good way to get it out.

Frightliner and western star is 100% daimler (mercedes benz/D🇩🇪). Navi star is 100% traton (Volkswagen/D 🇩🇪). Mack is 100% renault /F. 🇫🇷

Other way around! Paccar was always American, and purchased DAF in the 90s.

China produces the most trucks in the world. Foton, Dongfeng. FAW, CNHTC, JAC, Greatwall, GAC, Volvo, etc...

In Indonesia, European products are dominated by SWEDEN: SCANIA, VOLVO, the rest are dominated by Japan, such as HINO FUSO etc. IVECO & MAN, RENAULT Are Available But Rarely Even lost to Mercedes, even though I want to see various other brands such as Daimler, MACK, KENWORTH etc
If it wasn't for the fact that Daimler merged with Chrysler many years ago they wouldn't be the world's largest truck maker. It's a long story but most of this happened when the split took place Chrysler had to give up Freightliner and Thomas school buses. Most of the larger freight companies buy the Freightliners because they buy them in bulk and they are cheaply made.

You forgot to mention "poorly designed." Seriously... I went from a 2015 Prostar to a 2017 Cascadia p4 and it felt like I went back in truck design. Who puts a slot beside a shelf that is just big enough to drop a dvd case in without any good way to get it out.
interesting side note: Mercedes-Benz is the brand which the largest lineup of vehicles on the market in general, covering private cars, vans, trucks and buses

Something that was not mentioned about Daf; they did a collaboration with UK company Leyland (it then became Leyland Daf), and in a short space of time, trucks were badged as Daf.
DAF is PACCAR.
