Only tribo powders can be used? Or like on all other tribostatic guns almost all powder can be applied?
Same powder can be used just like on any other tribostatic gun.
Hello there, I am considering to purchase one of these guns and have couple of questions. Does it have any limitations on some sorts of powder (epoxy, poliester, Hybrid, uretane, TGIC, Acrylic, Wrincle, Metallic, Enamel powders). Found a local supplier that has Akzo Nobel Powders and want to find out if it would work with any type of powder. And the second question I have is - what would happen if I do not connect the gun to ground? Will the powder simply not stick to the item or will there be some other side effects. I have seen some guns that do not have ground - only wire to the item trying to coat. Do this one work as well? Thanks in advance!
This is a tribo type powder coating gun so you need powder that is suitable for this type of a powder coating gun (another type is corona). You should ask powder retailer to look at the powder datasheet under a line "application equipment". If there is a word "tribo" or "tribostatic" then powder is going to work.
Powder compatibility depends on the continent you are in. In Europe tribo powder coating guns are popular in industry so almost all powder sold is formulated to work with both tribo and corona type powder coating guns. In USA tribo powder coating guns are not as popular so suitable powder is not easily available there but there are a few retailers that offer a wide variety of colors in USA.
NordicPulver powders are polyester and hybrid (epoxy-polyester mix) type and are available in wrinkle and metallic finishes. However thse descriptive properties do not describe if powder is tribo compatible or not.
Ground is there for two main reason:
1. To remove electrostatic charge from the charging elements inside a nozzle. Without this powder charging can be interupted and inefficient.
2. Safety. Ungrounded gun can befome electrostatically charged. This can result in sparking and even other worse consequences.
Obviously, not properly grounded gun does not function as well.

It is connected to an earth ground connection on a wall socket. Live and neutral connections are not used.
Corona type powder coating guns contain a high voltage power supply and our gun is tribo type. Tribo type guns charge powder by friction as it flows along a barrel of a gun and does not contain a high voltage power supply. Tribo guns have many benefits such as that they easily apply multiple layers of powder and coat complicated geometries better than corona guns.

Yes. We had no problem doing that and results are great.
However sometimes we get a pinhole (outgassing) defect here and there if we are powder coating thin sheet zinc plated steel sheet that is 0.5 mm thick. Some types of galvanizing are less suitable for powder coating.
Why are you allways shaking the gun ? It is bad for your hand. Can't you coat without shaking ? Or would you have problems with the powder ?
There is no need to shake this new gun as powder is both suction and gravity fed. Shaking is just a bad habbit that comes from using an old style NordicPulver powder coating gun that had powder fed by suction only.
I'm sorry, but I had a similar gun. Gravity can't solve this problem. You have to shake allways the gun.
It might be similar looking from the outside but it is the inside which matters in powder delivery.
It is a gravity, suction and shape of the powder container and powder inlet all combined that allow for uninterupted powder flow. Narrow neck bottle is harder to clean than a jar but allows for a continous powder supply and one can purchase multiple of these empty bottles and keep powder in them rarely cleaning one.
Finding a solution to powder flow problems was the main objective while designing this gun and I think it was a success.
Just got one of these guns and am really pleased with it.

Short answer is yes!
Long answer is that this gun uses an earth ground connection only (live and neutral connections are not used) in your electricity supply socket so it does not matter if electrical power is 120V or 220V or 230V.
