Feel free to stop watching if this is not the kind of criticism you are looking for. I will not compromise my character or my opinions to please a larger group of people. I wear my bias on my sleeve, a bias that every gamer possesses in some form and frankly, people can decide whether or not that is ok for their consumption. When I start hiding my bias, then you should start worrying.
RIP. Its 2022 and your still missed. (I wish UA-cam would stop making me change my memorial comment every 20-ish videos. when did they implement this new annoyance?)
Most fun I am having lately with TB is him doing the Dota2 content. I don't really play the game, but I was quite into the first Dota years ago. (got tired of it) TB if you read this, I know you don't take request I'm just saying it's good fun to remember all the old heroes with you.
Gotta like TB's honesty and attempt to look at the positives, while still being critical. Also his work to cover all the bases as he talks about a subject. I was certainly curious about this game since I like puzzle quest, thanks to this video I now know I can use it as a time waster on the go with my phone instead; so a plus.
"Every time you match a tile you essentially have a chance of the whole thing cascading into a multiple storm of tiley justice" I really hope Jen used those exact words TB ;)
mark is commonly used in recording to mark the start of a session, that way when they edit the video they know when to set the start at and to delete the stuff before it (mike tests, clearing throat, previous attempts where something went wrong, etc.)
@MidnightSpecial777 he most likely wont, "WTF is?" is a first impressions of NEW games being released. Baldurs Gate is a pretty old game, but if you like dungeon based rpgs then its definately worth 20 bucks. Its extremely well put together
When TotalBiscuit said "real game" he meant 'hardcore' games, such as our Starcraft, our counter strike, our doom, battlefield, WoW. Warcraft 3. Games which are hard, require strategy skill, etc, and games which make us play for 10's or 100's of hours. These other games are casual games such as Angry Birds, Temple Run, Doodle jump, Mario. Are games which we play from time to time, easy, good for killing time.
10:30 TB throws away a 4 key chain, while approaching a chest, telling us how you should just match w/e as quickly as you can, as its more efficient. 11:00 still looking for keys.
The deal about the PC version costing extra is likely because of Valve and Steam. It presume that it costs money to keep all of these titles online and available for purchase, so it's likely that the cost is raised to allow for continued similar profits for EightyEightGames, while giving Valve their particular cut of whatever is owed. It's like a developer giving some cut to a publisher through the sales of a retail game. The publisher provides a service, the developer shares the profit.
Great that you tell us it exists on the iOS too, since it feels more like a game you play on the bus for a few minutes and not when you're at your computer. ^_^
There were lots of comments that said things in these formats, like: "[quote from TB]" ~Totalbiscuit, 2013 The part behind the wavy line states the person's name/alias, and the year in which the thing was said. Not he said "Totalbiscuit, 2013", which was as a joke, and then I put it in a quotation format like that. Try and make sense out of that, it's hardly possible to explain, as I'm not native English either ;)
Check out his twitter for all the info on vids or events. He has two accounts, one that only alerts you when he uploads too! Yesterday he said the SC2 team stuff kept him too busy for a Content Patch. his main twitter is just @Totalbiscuit and the other one is @CynicalBrit
Yeah, I only brought that up as an example, because that video is pretty old, and the game did develope a lot, especially, since open beta is like in a week or so.
He's already gone over this. The video recording and the audio recording are separate recordings, though they happen at the same time. Since he starts the audio recording before he starts the video recording, he says "mark" to mark the point he started commentating so that he can overlap the video recording and the audio recording at the right spot. Sometimes, he forgets to cut out when he says "mark."
The "Mark" thing was the end of a sentence. I believe it was "Well, Francois Achille Bazaine was a decent Commander In Chief, but no-one was going to defeat the Prussian Led North German Confederation, led by the great Otto van Bismarck.
It was posted, seriously, once, twice, and maybe three times. Then people started making fun of it. And now people try to keep making fun of it. It's also known as "kicking a dead horse".
I just find myself addicted to games that have very extensive upgrades and improvements that continue to change the game, making you stronger, preferably having several options for said upgrades. I'm fairly certain I'm not the only person that's plain addicted to these games.
For those interested in a real time RPG/Puzzle Hybrid, I highly recommend checking out Legend of Fae on Steam. It's a very well put together game with good art, hectic skillful gameplay, and quite a lot of cool upgrades to choose from.
Games from a developer that already has games on steam get automaticly accepted. There are rumors that's why WarZ made it on steam, because the company had released a game on steam before.
As one man stated, "Video games were designed for entertainment." A game is a seemingly varied term by what ever one individual likes to play on a system of a sort There are multiple examples of this and a fairly recent one for some people I personally know named "Katawa Shoujo" a visual novel and by this standard to me, it is not a game.On the contrary, to them, it is a game because of it's entertainment purposes directed towards emotional feelings rather than my terminology of such. action ect
i think the game could have been more interesting if they stacked the matches. One of my pet peeves with it is getting a match just to find out you've wasted it by matching it too early. But yeah, randomly matching as fast as you can is the way to go. It's fun up until the point where it's just a grind.
Nah, you about got it right. I got my statement wrong by including 10,000,000 along with my thoughts. I mostly took issue with the insinuation that those pointless cow clicker games are somehow "fake games", going along with the mention of the phrase "real game". All video games are "real games"; I find that it's a matter of how they're designed, how entertaining they are. In that regard, yeah, they're probably WORSE games, but being worse doesn't make them any less of a game.
On the contrary, your criticism is exactly what I like to see. I'm not insinuating you should change anything, I was only questioning the "real game" remark. And I'll admit I did misspeak in regards to my mention of 10,000,000. My point was that saying something is a "real game" insinuates that other games are somehow fake in their nature. They're all still games, but whether they're engaging or not is what matters, as you've mentioned. Doesn't make them any less "real".
Also, because he is a well known reviewer, he asks developers for a "review copy" - which is a free copy of the game, and in return he reviews their game.
I wonder if TB thinks the brief "Mark" being left in is actually a big deal. Not as if I blame him for having high standards and expectations for himself. That's what makes his videos so good. I just think that there are some things that are completely pointless to actually worry about. It doesn't actually take away from the video or anything. I like it. It's almost a little more personal, to keep those tiny things like that.
Well, games that come out on iOS (generally, you always have some exceptions) are considered to be sort of a "flash game", i.e. you would be able to find this kind of game on armorgames ,miniclip, etc. and play it for free. Now, when I heard the statement, "I guess I grew up on real games", I deduced that TB meant that people wouldn't even compare this game to say Hitman, Skyrim, Fallout, etc. Heck, I scroll through comments and people even refer to this as toilet gaming.
I have a feeling that the first time it was a mistake but now he just does it every now and then to see how many people will point it out in the comment section.
No seriously, when he started doing these WTF vids, there was an E-mail where you could send him a game to be shown on it. My friend made a "match 3" style game and sent it in and he got the reply that TB doesn't do those kinds of games. Now we see him doing this game. You tell me, how do you think this looks?
you can implement some more strategy into the random scrolling for combos to increase your chance of a cascade, for example trying for combos at the bottom increases your chance of a cascade. there are many larger match 3 games free online. some of them vastly outstrip this one.
That's true, but I'm still allowed to point it out. I did misspeak on one point, but my overall view on his remark still stands. Apparently he's replied to me in a comment somewhere, so I'm trying to find it to read it in its entirety, and I guess he's stood by his remark. Which is totally fine, it just happens to be a remark I didn't agree with in regards to the way he presented it.
tb makes every puzzler look harder than it is, to be able to make use of a review (or preview/impressions such as these) you have to know the reviewer and then form your own opinions based on that. "this reviewer sucks at puzzlers, but it has components I may enjoy, and he also liked this and that so ill pick it up"
thanks for the video TB. at least i can be heard mentioning a new Steam game that barely has any UA-cam videos to speak of (or not, whatever). that aside, who's Mark? i must of been under a freaking boulder after hearing various comments in this video about him. i only know of Mark from Classic Game Room but that's it.
Dude. He's live commentating while playing a game, which you've no doubt heard people complain about how difficult it is. Not only is he playing a game while live commentating, he's playing a match three game that requires specific tiles to perform specific tasks in real time. So, I'd say forgive him if he just messed up a few fucking words.
I think it's just the usage of the word "Real game" mainly because it gives the implication that "Total thinks am not playing a real game/Total thinks I like to eat shit" for Ravid.
Good point; the entertainment factor does make a strong point to a critics' bias or opinion of a game. I personally loved Katawa Shoujo, due to the story it told, but as far as gameplay goes, yeah, it's not much of a game. I still believe it has its merits, though, and that's part of the key to both his remark and my response. The value of a game is based on the individual playing it; that value shouldn't make those games any less of a game. Maybe a worse one, but not a "real" or "fake" game.
Good point, I did overlook the fact that he excluded 10,000,000 from the category he mentions. But that still doesn't make his feelings about those particular games any less insulting. At least, that's the way it comes across to me. And it's not that I particularly disagree with his assessment of those games, but the way in which he presented his views on it struck me as odd.
This is the type of game that is great on your mobile, for short 5-10 min periods when you're out and about. But on PC it will probably just end up another game on steam that you see a few months later with 5 mins played and can't even remember buying.

I actually bought this game i thoroughly enjoyed it.

Are people here cos its on 80p Steam sale at the moment?
I am forever salty. It's a condition where specific topics derive me of any humor. I live with it day by day...
I love this game! :D 16 hours in to it...
It lets whoever is editing the audio know what to cut out and what to keep.
It's basically the equivalent of a director yelling action.
More than 9,999,999?
i dont know why but whenever i hear you say "mark" at the beginning it just brightens my day
Man I thought u had to do this 10 million times that would have sucked
Most fun I am having lately with TB is him doing the Dota2 content. I don't really play the game, but I was quite into the first Dota years ago. (got tired of it) TB if you read this, I know you don't take request I'm just saying it's good fun to remember all the old heroes with you.
He doesn't take requests, he takes recommendations. If he wants to do it, he does it.

Take Indiana Jones on the Atari,
Bejeweled,
Tetris DS Marathon/Story Mode,
RPG Elements,
There you go. You got 10,000,000
Favourite quote: "A storm of tiley justice!"
"Multiple storm of tiley justice" That needs to be a box quote.
Whenever watching a TB video, i sort of just zone out and go on Reddit, jesus TB. Your voice is so soothing
my name is Mark :
Biscuit: Mark
Me: what does everybody want from me !!!
When TotalBiscuit said "real game" he meant 'hardcore' games, such as our Starcraft, our counter strike, our doom, battlefield, WoW. Warcraft 3. Games which are hard, require strategy skill, etc, and games which make us play for 10's or 100's of hours.

answer to the title: the count of subscribers you deserve
The deal about the PC version costing extra is likely because of Valve and Steam. No, it's obviously TB's way of sending out a secret message to his hidden army of Marks!
My guess:
*pre-video countdown*
"3, 2, 1, mark." (start of video) "Ladies and Gentlemen..."
Great that you tell us it exists on the iOS too, since it feels more like a game you play on the bus for a few minutes and not when you're at your computer. ^_^
How is that ironic? He isn't saying its a bad game, he's just saying it's one he personally doesn't like.
There were lots of comments that said things in these formats, like:

It's to let him know, in he audio where he started recording the video, to help him sync it better.
Hi Mark. I've been expecting you... (pets imaginary cat while slowly turning the chair around).
"This dilapidated 8 - bit pixelated tower nonsense."
- Total Biscuit, 2013
I am glad that TB didn't flip a shit this time and calmly explained his reasoning, rather than blowing up when someone mutters a bit of criticism
Yeah, I only brought that up as an example, because that video is pretty old, and the game did develope a lot, especially, since open beta is like in a week or so.

For those who dont know he says mark to... well.. mark the spot where the video begins so he can sync it with his voice
And here I was thinking "Wow does TB have 10.000.000 subscribers now!"
Watching a first impression video featuring nothing but 8-bit graphics in 1080p.
Like a baws.
Looks like TB missed his....
*puts on shades*
... mark!
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
The "Mark" thing was the end of a sentence. I believe it was "Well, Francois Achille Bazaine was a decent Commander In Chief, but no-one was going to defeat the Prussian Led North German Confederation, led by the great Otto van Bismarck.

Don't worry. We have our top men trying to decipher what the hell this man just said.

OH LOOK! It's a puzzle game with pixel art! So cool and new!

But yeah, randomly matching as fast as you can is the way to go. It's fun up until the point where it's just a grind.
For those wondering, bought this on iOS for like 1.60, completed in 7h15m.
I like how the icon for gold is a hand flipping you the bird.
Nah, you about got it right. I got my statement wrong by including 10,000,000 along with my thoughts. initial impressions, totalbiscuit hooks up with numberphile xD
Everyone seems to love Mark! Let's hear move of him!
"Storm of tile-y justice." TotalBiscuit 2013.
Or to sync up audio and video, you start the audio recording first and start the video recording when you say "mark".
On the contrary, your criticism is exactly what I like to see. I'm not insinuating you should change anything, I was only questioning the "real game" remark. Look at my name. Now look at this guy's name.
See a resemblance?
TB's super intelligent giant space chinchilla assistant.
just saw this game on steam and was like "wtf is this", then suddently you made the video XD thanks TB
"A multiple storm of tiley justice" TotalBiscut 2013
It's also possible that the devs gift him the games in the hope that he does a video on them.
Excessively large explosive device intended to be dropped from a height.
You had me at "storm of tiley justice".
Also, because he is a well known reviewer, he asks developers for a "review copy" - which is a free copy of the game, and in return he reviews their game.
This game is good for introducing RPG games for your parents. Definitely a buy for me.
I wonder if TB thinks the brief "Mark" being left in is actually a big deal.

He says that at the start of the video so he knows where to start editing later on.

It's me, and he does it because I'm a supernatural entity who provides the good man with chi. Mystery solved!
YOU'RE TEARING ME APART, LISA!
He says that to know where to start the video. Normally he edits it out, but occasionally he doesn't.
bought that for the ipad, tried it out the first time in university, played the whole 1,5 houres of the lecture

Did I ever tell you the definition of "insanity"?
Okay, im going to sum up this entire video.
A number.
actually most of the games are sent to him (from indie developers), you can probably figure out why.
a natural number between 9,999,999 and 10,000,001. you´re welcome...

this is basicly a spelunky, but more modern
This game reminds me a lot of Henry Hatsworth.
I also suddenly want to play Meteos!
david jaffe said this game was one of his top ten for 2012 i think he even ranked it number one
10,000,000 - 88 = 9,999,912
Half-Life 9,999,912 confirmed.

That's exactly what it is, he uses it to sync the audio with the video.
