Imagine being a kid and thinking super boy was the original, and then going to your friend who had an nes and thinking “darn super Mario is such a copy of super boy!” And then playing it and realizing it’s much better So your thinking to yourself “I can’t believe the clone of super boy is better than the original!”
What puzzles me, is the Super Boy games were for Master System, which allowed up to 15(16 if you count transparent) colours per sprite, which is considerably higher than a NES' 3(4 incl transparent), yet they downgraded the number colours used...

Hey Darby. I just thought of it, this isn't a bootleg or pirate or anything, but another fan game made in Super Mario Bros. X. It's called Super Mario Bros. 3 Remake, and it's pretty much SMB3 in SMBX. I thought you might like to check it out, since you like Super Mario Bros. 3 a lot.
Because they are too similar to the source material, and they're quite fair, handing out checkpoints (must be Christmas!) I think these were designed as satirizations of bootlegs of the olden era. And that's pretty kewl. They did a good job of making it seem legit, making them more "fake" as the games go on. Plus, most bootlegs don't have direct sequels, usually they just cash in on existing sequel names to trick parents into thinking it's the legit one.
Laughing so much at sb3 part.... Zemina is a old korean software company. If I remember correctly they used to have their own system . Mushroom is ginseng, Pepsi mark is actually blue red part of korean Tai chi mark

In Super Boy 4 when he collects the hand, why does he become black? Did he stay out in the sun too long or was he walking around in blackface? Because both of those are bad but for completely different reasons.
Umm.. he turns red..? That's what they intended I think. Cuz he shoots fire, so I guess just like in Mario his clothes turn red, except S-Boi turned red on his skin too.

Super Boy 4 actually looks rather fun. I support their buffing of the Fire Flower compared to SMW, where it felt like more than half the enemies in the game were immune.
I heard SB1 described as "if someone just played through Mario 1 once and didn't find any secrets". That makes sense because it's on the Sega, and Sega kids wouldn't have much care for Mario

I think you were playing the MSX version of super boy 1 because the sky was darker in the SMS than the MSX version and in the SMS version, there was a mushroom at the first part of the level while you can't do that in the MSX version. Also, in the SMS version on level 1-4, there are fire bars and in the MSX version o the same level, there are no firebars.
The invincibility pickup in SB3 might be the Korean flag, I was hesitating between Korean, Chinese and Singaporean bootlegs, trying to guess where the Mark-III might have seen a successful in Asia... Also it's not a Thwomp, it"s a Thmp (it got thinner). Also, am I racist or is Super Boy 4 turning black when he can shoot fireballs?
