Just saw nigel at leeds arena with priest. He is without a doubt, one of the best drummers ive seen live. Phenomenal technique...... The kick was pounding my internal organs..loved that!
I remember 1992, My then band ( KING LOUIS ) opened for SAXON on quite a few dates whales and the MARQUEE LONDON. good times nice guys. i first saw them live in 1982 great gig.
Graham Oliver was fired from Saxon for trying to sell the live at donnington 1980 performance behind the band’s back on cd format. For people who didn’t know
Mr.Glocklerbid is so Humble, even though he is an amazing drummer.I have been a fan of Saxon since 1983. Lost my respect for Priest after they screwed over KK Downing...
Nigel Glockler….just a Byford puppet, he’s an employee on Byfords payroll for gods sake, didn’t contribute or write anything on the first 4 albums, which are undoubtedly the best Saxon albums. The irony is that he’s made a living off them for the past 40 years, what’s also ironic is that Paul Quinn left the byford corporation and started gigging with Graham. Great drummer glockler but you should be respectful of the 2 people who gave you the position you’re in now.
Used to watch Saxon, when they were called, Son Of A Bitch. I still think Doby and Graham were just as entitled to use the name, as much as Biff. The new album is very good though to be fair.
Brilliant guy ive also had beers with him and doug. But paul quinn is the real saxon guitarist. Brian aint bad. But the quinny style just is the cream for me. He to is a fabulous guy and doesn't forget his roots and fans. ❤
Uno early days, saxon was the best saxon the i do prefer nibs to dawson though believe he had alot to do with the solid ball of rock album which was an insane album. But like of power and glory , devil ride out , rock and roll gypsy , broken heroes and crusader they dont make them like they used to
@@LB00146Lol you're judging him because of something that's been printed in the media! The first important lesson to learn in life is never trust anything that's in the media. Next, never trust the govt. Finally question everything and look for more than just one opinion.
Biff, Doug, and Nigel have been on over half the discography. Oh, and who get's the call to replace Paul Quinn? Brian Tatler. Tribute band. LMAO. You clearly have not seen them on a stage recently. They ABSOLUTELY CRUSH! As does Mick Box and the current Uriah Heep. Would you rather the music just die off? Give it a chance, mate!
It gets old all these legacy bands always blaming grunge alone for their downturn in fortunes. SAXON were mostly responsible for their own decline by trying to pander to US audiences in the mid 80's which failed abysmally, in a time when thrash metal & extreme music such as grindcore was on the rise. They diluted their sound too much & were out of touch with the times, but they aren't blaming thrash metal are they? Easier to simply blame the common enemy grunge like everyone else does. Yawn. But that wasn't really SAXON's era, even if they were still recording & touring. Kudos they're still performing. But we all know the greatest SAXON albums had Pete Gill on drums!
The music landscape changed totally in the 90s, very few survived the transition. Perhaps it's not all grunges fault but that seemed the dominant genre.
@@predictorleague8780 grunge existed as an underground genre around 84-85 but it didn't become mainstream until 1991. On the contrary, Saxon were part of a group of NWOBHM bands that softened their sound to try tailor to US audiences, along with the likes of TYGERS OF PAN TANG & GIRLSCHOOL, all vying for DEF LEPPARD's success & all failing to crack the US, whilst simultaneously alienating their established European fanbase. That was actually the time this drummer came onboard during their weakest point musically. The musical landscape was indeed changing, and these bands' made ill-fated moves only to try ride the times, and there was record label pressure for commercial success. Luckily SAXON rebounded & they have been very consistent & productive in recent years, and have had some strong releases, perhaps even moreso than the likes of Priest or Maiden etc.
@@ddguitars1969 indeed I addressed this in a comment below, I was referring to the 84-88 era. Completely agree they have had a late career resurgence & have been more consistent than even Iron Maiden & Judas Priest with their recent albums including the new one!
He picks This town rocks. Lol. One of the most childish corny songs they ever did. What an embarrassment Glockler is. He should perhaps concentrate on playing the songs at the correct tempo live instead of 3 times faster than they should be.
@@seethroughhead505 Wow. I heard Denim and Leather @ ‘85 or maybe a bit earlier, when I was a young teenager. I thought the song was pretty good but I didn’t go out and buy the album. My favorite band was Van Halen and I was also buying AC/DC, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue albums. Then @ 2000 I saw the album ‘Denim and Leather’ at a used record store. Well they wouldn’t be able to record or tour with Dawson for the next 5 years at least even if they wanted to. I also hope that no one in the main Saxon band knew what he was up to.
I was your average Saxon fan between 79 and some of 83 (although seeing every Hammersmith show over that period, being a member of the Militia Guard fanclub and having the Eagle painted on my denim might elevate that to just below "super"...?) and yes, it was too much for me....😊
I owe respect to anyone who ever played on a saxon album. So does everyone else.

Saxon, like Priest..is essentially a cover band of itself.
Steve Dawson may have retired, but he’s made the news in a bad way within the last week.
Exactly. Makes me glad he was fired in 86! Good bassist but a bad man.

Their songwriting was not on the same level as the other NWBHM… Saxon never really developed their own identity until early 2000
