  • 2nd time filmed at Dawlish Warren although last visit was way back in March 2019 that was just on the station platform however this time I opted to film some clips from outside the station and along the sea wall so including Great Western Railway and CrossCountry services and also a visit from the Midland Pullman HST.
Dawlish Warren is a seaside resort which has two holiday parks including one known as the Brunel Holiday Park with former rail carriages been converted into lodges. It's easy access to the nearby amusement park and the South Coast Sea wall which runs along the railway into Dawlish and beyond.
At the time of filming access along the seawall where the down platform at Dawlish is was closed off due to ongoing works with Section 2 of the Sea wall being built although it's not due to be completed until early 2023
Dawlish Warren station is the only station on the riviera Line to have passing loops served by Exmouth to Paignton services as well as served by some Castle HST services from Cardiff Central to Penzance and IET services to and from Paignton to London Paddington with a few trains a day serving here from London to Plymouth.
The station was a later addition opening in 1905 as Warren Halt although located where the footbridge is having been built originally in 1873. The station was renamed to todays name in 1911 and re-sited to todays location in 1912.
The original station building on the down platform was burnt down in a fire in 1924
A former goods yard use to exist here until it was closed in 1971 with the final link severed in 1982.
Since 1971 the station mostly nowadays is largely unstaffed however in the summer months even in difficult times the station can be very busy and from time to time to the narrow platforms staff have to be present.
A former building use to house a model railway museum however was destroyed in a fire in 2003 however a new residential building opened in 2007 on the site of the former Dawlish Warren Signal Box which closed in 1986 and was demolished in 1990 when all signalling on the riviera line was transfer to Exeter Signal Box.
Even in uncertain times whilst it may be as normal however even in Dawlish on a warm sunny day its more of Sun, Sand, Sea and Rail give Dawlish Warren that Holiday Atmosphere.
