Great reaction. Here in the UK it's actually a big talking point that no footballer in the Premier League has ever come out as gay. And only a few footballers in the lower leagues have come out, and one sadly took his own life. There is a lot of pressure on footballers to be manly men - but by the law of averages... I mean. That's why I think they've introduced this storyline. Ted Lasso could actually create change in the real world if they do it right.
Much the same here in the US with our traditional sports. Only recently, the first active gay NFL player came out publicly. As for proper football, homophobia is largely absent from our MLS. In fact, it is widely considered the most LBGTQ-friendly of the mainstream sports leagues in North America. Pride flags are a common site at MLS matches. Some clubs even have LGBTQ-specific supporter groups/firms. I think the reason is that football (⚽, not 🏈) is most popular here amongst younger adults, who are really the first to grow up with LGBTQ people out and proud in the public eye. Regardless of the reason, it's one of the many facets about MLS which I like better than European leagues - in spite of the deficit of quality, which actually isn't as great as many perceive. I say this as a life long Celtic FC fan. COYBIG Faugh a ballach Hail hail 🍀⚽✊🇮🇪🏴
Colin has been my fav himbo since S1 I'm glad he's getting his own storyline now :) fans have been wanting him to get a gay/bi storyline since he pointed out that bantr is spelled a lot like grindr and got some looks in the locker room for it. I like how it's his best mate Isaac that makes the gay comment in the beginning and also him who checks in on Colin after getting dropped out of the starting 11.
I like that Ted felt comfortable telling Sassy about his Ex with the former couples therapist! He see’s her as a safe ally. Zava is totally hilarious - the writers are just going full on with this character. They can mold him like a rock!
I’m glad Sassy pointed out that it’s unethical for a therapist to date a patient, this plot twist makes me so angry. It’s not just unethical, it’s gross, against AMA regulations, and a HIPAA violation!
You bring up an interesting take on the Ted/Sassy conversation. Was it a moment where Ted was vulnerable and confided in Sassy, or was it a sign of him not showing any consideration for Sassy because he's too consumed with his ex? Adam mentioned the latter in our review portion of this video. But maybe it is a sign that Ted is opening up more around Sassy, as you say. -Andrew
Thanks for the video, guys! I agree that Trent is likely to be supportive of Collin. Super excited about the evolution of the Roy and Jaime friendship! I'm also waiting to see Ms. Bowen again.
I found the newly revealed relationship between Michelle and Dr Jacob to be really interesting and looking back to earlier seasons (maybe as far back as season 1?), Ted mentions that Michelle was seeing a therapist and that when they started couples therapy they went to the same therapist (pretty unethical - it's normally a third party with no prior knowledge of the relationship) and that Ted always felt like it was 2 against 1 in those sessions. It seems to me the implication is that Dr Jacob has deliberately tried to split them up so he could be with Michelle and I think that makes for a really interesting dynamic in a series where positivity and seeing the best in people are big themes. If Dr Jacob really did split them up, would that make him a true "villain" on par with Rupert? Also, something I found interesting were the parallels between Dr Jacob and Ted - both doing impersonations on the phone (Ted did Kermit when talking to Dr Sharon in season 2), Dr Jacob's Facebook profile showing him doing things like dressing as a banana for a fun run - something I can totally see Ted doing.
Two big takeaways from this episode: Trent is on the verge of becoming an official Diamond Dog - the Julie Andrews scene showed that - and I just don’t see him outing Colin. It would undo all of the character work Trent’s gone through, especially with his wish to have a career with more integrity than the “gotcha” antics of the splash page. There was a real moment when Sam accused the Nigerian government of corruption that affected Trent, you could tell, and from that moment on he really was on the trajectory of shedding the tabloid-hunting. If anything, Trent will be an ally to Colin in the coming days when, as I suspect it will go down, Colin will be outed by accident or through orchestration by Nate and Rupert. Before this episode, I pitied Michelle. I genuinely thought she was just a person who was incapable of appreciating the wonderful man she was married to. But this episode changed everything. Ted mentions in season 2 that he felt like marriage counseling was just a way for Michelle to point out everything wrong with him. But if she was having an emotional or even physical affair with the therapist? That is insidious gaslighting at its core. Additionally, “Dr. Jake” is a sleaze at best - it is unethical, against AMA regulations, and downright just gross for a medical practitioner to date a patient. He should be stripped of his license in the very least. But if he used his power as a doctor to actually manipulate a patient into accepting a job in another country? Disgusting.
Regarding Trent/Colin: I agree. I said the same thing during the review portion of this video. Understandably, most people don't stick around after the reaction portion, so I wanted to mention that we share the same thoughts on Trent. Regarding Michelle: I have a lot of thoughts - many of which are in line with what you're saying about her (and "Dr. Jake"). However, there is too much we simply don't know yet. Is she just as culpable as Jake? She says she wants to talk with Ted to explain things, and I hesitate to arrive to any sort of judgement until that happens. However, with Jake... all indications seem to suggest that he violated A LOT of rules both socially and professionally. Thank you for watching AND commenting! 🙏 -Andrew
@@vicenteraira My parents are both in the medical field so I grew up knowing HIPAA rules by heart. And then my boyfriend left me for his optometrist. So yeah, I have some opinions. 😂
My guess on the Trent + Colin plot line is that Trent will approach Colin, tell him what he saw, and ask Colin if he wants his sexuality to be included in the book or not...the tone of the show overall makes me think Colin will originally say no and stay in the closet, but by the end of the season tell Trent he's okay with it.
Back in the episode “Headspace” we see Trent leaving Hope & Anchor w a male companion telling him he’ll be just a few moments while he dig deeper into Ted’s “food poisoning”. Granted there’s no indication that Trent’s dinner companion was anything more than that, but nothing i unintentional in this series. Personally i think Trent will be a support system of Collin.
I was a bit surprised that nobody in the locker room (except Jamie) is skeptical of Zava's selfish eccentricity, particularly Beard. Maybe Roy is a little bit now that he wants to train Jamie. Zava has them all under a spell.
I was too. I think I said the same thing in this video or the one from last week. Regardless, the fawning over Zava across the board is a bit over the top. Rebecca is the only other one not having it atm. I think there were hints in this episode that suggest other characters will start to think a little less of Zava as a teammate moving forward. -Andrew
Prediction for E4 and beyond. Nate orders players to take out Zava, Zava gets injured, Richmond lose to West Ham, Richmond falls in table, Jamie rises through the chaos, Roy builds relationship w Jamie, Richmond recover with Jamie leading the team in scoring, Jamie reunited with Keeley briefly, Roy deals with it well and then reunite with Keeley after she calls it off with Jamie, West Ham fall in table after Richmond clash but go on a cup run, lose at some point to Man City, Nate’s confidence crashes but Ted helps him restore it, Ted confides in Nate and Trent Crimm that he wants to go home, a return of Nate to Richmond is arranged and he apologises to team with Ted backing him, Nate and Roy replace Ted and Beard, ends with Richmond winning EPL in montage and Ted reunited with his son. Or none of this could happen, what do I know??
I really hope we don’t have the rug pulled from under us with regards to Trent. He was jobless after revealing Nate as his source, so I hope his income is not from Rupert who is paying him to disrupt the Richmond team. If we get a flashback showing that when he was on that call, when Roy was popping the balloons, and we see it from the other end and it’s Rupert (anything like that), I’ll be livid!
@@ItTakes2Takes I hope it doesn’t happen, and Trent doesn’t seem like he is doing this from his demeanour. If he is he’s a great actor. The character is a great actor in-world, not the actual real actor. Is there some chance that he is forced to put the story out, or give it to someone? I think that’s more likely. However, I’m thinking that, because of what he uncovered in episode four, which I won’t spoil, that maybe something is leaked and people think it’s him, so he gets fired by the club, but then turns it around somehow and proves he is a force for good in this world. Hoping more than anything, I suppose.
@@residentsteve he had Doc Sharon teaching him "i'm strong and capable man" in season 2 and he kept repeating it. it was established he's obsessed with independence ofWaIes, Keeley told him to not post it onBantr. in season 1 he and Isaac were b*..ying Nate until Roy knocked him out with his own head.
Trent won’t damage his relationship with Ted and the club. He’ll tell Colin he’s seen him. He won’t say anything but if someone else does see him they might not keep it quiet. Dr Jacob is a Ted mini me. Personality wise. Unethical as hell though !
So delightful to watch these Americans talk about "zava" as if he is a made up character 😀... poor things don't even know that this is some pg 13 version of a the real man 😂😂😂

Which character? Dr. Jacob? I think he's only been mentioned as the unseen and unnamed couples counselor until he was revealed in this episode.
