    Thank you so much for doing these demos!! I've got so many art supplies that I paid a lot for decades ago, but never or hardly ever used. Lately I've been thinking about doing surface designs on fabrics to use in quilts, but was reluctant to spend even more money on fabric paint. I'm so glad I stumbled upon your videos. I'm now inspired to get out all those paints and pastels and give them a try! ❤

      I know it’s a year later but it you apply the inktence straight on the fabric when you add water with a paint brush they come up so very vibrant. If you have them please try it. You do have to heat set them. Cheers 🇦🇺

    Thank you for doing this comparison for us!! Just last week, I stood looking at all these different types of colors. I didn’t buy a thing because of my lack of knowledge. Great foundational information!! 😁

    Hi Julia. I’m another fan who is constantly informed and inspired by your videos. I was just watching this one about testing your art supplies. I, too, have many of those mixed media supplies for art journaling on paper, and it’s so nice to know they can be used on fabric as well. You mentioned wondering about a clear fabric medium. I just saw a YT vid where the artist used aloe vera! as her medium. Thought I’d share that info with you. Thanks for all your inspiration!

    I am92 and love watercolor painting and colored pencils. I teach watercolor painting at the Cancer Center. This will be something new for us to try. Can any of these products be used on silk? I would like an easy way to paint silk scarfs for Christmas gifts this year that are washable. Love this tutorial. I haven't painted on fabric for a long time and only used acrylics on T-shirts and sweat shirts.. This is all new to me. Your tutorial has been very helpful. Thank you so much. Will be watching from now on.

      Hi, I have never experimented on silk. I picked a piece of lighter colored silk at a thrift store. I'll have to give it a try. The watercolors are more transparent than acrylics so they would not show up on a darker color. Thanks so much for watching. I love that you are still going strong at 92. Bless you!

I know some people paint on fabric….but coloring….wow! Thank you!

    This was great info, Julia. I love it when you combine art supplies with fabric on your projects! I also am encouraged by the results with the oil pastels. I bought some intending to use them for landscape quilting, but they are still sitting in my box of stuff! I'll have to get some archival ink pads too--really liked the result you got. Thanks again for another GREAT video! 😄

Note that I only tested on 100% cottons and always heat set. Also, they work best on lighter colors. Have fun! Julia

    Hi. Are the watercolours you used special for fabrics or just regular old water colours? Thanks for the oil pastels. Did not realize they would work on fabric! Exciting.

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  Рік тому +3

      Hi, The watercolors are a regular student grade watercolor. I love the results on fabric because they are more translucent and you can see the fibers and your stitches. Acrylic paints are opaque and will completely cover thread etc. It's fun to experiment.

    Wondering if each color is the same for all the different brands. Often Red/ Blue/ purple colors work better than yeows and greens for instance. Don't think you can accurately generalize by brands as colors vary.

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  Рік тому

      True- colors would vary. I mentioned this during the watercolor test. Blue is very staining and will hold up well during washing.

    Have you tried painting Gac on fabric first then coloring onto it with neocolor 2 or inktense? Wonder if that would make it easier and colors more vibrant?
    Have you tried soft pastels? I tried using them but the dust was too much for me - maybe I can use it for fabric!

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  Рік тому +1

      Hi, I tried on a lighter colored background and the GAC stained the fabric. I didn't have the best of luck but I may have used too much. I have never used the soft pastels. it's fun to experiment!

It is very hard for me to see and I only show a small part of actual sewing because of it. Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.
