Guys, apparently, the sound was kinda robotic during the livestream. I'll try to fix this next livestream, hope you don't mind too much. Thx for the support!
Thanks for reacting to this awesome Pentatonix video. I love this collab with Lindsey. I hope that you will check out the other 2 collabs that others have listed.
Nice reaction, thank you! It's great that you are going through all these PTX songs. They never cease to amaze. I'd like to give props to Scott on this song (and so many others.) He has those theatrical moves that are always on point and add elegance to the performance.
Lindsey has done 2 other colabs with PTX...Radioactive and Papaoutai ( done entirely in French) and Kevin plays his Beyonce (cello) in both AND beatboxes at the same time. You should check them out.
If you are interested in Pentatonix's recording process, they released a video showing parts of their recording last fall for their "Evergreen" Christmas album, including recording vocal parts for this song. Search for "Pentatonix The Recording of Evergreen". It's 17 minutes long.
Kevin played cello and beatboxed simultaneously when they performed this song in concert back in December. (Lindsay wasn't part of the performance) Kevin also added in a cello intro interlude to this song at the concert. It was incredible.
Trust PTX to take a traditional Christmas song and add their own flair to it! My understanding is that the individual sets and costumes are supposed to reflect elements: water (Scott), air (Mitch), fire (Kirstin), earth (Matt). Not sure about Kevin and Lindsey - since they're playing instruments, they may be representing something else.
Kevin tagged the term cello boxing.. a video he made while in college (Yale.. pre med) of him beatboxing while playing cello is what prompted PTX to contact him and ask him to join them... 2011
This is still a cappella! Why? Call it "enhanced" a cappella, or a cappella plus. All the sounds we hear, the foreground melody, the background harmonies, the baseline and percussion, it's all still there, provided only by PTX. They are completely transparent; what you see is what you get. If they enhance the song with a piano, as they do in the song, "Thank you," or with the cello, "Shallow," or with a backing choir, "Seasons of Love," you SEE the enhancements immediately, you know it is there, and that it will be woven into and around a full performance by PTX, so it could be performed without the other stuff. That's why!

If you want to be even more amazed at Kevin's "celloboxing," his original performance of "Renegade" is jaw dropping.
Their costumes represent the elements: Mitch is wind, Kirstie is fire, Scott is water, Matt is trees and Kevin is earth. Lindsey is magic.
It was filmed in a studio. Lindsey and Kevin always enjoy playing together.
Recommend their cover of My Favorite Things.

Scott loves his dramatic flares. You see it a lot in Favourite Things too. It's possibly my fave Scott mood lol.
Aren’t they phenomenal

Itxs always fun to watch KO & Lindsey play together. I really love seeing them almost battling with strings in parts of their cover of Radioactive.

You have to pay to have ads removed from You tube, not free. Darn, the video is blocked here on mine - USA.
