Jay's ability to mimic the specific tonality of people's voices is actually incredible, he seems super underappreciated for that.

If anything, he was caught in the stage light glare,
Then I slapped him in his face like, "That's my lady fair!"
I walked back to my seat and in front of the crowd,I yelled two times, "Keep my wife's name out your f***in' mouth!"I won't go to prison 'cause I'm a millionaire.I sit in my home with the bitch with no hair.

yes, that's how SNL works, the cast mates are all writers and pitch sketches thus jay wrote this and thus since it was selected by lorne he got to do it.

@@PennyMsElite Kinda. He had an opportunity to do some things on his own, but Lorne Michaels wasn't tryna let him miss the SNL work to do it, so he rolled out and bet on himself.
He chose to leave, he was getting so much praise for his impersinations that he demanded more from SNL and it went to his head. He decided to try out on his own as a stand up comedian and ended up flat on his face. Just because you are good at impersonations, does not mean you are good at stand up. Dude would be rich right now if he realized how made he had it with SNL.
@@elliotriosrivera2196 he was a stand up popular up and coming comedian before he joined SNL, his most popular sets involved impersonating Eddie Murphy.
Not sure what happened or why he did not hit so hard after leaving SNL though.
@@ironroad18 he wasnt as popular as you think. He had his 5 secs of fame because of his amazing impersonations, like the one you just mentioned, but his stand up material wasnt that good and you cannot be a succesfull stand up comedian with just impersonations, what made his success in SNL was the perfect combination of his impersonations and the writter skit/jokes and he thought he was bigger than the writters and burned the bridge with SNL. He had his 5 secs of fame on his own, but burned out quickly.

Jay Pharaoh ranks up there with Eddie Murphy, Dana Carvey, and Darrell Hammond as one of SNL best impersonators. He's also one of SNL's most underrated cast members.

He wasn't a good cast member just like melissa isn't a good cast member. All they can do are impressions and although they are both great at them it's not enough.

In fact he himself said he was the catalyst for getting more black women hired as writers and performers. He himself said he did not get along with the show very well.
Considering he knocked him down to the ground, i'd say the "welcome to earth" line worked really well in that scene, a true master of.....Acting!

Yes! Kenan is constantly given a hard time for "always playing the same character" but I think it's just that some of his acting choices are subtle. This is a great example. He's spot on! And his line about being classically trained "on _Silver Spoons_ " was very understated.

Wow, I knew Jay Pharaoh was good, I've never heard him do a Will Smith impression. Almost spot on. I am only now seeing this on 2/5/2022 at 4:10 a.m. And it shows this was uploaded in 2013. SMH! How many more SNL clips have I missed out on? I have watched every single MADTV episode that was ever made. I still watch them.
