This makes me want to look at a 9-7x now. Glad you are posting this to encourage rescuing these. Two words my friend. Header wrap. You will love it. Your engine bay will too. Right after you burn off and repaint them with some good stuff.
Thanks. Yeah the 9-7 isn't bad at all,y wife loves driving ours. As for header wrap I've been thinking about it. I may do that once winter is over with a coat of high temp paint. I just don't even want to think about removing the headers to paint and wrap them. As you'll see in part 2 installing them isn't easy.
@@SaabDr thanks for the reply. They are certainly the nicest looking version on that chassis. Seeing a lot with rust issues, so ziebart would be a good idea. Looking forward to seeing how yours runs afterward! Might have to get one to tow the vert to SOC? Lol....
@@MassiveTrackHunter I think most of them are unfortunately past the point of ziebart helping. Mine has a small rust bubble on the quarter and a bit on the hood edge that I'm going to need to tend to.
Joe what do you do for a living? Are you this brave because you are a professional? I ask because I would like to think that a regular guy can do the things that you do. You are my hero. Saab on.
I'm just a regular guy -- not a professional mechanic. I'm very mechanically inclined for sure, but didn't go to school for it . Definitely things any regular guy could do. :-) And for the record I'm in sales, have been for the last 16 years but at one point in my life I did contemplate going to school to become a mechanic and my Grandfather talked me out of it.
Just do your homework ahead of time like Joe does. Print out the instructions if it is a lot of steps. Take pics as you go. Bag and label the bolts and parts. Have a good place to work inside when tearing open a motor. Anyone that can follow directions, can do it. It is sooo worth it, pride in ownership and knowledge. :-)
I just did 2 AFM/DOD deletes! 2007 Avalanche I used almost the same kit you did with TSP "stage 2" cam. We also have a 2009 9-7X 5.3 and I just finished it as well. I went a different route with Attitude v3 cam and supporting mods. I like your video brother, I'll subscribe. It would be cool if you would check out my vids. Take care buddy.
Hi I have a 2008 5.3 97x . It has random misfire only on bank one , it just started out the blue one day. Some of the symptoms are a loss of power and also the engine light will flash. Sometimes the reduce power light. When I ran for codes p300 came up which I know is a random misfire but I can't figure out what's causing the random misfire.
I could make every excuse in the book, but honestly I just haven't gotten back to it. I had it 75% edited and my laptop crashed and since then I've just been frustrated with editing long videos. I'll put it to the front of the line -- I have two really long and older videos to edit.
we have the same issue and been to 3 places including the dealer, no one can fix it, it shows many codes they said. it is the 2008 97x 4.2 inline 6 with 97k miles. i've been driving around with the stabitrak button pressed off but it will still bog down if you get on it to fast and too soon. my wife is afraid of it and it's her car, we hate to get rid of it.
Results were good, part 2 is being edited and should be coming out in the next few weeks. I got really backlogged with life and have been editing shorter videos since this is a really big project. I will say that it's coming out for sure.
@@SaabDr thanks you! I recently purchased a used saab from a friend and it has the low oil pressure and mosy certainly is a bad dod lifter so I was looking for more info
I'd start with pulling the oil pressure screen to see if the pressure jumps up. That's normally the first thing to check to make sure the engine is actually making proper oil pressure.
WARNING!!! Will need popcorn. That's a good thing. 👍
FYI: if you are reusing the water pump, you can leave the fan on and just take the entire pump and fan off together. That’s how I’ve always done it.

Does the saab 9-7x have a cabin air filter? I was just wondering because im getting weak air flow out of my vents.

@ 9:06 "Stepbrothers" reference! Love it
Did you have any problems getting the driver side header in place? Did you install from top down or from the bottom up?
You need a c clamp for the clutch fan and that’s all man just that and a big adjustable crescent wrench
My #6 lifter went dead as well, i just said fudge and put a new engine

Replace the clogged catalyc converter . Mine has same issue i couldnt figure out until thta was replaced p0300 only one side
Part 2 ? I’m doing the exact same thing.
AMAZING!!
part 2 of this i’m curious of how it came out !!!
Exactly what im sayin

If there's no Part 2, do you mind at least doing a shirt video on how it came out in sound and performance with the Mods?
I have the same 9-7x but I have an issue with it. It keeps on showing a sevice stabilitrak and I was wondering if you know what it means ?
Probably a wheel speed sensor. I know that mine needs one. The best way to diagnose is with a tech 2.
thanks
Also check the transfer case actuation servo. I heard those can fail, causing 4wd engagement issues.

I didn't. And it really could have used one. 🤣
