Walter McLean, nah it’s called using your resources & being smart. I would’ve done the same thing if I didn’t have one on my knohlers cuz it’s way easier than just a nut.
I installed one of these about 2 years ago on my sons John Deere 210 and we haven’t had any trouble at all with it. This transdencer is HIGHLY recommended. Great video Taryl. Please keep those awesome videos coming our way. Love you guys
"Captain, Taryl is pushing Snowzilla to the limits, she's gonna blow!". "Just get that Transgender to Taryl as soon as possible Scotty, that's an order". "Captain don't you mean Transdenser?"
My 1976 Wheel Horse C 120 has a condenser and the original set of points! Guess I'm lucky to have an everlasting K motor. Thanks for the info about the Transdenser, though at this point, (no pun), I'll probably go bad before the tractor.
man thats a hot product for sure ! He needs ta make em for car coils for the guys who wanna keep their classic cars as close to stock as possible .And the timing light feature is a bonus.Real slick for sure !!
Im always having to clean and adjust my kohler points. I was thinking of rigging up some kind of switching transistor so the points wouldn't have to carry the load. I guess great minds think alike. As usual the captain takes credit for what his chief engineer probably did. ;) Lol Great video, thanks for the info Taryl
Put a set of the old Kirk Engines Point Saver on my model 71 about 20 years ago, mow the big back yard with it during midwest mowing season, starts first time, guess I should clean the dust off the points at some point. Never checked the timing, probably won't. Money well-spent!
Thats why they call your show "Taryl Fixes All" lol working on my old craftsman mower it had same issue burning points put the transistor2 on it but dummy me. I forgot the ground. Thanks again
Used an old Heathkit add on CDI that I bought for a buck or two at a car swap meet for years on my Bolens with a K341 with zero issues. In the mean time, ran across another brand CDI and bought it, and finally the Heathkit one died. Swapped out for second one, and it ran ignition for several more years. But when that went out, had nothing but trouble going back running on stock points ignition. Found another swap meet buy, a MSD 6D, called them for correct wiring diagram, but found out it was bad (why someone SOLD it in the first place at swapmeet). Somewhere I've got another MSD, and that's what's going to be the 'points saver' for my old Kohler.
Cool to see a video about that; I installed one of kirks transdensers on my onan-powered sears a few years ago. Like you said Taryl, runs better and you practically never have to mess with the points again.
Man, that seems handy. I'll have my first Kohler Series 2 (17HP), off a 1980's? Ford LGT17H I invested in since had no idea there was a YT16 looking design with the old Jacobson Peerless 2500 that I hope's not a piece of crap. Definitely will be doing some welding work beyond what I was thinking to beef up a little more. Man, still a heavy build and thinking I'll have hauled in three more trips with the Prius... if not two.
Do a eBay search for “Transdenser” and “Transjender” comes up every time. Way to go Fee-Bay! I did purchase two of these last week for the two Arens GT 17’s that I have. The points ark like crazy on those engines and they are hard starting when cold. I checked voltages and tried different condensers, lined the point contacts so they fit completely flat against each other when closed. They still arc like crazy and quickly pit. Hoping that these Transdensers will fix the problem.
Tarl , great video. So when this whole internet/ computer crap started! I called it inner web! People looked at me like ...... ...,... ! Hearing you do it's soooo amazingly funny!
On Transdenserism: I got nothing against Transdenser tractors, but I don't think they should be competing in tractor pulls with OEM condensers. It's just not fair.
Taryl Point and question about the points. Plus a few other questions. The main problem with points is that they corrode and you cannot place oil on them to prevent corrosion. If you do so it causes problems. Questions? (1) Can you put oil, or some sort of anti-corrosive compound on the points using this setup. If you can I would think that the points would without a doubt last the life of the machine (2) I have a couple of old Cub Cadet 125's that are so old that they don’t have the window to set the points. How would you set the timing on an engine of this vintage ? They are so old that they are actually Starter/Generator engines. (3) I noticed that your engine has a light knocking noise as does mine. Is this a pretty common thing ?
Good morning , I am working on a Kohler 17hp twin cylinder model KT17S Spec 24304 , is there any way to determine what year it is ? Customer brought it to me and it is in sad shape. No spark , no compression on right cylinder. It is mounted on an old welder
They Sure make a Big Difference !! by the way, kirk's engine website is upgrading, will only be back online to order March 13 /2021 , Unless you call them i guess~! ;-)-
@tjrick7745 a high speed switching transistor would even work. I suspect that's all a points saver is, built into a self contained heatsink. Do a Google search, tons of conversions posted. I know for a fact the GM modules work, I've done it to a Bolens tractor. Good luck on your project!!
I'm guessing, but I'm betting the "Transdenser" takes the place of the points electrical ckt for charging the coil and then the existing mechanical points just become the on/off switch for the "Transdencer".
pretty much spot on with your description. 30 years ago i built an electronic ignition for my 1977 Mazda 808, one day the car just stopped while driving, the points had totally closed because i neglected to oil the cam and the little block on the points wore down. the module re-energises the coil 5 milliseconds after discharge, giving a hotter spark due to longer charge time on the coil.
Hey taryl ima put a new headgasket on this husqvarna concrete saw engine im rebuilding i dont know which sealer to put on the headgasket i wanna put sealer on it since its a chinese rebuild kit.
After the second car swap meet add on CDI unit finally died on my K341, I tried just what you mentioned, and it wasn't any better on the standard points set up. Back to dressing points after 47 minutes of use. Even tossed on couple extra condensers and same results. Need to find MSD 6 somewhere out in my storage.
@@marvinheemeyer9768 , Im now convinced you are right. The transistorized points is the way to go. His transdenser design is a winner. Im going to buy a few.

We are the only owners my dad bought and 69 I have done all the maintenance I bought a set of points for it and never installed them because It always rain strong.
will you do a carb tune video on the kohler magnum series? i have an 18hp that im having a little troble leaning out, smokes a little black when it revs
All this shows me ,is once again the small engine mechanics around me are only interested in changing parts.I have yet to find one mechanic with the knowledge Tarly has.Just once I would love to hear how they could fix it,instead of why they can’t.

I love the drywall anchor as a wing nut for the air cleaner.

The sound fx when taryl said crappy is hilarious.
Thank you Taryl for selling me the points saver fella. I look forward to seeing the difference Sir.

I bought one 2 years ago it's working awesome
I already spended about $2 hundred on new parts for mine
Do you have the link for it?

Interesting. Thanks for sharing!
fire it up, fire it up
David Kirk is "THE MAN", and knows the "K" engines VERY well. Check his "Killer Kohler" engine out. I love the Trandensor on mine.
Good points taryl
Pretty cool
Mind me asking, why not just replace the points with a electronic ignition module or is that not possible on a K Engine?
Been using Dave’s products for years, since the old IHCC Forum days!

An older style Dodge ignition box will work the same, as well as a GM HEI module from a 70's car works good too, and cheaper!!

Or you could fit an external Ballast resistor in series with the coil if it's value is under 3 ohms !
It'd be nice if it mounted down by the hole to the fly wheel. So you could actually use it as a timing light as it was running.
You can ad wire to it so you can do that i could do it

Hi my 3.5 classic Briggs and Stratton but it has a knocking sound what should I do repair it or buy a new engine
That’s one of those “why didn’t I think of that!” excellent ideas.
Neat .Thanks T haven’t heard about that .
this was very interesting
Is there a reason why there is no link to the product purchase site ?
Cool beans
Ok the points will last forever but how long will the Transdenser II last?????
Are the Kirk engine guys still in business? I tried contacting them via their website (which is still up), but I've not gotten any replies.
He should do a rebuild video on that engine
hey kirk i need a transdenser for my VW bug. heh heh
Are those dentures antique?

Had a few with only this problem.
Gonna get one of them.

Sadly cannot find this for sale on their website anymore :/
Does it give it transwarp drive?
Brilliant!
😱 Something new ... with flashing lights ... Hot Dog
Lol yes I also like the flashing light
If its grounded with to were the coil is screwed in why you need to hook up a ground wire to it then it'll be grounded twice
sounds like the Onan points timing is simpler than the older Techumseh timing
kirk engine's website is currently under maintenance till saturday march 13. unable to view their products
