He's not a bad guy, just an addict. This was actually hard to watch. It's so much easier when they're complete aholes. He needs help and I really hope he gets it. He deserves it.
There is plenty of help for addicts here in Wisconsin nowadays and rarely do addicts get turned away when seeking it. The sad part is, addicts were put on LOOONG waiting lists up to a few years ago and many still think its the same way. I pray for all those who need the help and love and support.
@@elizabethgrogan8553 yea its totally a drug but a natural one like alcohol , cocaine and opium so people who dont think that make no sense. But I still believe no plant/chemical should be illegal for consumption as long as you do it in private and not drive.
When he said, "I hope I'm not being difficult", I actually felt bad for the kid. He was about the least difficult person I've ever seen on these videos.
This was me pretty much about 3 years ago. Got hooked on painkillers in college and couldn't shake it for 8 years. High functioning, law abiding addict but my life sucked though. Thankfully I got busted at work and was essentially forces to pick to go into treatment or hit the streets and I picked the first option. I'll have 3 years this May and couldn't be more grateful
this was me as well, got busted driving under the influence of heroin. i got arrested, and although a year later it was declared reckless driving, i still learned my lesson and even got clean. i went to treatment a week after my arrest.
Congratulations and I’m proud of you! I’m four years sober now. I got prescribed anxiety medication and I instantly became addicted and it got out of control. I got arrested for DUI and it instantly woke me up, Iv been clean ever since.
Ive never met an addict who wanted to be an addict. It affects people from EVERY walk of life. From Judges to soccer moms and all in between. Drugs turn great people into the sketchy people that our parents warned us about. Big Pharma is 95% to blame for it.
@@bt10ant His decision endangered few lives. How many cars did you see go by during the entire stop? Wisconsin is not a very populated state and it’s clearly late out. That doesn’t excuse what he did but he is mostly a danger to him self
I hope the judge on his case sees the footage and how genuinely kind and cooperative Ian was, and gives Ian the option to go through a rehab program rather than felony charges. Misdemeanor sure, but I think he really deserves treatment over punishment. Such a nice soul. Hope you get clean Ian!
This it what it looks like when you’re willing to take accountability for your actions. Granted he was acting weird but hey he was high and heartbroken at least he treated the officers respectfully and now hopefully gets treatment
Yeah I agree and they helped him out by not towing his vehicle. He was honest with them he didn’t do any of the “I’m going to get you fired” or the name calling he broke the law he will have some consequences hopefully he gets sober but this is how easy and smooth an arrest should be. 9.3g of heroin is no little bag either that’s a good amount Theres people who would have led police on a high speed chase or shot at them for that much dope

Why do you think this? Why do you think a dui charge is any different than another dui charge? He's going to be convicted of dui just like ANYBODY else regardless of how him or the others acted.
@@7u655 why make up a scenario? He was driving while intoxicated putting the public at risk. He wouldn't admit to police that he was high and hid drugs from them. That really happened and is enough to make him an asshole. Even if he was a violent guy, he still wouldn't seem like the type. He's just a polite drug addict, it's not surprising that people would root for him.
I would love to see an update on him. This arrest was sad to watch. He seems like a genuinely kind person, very respectful, honest… addiction doesn’t discriminate. I hope this gave him a wake up call and he has a good support system. I’d love for him to be sober now. If he’s ever watching this video, and I’m sure he will, know that me and the majority of those commenting here want the best for you. ❤️
This video should be used as a tutorial video for cops and civilians on how to interact with each other. Both parties acted like adults this was refreshing to watch.
The justice department has been sponsoring video allover Ytube which people think are just wee channels with an interest. They sponsored the show Cops with the exact same purpose, so don't worry it's been in hand for decades
This kid is the most polite person I’ve ever seen get arrested. He seems like a good guy that has a real addiction problem. Treatment, rather than jail, would be the right thing to do. As a recovering opiate addict myself, I completely understand what he’s going through and it’s tough. Really tough. I finally got my shit together many years ago and I hope he does the same!
I have a feeling u are not and addict. Never have been. Have no one close to you ever an addict. Please unless you have walked the walk. Try not to comment. Addiction is something unless you have experience in one way or another you will never fully understand the actions of or behaviour of someone who does have an addiction. Always remember the person is never the same as the addict in them. They are two different people in one body and mind. NO ONE EVER WANTS TO BE AN ADDICT! 😢
This is one of the first code blue videos I've seen where I genuinely feel bad for the guy. What a nice a respectful guy. Drug addiction is hell, I hope this was a wake up call for him and that he got clean!
I was NOT expecting that walking in a straight line to go that badly. I was shocked 😂 He seemed so level headed and was conversing pretty well, and then he couldn't even take one step without falling over.
I know! I was shocked! I've seen other videos where the driver was drunk and walking a straight line. Then on the other hand herion and other drugs will impair one's balance. My mother is on prescription narcotics and she doesn't overuse them and yet, she still can get impaired. She's fallen off her bed just by taking it before bed! So, imagine the stuff you get off the street! Must really mess one up!
Me either! Lol that was epic fail . No doubt about it drunk. Before that though I was like yea this dude is good just having a rough night with the girlfriend lol
I’ve seen one of these where the guy was on shrooms and I walked the line *absolutely perfectly*. Still got arrested from the totality of the situation tho
Dear Ian, I’m rooting for your sobriety soon buddy, you seem like a great guy in the grips of a deadly disease, better known as addiction. Hope ya get the help you need. Sincerely, A lot of us :)
Anyone that puts others lives in danger by selfishly choosing to drive intoxicated is the opposite of a "great guy"... He was ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL... If he ran over and killed a child would you still think of him as "great guy" ? Think about it. Judge them for their actions - not the consequences of their actions.... And addiction is not a disease. I have cancer - I cant just wake up one day and decide to no longer have cancer. Addicts can choose to stop using. Addiction is a choice. Not a disease...F*ck you for saying it is.
@user-us3pw2ir9qthere’s a path for you too. i know there is. i know it won’t be easy and it’s very easy for me to say but i’ll be thinking of you often. i pray the best for you.
This is how all cops should handle people who comply and are honest. Respect to all those involved and I hope the kid can get to a rehab center before it’s too late
Yeah man, any adult knows when it's time to cut the act & just be honest & accept responsibility for your actions. Cops will normally respect you once you show respect to them. Allthough the people who try to hide drugs until the strip search are pretty hilarious because they will always get caught but then get a bunch of extra charges thrown in there for being dumb lol
Almost all police DO respond this way to people who are compliant and honest. Every blue moon you just get an asshole, but a lot of times some police just come from a crash or something involving the use of drugs or booze and what they see, the innocent people that got hurt, kind of pisses them off. They're human. I wouldn't have been upset when I got caught up for similar shit if a cop was rude to me, maybe initially I would but you never know the kind of shit police have just seen before responding to you. That's why you just be calm, accept it, and if it's unjust fight it in court.
They usually do. Body cams may make it so being polite is de facto part of the job, but a lot of them are genuinely people. Respect has to be mutual to exist at all.
Nah they’ll just send him too jail like the rest of them, so when they get out they will just go back too doing what they got caught for. It’s a cycle. JAIL ISNT A REHAB FACILITY. JAIL IS FOR CRIMINALS NOT ADDICTS BUT YANNO AMERICA IS CERY STRANGE …
Driving under the influence is wrong and so dangerous. That being said, I just really want to give this kid a hug and tell him that he is worth so much more and I hope he gets clean and lives a long, happy, healthy life.
Good luck living a happy life with a felony. There is no reason this man should be a felon from this incident. If drug were decriminalized, they might be taking him to a rehab for help instead of ruining his life with charges and jailtime.
@@prestontable heroin is one of the most dangerous drugs on the planet. Plus he is driving under the influence which you know could lead to a crash and the death of himself and the others involved. A drug like Marijuana should be legal but a deadly drug like heroin shouldn't. They should get help but driving under the influence risked their lives and others if they crashed. Thats why I believe they still should be charged especially because driving under the influence is one of the most common causes of car crash deaths.
@@chasem8898just FYI, decriminalized =/= legalized. Anyways, obviously DWIs are very serious and people need to be punished for it. However, much fewer DWIs would occur if there were places where addicts could legally receive and use certain drugs under supervision. In those cases, one would use methadone instead of heroin, though. Those centers are great for preventing ODs, for providing addicts with information and help to fight their addiction and for keeping high people out of pubic spaces and roads. On top, I would say that people deserve a second chance after they have overcome an addiction. There are many people out there who committed a whole bunch of minor offences in just a couple of weeks or months, while being addicted. After getting clean, they never do anything again. Once they have proven that they can stay off those substances for a few months or a year or whatever, those prior convictions should be handled like probation. (I'm obviously not talking about violent crime.)
@@chasem8898 I didn't say they should be legal. I said they should be decriminalized. The consequences of possessing heroin are more severe than a DUI. Some states recommend 1-5 years jailtime for a simple possession charge, and that is not right. He should most definitely be in jail for a DUI, but possessing heroin will completely ruin his life. He will lose the right to vote and own weapons, and he would be fortunate if his state allows him to regain his rights. We outlawed substances to protect society from addiction, but we do not help the people who's lives have ruined by this affliction.
This is tough to watch because you can tell he is a good person that needs help. I'm a former heroin user that got arrested for the first time for drugs years ago. At the time I thought my life was ruined but it turned out to be a blessing because it led to me getting help and getting off drugs. I hope and pray that this event leads this young man to getting help rather than getting deeper into addiction with a growing arrest record.
Opiates don't give a single shit who you are, who you were, how smart you are, how well-liked you are, how much of an upstanding citizen who was well-liked by their community and contributed well to it, etc. It doesn't matter. Anyone can go down that road. The people who just dabble and think they're special are in for a really bad ride once they find out they weren't "special". Drug addiction isn't a choice, what it is? It's a very long series of hundreds of very small compromises we make with ourselves. It will take everything. The logic in the brain changes. It is a medical issue. Addicts need that like you need water. It's pure survival, and will lose everything trying to just survive. It's kind of interesting....When I was never an addict before I would always look at those people, shake my head, and wonder how anyone could let that happen to their life....I thought I was smarter than them and understood the philosophy of it all better than they did. I thought it was simple common sense and mind over matter.... What I learned though is that I was completely wrong. It's not the addict that wasn't smart and didn't understand it, it was those who have never been that are truly incapable of understanding it. I'm serious, once you're on it your mind doesn't work the same as it did before. It will make you feel a sadness and devastation that is so low that you never knew your mind was capable of producing such horrible feelings. Take it from someone who was well educated, made 6 figures, had a beautiful home, a gorgeous wife, badass cars, music gear, whatever toys I wanted, and lost it all. There's nothing you can ever possibly say to an addict or mentally beat them down worse than they've already said and done to themselves. No...The non-addict doesn't get it, they aren't capable of getting it, it's a sad and lonely existence. They are everywhere too....There are many years of "functioning" when one is an addict. They could be that cop who arrests this "nice guy too bad he's an addict" to the judge that this guy sees the next morning. Your next door neighbor, your close friend, your boss, anyone. I'm rambling now, lol.... Anyways, hope I've enlightened at least someone... Cheers!

Just because someone’s passed out doesn’t mean they’re close to ODing… you pass out for many reasons, drugs themselves can make you “zonk out” which means you’re just hardcore sleeping which was most likely what happened when he was passed out, he wasn’t actually passed out as in medical danger, just heavily asleep. Trust me I live in a city where you see people passed out everywhere due to drugs, it doesn’t always mean it’s an OD, a lot of the time it’s just the drugs making them tired because a lot of that crap is cut with tranc aka tranquilizer which knocks you the fuck out, you go to sleep real quick lol. Also if you read the description he wasn’t actually passed out, he was “falling asleep” at an intersection which means I’m probably right in what I said, he did something with a lot of tranc & he was starting to doze off, happens A LOT in my city, my best friend is a cop & it happens a lot in my city.

It’s really only oral, intranasal, and intravenous opioid administration that results in there being enough in the user’s bloodstream that their respiration continues to further decline even after initially nodding out-since in those cases, a large amount of the drug enters the user all at once and is already all in their body if they should happen to have taken too much. But i heard of people who went to jail for years for carrying drugs for personal use, that ain’t gonna really help and addict really and probably ain’t the type of “punishment” they need.

That shits a two way street

Tbh though this dude seems like such a kind hearted genuine human being.
Cheers!

@@rileystone3017 People make dumb mistakes, especially addicts. but it doesn't mean they're necessarily at their core bad people. morality is not black and white, just like the circumstances that lead up to an opiate addict driving while nodding off isn't usually just black and white. you're right he did something incredibly careless. but he's not some permanently evil guy for this. people can change, but they certainly won't with no support.

Seeing the mutual respect between the officers and him just shows there ARE good in all walks of life, this all or nothing judging is ignorant.
He was the most chill relaxed driving under the influence person, no resisting arrest, honest and owned up to his faults. Just imagine how compliant others can be and things would run a lot smoother and without force.
If humans were more predictable like him I'd say officers would never have to use force. People try way too hard to self preserve

You can tell this addiction makes him do the opposite of every instinct he has to be a non-dangerous member of society. Still, driving under the influence is a serious crime, and I hope he's able to use his sentencing as an opportunity to get back on the right track.

That guy was about as nice as possible given he was getting arrested, calm the whole time and respectful. That has to be rare in police work.
Aww, this guy was so nice. He knew he’d done wrong and was super polite to everyone. Even to the point of immediately collecting together his paperwork, asking how he should get out of his car so he didn’t appear threatening, keeping his hands out of his pockets, telling where the drugs were, and asking if he was cooperating correctly and enough.
Honestly, I can just imagine when those cops talk about him in the future, they’ll refer to him as their career “Unicorn” or their “Holy Grail.”
I truly hope he gets help because he seems like a genuinely nice, empathetic and compassionate guy that just got caught up in addiction. He was obviously raised right, just got derailed. We need people like him desperately in today’s world. Can you imagine what an awesome doctor, nurse, veterinarian, judge or teacher he’d be? His ability to keep it together in a stressful situation (while drugged!), be honest and forthcoming, and concerned about the cops was staggering. Once he gets it together, it’s easy to imagine him being super successful in his life with a wonderful wife, house, and kids. Just gotta get clear of the stupid drugs.
C’mon, fella! Spread those amazing wings and don’t look back. All you have to do is choose. Then, you’re the very definition of a Phoenix rising from the flames!! We’re all rooting for you!!!

She had SO much potential. She was SO talented (a gorgeous model, a champion swimmer, fluently spoke two languages). She had SO much to give and had only started to do so. She was against drugs and took the infamous “not me” approach. Pretty sure she was dosed by her despicable ex fiancé who’d been sniffing around again. One drug we believe he forced on her was cocaine that was unknowingly laced with fentanyl. She never woke up again. I’m sure she never dreamed when she fell asleep that night, that over the next days her funeral would be planned. That I would have to clean out her apartment on my birthday or that I would be taking to my home her beloved 14 year-old dog and 2 year-old cat. That I would be calling her boss to explain she wouldn’t be coming in ever again. I pray this young man realizes that the drugs affect his entire family, not just him.)

Man tbh that cop may have saved guys life that night if people seen him passed out he probably at first was close to od...hope he gets the help he needs

You were right,@@MsNoPixel. Don’t listen to this asshat. I’m also an EMT and have been for much longer than this idiot and I know as well as you that heroin and fentalogues, especially when smoked the way he was using them, are almost impossible to overdose on via that ROA by any user with a tolerance, because too big of a hit just makes the user doze off, at which point the drug level in their blood immediately begins dropping until they snap back awake. Whereas with smoking, they only consume a small amount at a time. Give this rookie Basic EMT (which literally only requires a month of training to get your certification, “those of us with medical training” my ass) some time to advance to EMT Intermediate or Paramedic and maybe they’ll stop talking like they know about stuff they don’t. Or who knows, maybe they’ll be one of those lifer EMT-Bs who works their whole career on that one single month of training and tiny incremental raises on their $24K starting base pay, trying to make up for the sense of financial inadequacy and the expertise they don’t have by trying to shut down people who *do* know what they’re talking about on the internet?
