I can't believe I voted for this mayor on a platform of clean energy, only for him to turn around and build coal plants a mere eighty four years into his first term.
I really dislike the coal power plant in SC4. You know, even Battersea powerplant in London already had scrubbers back in the 1930s and did not emit soot into the atmosphere. I always wanted to make a BAT scrubber annex (like SimCity 5 style) to the coal powerplant. Scrubs the air and it generates revenue - that's right. In real life coal scrubbers use limestone to capture the sulphur and turn into gypsum for making plaster, and the ash can be turned into bricks.
i love all these simcity challenges, because it seems like no matter what it is they wind up independently re-creating the arc of 20th century american urban development
You have reached a very important insight about Sim City! From this, you could come to related conclusions regarding other popular games, if you were so inclined.
I know this is meant to be a funny observation but it turns out this is true--SimCity was designed to run by 1980's standards of manufacturing and social progress. You literally CAN'T win the game without exploiting an impoverished underclass and then gentrifying the fuck out of it
Ambiguousamphibian is so good at “challenge runs/starts” that even his UA-cam channel growth was insanely efficient. Congrats on the 1M and keep up the great content.
it honestly is. And it doesn't just affect edges when you hit it. It demolished my MLB stadium and all of my monorail stations even though they were no where near the edge of the map. It's really is the "f*** it, I'm bored" button.
The beginning made me really appreciate the kind of subtle storytelling that can be done with simply the geography you create in a fictional world. Taking the time to make it a volcano that eroded rather than just raising the ground up. It's the little things.
I started classes today and my sociology teacher sounds exactly like you so I imagine his lectures about culture and society as a sims video of yours and i have to admit it makes the class more interesting
I know a lot of gaming youtubers with amazing voices but no one has a voice so hauntingly beautiful, flowing like an endless stream of melancholy and yet strangely energized. AA should be narrating Gothic novels but here we are
I find it hilarious how often in city builder games the only available mode of personal transportation is cars on paved roads, even when the island you're building on is so tiny you could cross it foot in minutes.
Id like to see a tiny island run again, but it has to stay a kind of small island, like 20x20 squares in size or something. Just to see how high tech and big you can make it.
You can tell when AA's doing a seablock (adjacent) challenge by how unhinged he sounds in the first few seconds of the video. That "ChAlLeNgE eVeRyThInG" told me all I needed to know.
I don't know what kind of person I am for laughing so hard at the end, really enjoyed this "island" challenge. A big congratulations on 1 million, very well deserved.
Showing the mistakes really makes it clear how hard it is to finish these challenges. Sometimes when watching someone who knows how to deal with certain conditions makes it looks far easier than it really is.
This was by far the best 'blowing air out my nose under great pressure' video of yours I have seen in a little bit. Loved it. Also, your EA voiceover in the beginning was stunningly perfect.
I would enjoy watching you play openttd changing a small, mountainous island into the most efficient system physically possible to cram in such a small space
Poetic, Funny, Political, Nostalgic, Entertaining... All carried by great narration and script. Genius work right there, thanks, I love those, keep'em coming!!!!
Big shouts for reaching the fabled one million subscribers, Ambiguous Amphibian. Your content is refreshingly chaotic with a very special twist bespoke to you. While I ask that you keep this awesome content coming, remember to do so at a pace that feels comfortable to you. I’ve seen far too many UA-camrs “take a break” due to fatigue or burnout, only to never return. Just take care of yourself. People like me will be happy to wait.
The subtext to this video is amazing. The transition from agriculture to the industrial revolution, the inability to give up dirty industry just to enrich ourselves, the eventual comeuppance from rising sea levels… beautifully executed.
Man, I always perceived you as a niche Zomboid UA-camr, crazy that you're already at 1 million. You deserve it though, keep up the good content and stay ambiguous
I don't know why, but I really enjoy your 10 minute video format. Nice little entertaining bite sized videos that are easy to digest and leave the viewer satisfied, and possibly questioning the meaning of life afterwards. Good stuff 🐴👍
I still love this game so much. As old as it is now, the music, atmosphere, mods, and just how much of an open city building game it was makes this still one of the best city building games of all time!! It is so intrinsic and complex!!! It's still amazing! SimCity 4 will always and forever be in my heart, memory, and my childhood. :)
I love @ambiguousamphibian sultry voice and educated vernacular that gives his videos a sense of alleviation. Even though his videos are comprised of despondency.
Pollution in EVIL, so anyways I taxed the poor and dirty and burned down a block, then changed my mind about pollution anyways. Good to have a new AA video. Also, congrats on a million bro!
Love your videos yo, my favorite SimsCity game is still "Societies" I absolutley loved laying buildings down specifically one at a time rather than by sections. It actually gave more realism when it comes to city layout; & the I absolutley love the different types of cities you could make. I really wish someone would come out with a new version of it.
Just discovered your channel today and I’m so happy I did. It’s so entertaining and I could easily see you working in land development/city planning based off of this and your rollercoaster typhoon vid
Maybe this comment will not be read, but thank you. I've been sick since a few days and I'm listening to all your videos. They have been a great help to keep me smiling ♥
I love how you always say “so I demolished them with everyone still inside”, while other players often say stuff like “I’m sure we gave plenty of notice for them to evacuate… probably”. I also respect the shameless use of the “so I left it running when I went to bed and hoped it wouldn’t crash” tactic. I’ve used it myself many times, though I sometimes challenge myself to only ever let time pass if I’m actively playing. Maybe that would be an interesting challenge for you some time!
Stumbling upon your videos was one of the best things that happened in my journey though UA-cam. Your narration combined with nostalgic strategy games and witty jokes is something strangely soothing. Hopefully you can extract more juice out of Sim City and other Sim games for our entertainment. You have become my Sim drug dealer. Congrats on the million subscribers! By the way, did you play Sim Coaster? I had fun with that.
I love these Sim City vids. I played this game so much as a kid, and these videos are a perfect mix of AA's halarious and clever storytelling, and raw nostalgia 👌
honestly i always felt like i wouldnt like city or rollercoaster sims but you make it look the most fun ever. guess i’m waiting for the next steam sale lmao
I remember back in the day I would bring one floppy disk to school with me each day to fill with custom buildings and mods just for this game. It was just endless fun
aww, I feel like ambiguousamphibian understands me, as a youtube viewer, so well after seeing this video! 15/10 would watch a million more videos from this channel, lol.
It's insane to think that this game is so old. I remember barely being able to play this at stable frame rates on my old pc as a kid. The music in this game is unforgettable & it's unfortunate that this is the last good Sim City
Took me a second for my brain to recall what 'Reconcile' was, and then I gasped. Daring move, AA, may the souls of your citizens not haunt you forevermore.
Unofficially, thanks for a million subscribers! I love you
And we love you too, frog man!
Good job. 👍
Congrats amphib! You deserve it man your vid’s are amazing!!

I do appreciate how ominous "reconciling the edges" sounds. Like it's truly some great, cataclysmic event.
