Pro tip if you want to go drifting: don't be broke
Honestly that same advice applies to any Motorsport I feel like, as the saying goes “racing is great way to turn a large fortune into a small one”
realistically you can have a car on track for around 3k-6k depending on the car, all you need is something with an lsd or weld the diff. low power and low angle teaches you so much
O yeah and live by a track.

I could be misunderstand what you meant. If so I’m sorry, but she doesn’t drive in dirt, she drifts on pavement in pro spec in formula drift. There’s 4 events a season for pro spec (at least this year) and then 8 events for pro.
She can drive. Nothing super speical yet but I feel like she has a ton of potential and can give any of the others a run for their money etc.
It didn’t even cross my mind but maybe she does race side by sides or something in the dirt too lol. If so whoops 🤣🙈

id definitely hope not, s chassis are great drift cars. you can beat on an sr and itll hold up well + they're light with huge aftermarket support.
@@qLxwisthey are great. But they're overrated. When Im seeing gutted out S chassis shells selling for $5000 without a rollcage. $13000 for an S13 thats not completely clapped out, this is ridiculous. You can get a mustang for $500 and its in about the same condition. They're in the same price range as Z cars that are 10-15 years newer.

I'm blessed enough to be 30 minutes from my local track, and just a few hours away from others
I live 20 mins away from Sonoma raceway

Best tip for someone wanting to get into drifting: Get yourself a pair of rich parents.

How to get into drifting:
Step 1: Have lots of disposable income, and I mean thousands of dollars, or even tens of thousands.
Step 2: Have tons of free time
Step 3: Have a truck and trailer, and a place to store them
Step 4: Have a decent sized garage and a place to work on the car
Step 5: Become a more than decent mechanic that can understand, take apart, and build suspension systems, engines, body frames, and pretty much everything else.
Step 6: Exist in a place where you can do all of this legally.
Step 7: Practice for years, buy cars, buy parts, buy tires, just about every problem you come across will need to have money thrown at it.
Step 8: Do some open track drift events
Step 9: Gauge your skill, money, time, against competitors
Step 10: Do some networking and build relationships
Step 11: Get in contact with sponsors and try to get some of them to sponsor you at events.
Step 12: Grind that until you get good enough to possibly take part in events that have cash prizes
Step 13: Travel to events across the country and even the world to compete
Step 14: Win and collect some sponsor cash and basically revolve your entire life with drifting.
So yea, drifting is either a middle class dedicated hobby, or a rich kid's hobby. I wouldn't suggest anyone to get into drifting unless you have a lot of skill and already doing it. A few of friends of mine are dead from drifting, it's a very unsafe sport, and really only drains your wallet for a few seconds of fun.
Race car drivers are usually really nice. I got talking to drivers at my local drag strip, even had a pretty long conversation with the owner of a jet dragster. Really nice dude even though i know nothing about cars, it was interesting hearing about how it all works

Always remember, people make drift cars because they usually WANT people to ask about them! For someone who had a car like that, I’d love it when people came up to me and asks questions about my build, it was always a special moment

Pro tip if you want to go drifting?
take your daily, go in the evening/ night on a weekend to an industrial area (also good when it rained before) and just try to get a feeling for your car when you’re going a little faster around a corner.

My local drifters are like timing bombs they legit go drift and sleep
If you look at them you'll be afraid they won't run you over
If take RDS drifters as an example, I can say that each person looks at drifting differently. I don't know how in other championships, but in RDS often beginners who just started their career take configurations from experienced drifters. But they drift badly with these configurations, and then they make their own configurations on which they drift confidently.

That is because it is a game of skill. If I tell you what my settings are. It's not going to let you beat me because only I know the way I drive. You have to get a baseline and adjust to your preference. If you look at the suspension settups in formula one. Some are loose, some are tight. Also they run more grip because they have a LOT more power. Go to an event with a manual rwd car that you don't mind or have the money to replace anything that goes wrong. Drifting is very hard on your car so no matter what you bring, you will have empty your wallet in maintenance and repairs. So take it slow and learn car control before you spend money on your dream drift car.

When your dad buys you and your brother drift cars and pays for you to be in FD, you don’t need local drift events.
The first tip for novice drifters: ride street. A lot of street.
The second (optional for countries with snow) advice for novice drifters: build a winter car for winter and ride it. Ride a lot.
