  • Welcome back to another 3 Minute Demo! Today I thought I'd showcase my Squier Archtop (model X155). This is a super fun guitar that you can still find on the used market for a fairly reasonable price. For the specs, you can check out this link: www.squierwiki.... (I have no affiliation with this website).
    This guitar has a really neat history -- It is basically a DeArmond hollowbody from the transition period after Fender bought the Guild brand. If anyone has any more information about this guitar, please feel free to include it in a comment below!

    What on Earth would be the idea of making this guitar with a rock hard maple top instead of spruce? My guess is because this will have a steam pressed arch, the harder wood lessens the certain risk of the arch sinking down over time, at the expense of fuller rounder tone.

      I don’t know if that is why, but it sounds like as good of an explanation as I could come up with!

      @@CodyJungGuitar I should have added "That's tight clean playing, man." p.s. I believe Fender have sold Guild on to Cordoba in Los Angeles. They're using far too much mahogany (like Gibson); wonderful wood.... for making wardrobes. And they've screwed up the Starfire V1. So far no show of the Artist Award/Johnny Smith/Patriot model.

      Thank you!! That’s very kind of you to say.
      That’s super interesting about Córdoba. I’ve been wanting one of the Johnny Smith Guilds for the longest time. I played one at Gruhn’s a few years ago, but didn’t have the money for it at the time. Still sad that one got away.

      Actually, I just got one & I’m blown away by how amazing it plays/sounds. Find one & you’ll see what I mean. I was shocked.

      It is thought in some circles that maple tops are the cats pajamas for guitars designed from the guit-go to be amplified. You know, feedback. Same for plywood tops, which are necessarily pressed. I cannot say for certain, but at this price point the X-155 woods are likely all ply. Again, I cannot claim certainty, but I have read that the venerable-ated ES-175 is made o' plywood. Very nice plywood which can, in fact, sound good.

    hello, I want to buy sguier x 155 and I didn’t find a video with distortion sound on UA-cam to listen to, could you help me send me a link to a video where sguier x 155 sounds distortion (sorry for my English, I am a refugee from Ukraine and I use google translate and I don't speak English well))

      @CodyJungGuitar  2 роки тому +1

      Hey! I think we can make that happen. Can you give me a little bit more info on what kind of distortion sound you’re looking for? ProCo Rat? Or overdrive like a tube screamer?
      Also, where do you want me to send the clip? Email?

    Nice playing. Sounds great. Is that through a stock blues junior?

    • @CodyJungGuitar
      @CodyJungGuitar  4 роки тому

      Yep! That's just a stock Blues Jr. I bought that amp to take on the road at a time when I didn't have much else. I planned on modding it, but never got around to actually making any changes.

    Are those stock pickups? I have an X-155 & they are the stock Squire “Duncan designed”pickups, but they don’t look like those

    • @CodyJungGuitar
      @CodyJungGuitar  3 роки тому

      Yep! They are the stock pickups that came with the guitar. Interestingly, I’ve seen pics of some with pickups like mine with the covers in them, then others with the pickups uncovered. I do not know if they just put what they had in, or if they made a decision at some point to switch.
