I've got a grey Tuffy as a tender with a 20hp re-propped Tohatsu and I love it. One up, above about 32kn it starts getting a wet ride due to the inbuilt trim in the hull it tends to push the bow down at high speed. I have got 44.8kn out of it during a fun shootout with some other tenders. I so agree with you about the bilge well needing to take a standard bilge pump as mine sits in the rain and its not practical to cover it so I put in an automatic bilge pump, which never quite gets the last water out due to it sitting high.
Love the stability of the boat which is orders of magnitude better than most small boats. Hearing you about the rash from inshore work but you can repair that easily with snow ski tech which has a similar base
If I didnt go to an aluminum custom tender if I upsized I would probably just go to the 4.1. Heavy boat but bulletproof
I had a early model with the old streak's on the outside not inverted, with a merq 25 hp 2 stroke did 28 knots flat out, so that shows how much they have altered the hull to suit larger outboards and higher top speed.
may be the divining down in due to a hook in the hull you have to be carful you keep them on the right trailer, still if it only happens at that speed it wouldn't matter what the cause.
still how some dealers stack them around theisr yards,.. seems they want them to get hull hooks in them.... inside other boats up against fences seen so truly horror placements in dealer yards,... by best was a mate that stored his on his workshop roof in red-hot cairns summer then complained about it trying to submarine,... just after planning speed.

Good review mate.. I agree with you.. it has limitations and could do with a couple of improvements, but man it’s a cool little fishing rig that I don’t think I’ll ever part with. What it can do (pros) outweighs the cons. I have the first model without the hatches and will add my own in time but make them sealed. Have build a casting platform that lifts for storage, power for Lowrance Elite 7 and lighting and charging, extra rod holders and the tuffy has been awesome for customising it to my needs. Wouldn’t like to drill holes in an ally, but happy to in the tuffy being dual skinned.

TYVM for the very informative and objective assessment of this craft (both the I love and I hate versions) and I hope the future iterations of the TUFFY will be a really way better version (with your ideas) for the price point...this can get people really interested in introductory boating :D...its cheaper than getting a family of 5 all i-phone 13s midline :D

I put it on the back on the truck, its a bit heavy but if it can handle this guy to sit on the side.. thats the stability weight. Use a low volt fish pump that will take care or it, if needed. You dont take not water proof stuff on a tiny boat like this, this is almost a teen/kid weekend fish boat, but hella safe

Hi guys I was just wondering if you tow your tuffy with the engine fitted?
I’ve had my poly for 3 months put a bilge pump in to day right over the top of the Center bung all you have to do is take one of the plastic legs of the bilge pump and it fits right on to the top of the channel leaving only a very small amount of water in the boat when you pump it out, they really need one. Also not happy with the floor l find it hard to balance on a sloping floor so I’ve made a templet tout of cardboard to cut out a marine ply floor, should work well with bilge and keep your feet dry especially in the winter.more ways then one to skin a cat 1200x1200 sheet of ply and two 30 x 25 batons one each side of the channel I’ve had a few boats in my time great little boat .

I think one of the problems with engineers and their missing obvious issues in design, is that a lot of them don't use similar products in real life. We see that all the time on boats and say, "No one, who has ever owned a boat, would design something like this."
Great points. I do however know that Steve from poly is an avid fisherman who is on the ball.
@@brenzfishing I love Steve he knows me as the fat bastard from the Johnstone river, but don't forget polycraft is a company owned by national plastics who make water tanks,.. and i swear blind some of that rubs of in their design. their is no other way to explain some of the mad stuff they have done over the years.
I am a hands in mecb engineer 32 yrs.. fix make anything. I have met so many engineers from overseas europe particularly. Fully qualified engineer top marks, never ever.worked on am engine!!!!!!!! Whats this, whats that, hiw does this work!!!!!!!!!
They sit behind computers in daddys mansion and never have ever owned a boat or ridden a.motorcycle , had their car licence 3 yrs. And designing parts for real life... scary hey !
A local bloke filled his up in Bass strait a few years back, just kept driving no problems at all back to Bridport tasmania.

Looking at getting a small boat for myself and the kids for spearfishing. We are wearing wetsuits whilst in the boat so getting splashed is no problem. I see they have would looks like a step on the back, how easy would they be to get in and out of? If you are not concerned about being wet could you get these a couple of Ks offshore okay in mild swell?
Awesome stuff Tim. Offshore no worries at all, infact check out the 5things I love. The step makes boarding a dream however the sides are low enough to get over anyways
could you add some keel tape to the bottom or sides where it gets scratched the most?

Hi guys, good vid made me laugh. I finally got mine and had two in the boat and took the centre bung out. Could not get more that 1litre of water in it..? So much inherent safety. We then bucketed it full to overflowing and it sat maybe two inches lower. Unsinkable all right. I also had mine made with level flotation.
These boats could not be safer to be honest mate.
true until inner skin fills up, then it will sink like a stone.
unless foam filled like this persons an mine. it is hard to imagine a case were water gets into inner cavity I know.... but it happens all the time.
think c.a.o.s theory. as stated else where all mine have sunk prior to the foam filled one I do, do thousands of hours in them so I see plenty of tings happen to them,... most will never see. but all i can say is foam fill... foam fill... foam fill. and wear the 20 kilo penalty.
and save yourself all the embarrassment.

Now I'm confused. I was thinking these may be a better alternative to a fishing kayak but now I think aluminium might better, even an aluminium kayak. If there is such a thing.

Poly Crafts are Ducks Guts for Fishing out of total Brilliant I’m looking for a 4.1 or 4.5 Polycraft they are heavier than Aluminium but So stable

I’m a huge fan of smaller vessels and have been fishing off a microskiff for a good 3 years (videos in my channel if you’re interested)
I’ve seriously been considering upgrading though I didn’t wanna lose the thrill of being towed by a fish mid fight and this seems like the ideal solution to that.
I enjoyed both videos and I wanna thank you for helping put these factors in to prospective.
Knowing the flaws makes me more comfortable with this boat than I was before watching your video.

Gday Alan. They are already over in the USA. Not too sure what parts at this stage but I think they are trickling in.
you might want to think about the longevity of the Polyethylene. My Poly kayaks have a life expectancy of 8 years if not cared for properly(UV Rays). UV will make the Poly brittle over time and an impact will then crack. We us (303 aerospace protectant).
G'day Dave will keep this in mind, there are some polys getting around that are 15 odd years old easily and still like new. They have the UV protection down pat.

So the Polycrafts are double hulled. What about water ingress between the two hulls? Obviously there are fittings on the boats...hulls being drilled through. I fear there could be possible water ingress issues between the two hulls, especially if poor sealing around the fittings or if the fittings/fasteners give way through use.

I don't like the way the inside of the boat is laid out at all. My Twin Troller X-10 is 10' long, by 4' wide. The 2 side trays running the length of each side are AWESOME. Each side tray is very deep, and each has 2 recessed reel pockets. Those 2 reel pockets in each side tray makes the fishing reel disappear BELOW the bottom of the side tray, so you can place 2 MORE rod & reels in each side tray, TOTALLY out of the way. That's 8 RODS total that I carry to go bass fishing in my Twin Troller. I can literally stand completely up on either side tray ( to take a leak over the side ), and the soles of my shoes aren't even touching my rods, let alone damaging them. The floor board of the Twin Troller is very narrow at only 20".......but I invented a portable, raised casting platform that is super easy & cheap to make. It's a total game changer for the Twin Troller X-10. Now you can stand with a much wider stance, and it's a foot higher than standing in the floorboard. It also doubles as the perfect work station/bench, a foot stool, and even as a seat, especially to sit on when lipping bass over the side. The twin Motor Guide trolling motor heads are recessed UP inside each pontoon, and are protected by aluminum grates that are flush mounted to the bottom of the hull. The twin pedals give you TOTAL hands free control while fishing. Hold perfect position in wind or current, go backwards, even spin a 360 on axis. NO other small fishing boat handles like the Twin Troller X-10. It can take up to a 3.5hp gas outboard, and runs about 8 mph with the outboard. That is the only downside to the Twin Troller, it's not very fast. But it still blows the doors off any kayak. The swivel seat ( 1 or 2 ) is elevated very nicely for all day comfort, and the seat towers are very sturdy. With the twin electric motors, the Twin Troller can run in ONLY 7.5 INCHES OF WATER. It blazes through lily pads and reeds easily. Lastly, you can't capsize the Twin Troller from inside the boat if you tried. It's also unsinkable.......even if the drain plug isn't installed. The floor will only take on about 4" of water, and the mass of the boat material takes over, and remains buoyant. I've owned my Twin Troller since October of 2016.......and I still love it. It's also a single piece roto molded poly-resin hull that will NOT dry rot.

@@brenzfishing Like the reviews you guys do , however in all fairness just a few points you made need to be corrected just so everyone watching this on UA-cam get the correct information 1) Trailers, pretty much every serious Boat Manufacture has a recommended trailer specifically designed for their hulls and also warranty conditions regarding the trailers. Polycraft goes one better and actually offers an extra 2 year warranty (50% more wty) on both the boat and trailer if purchased with a Polycraft recommended trailer . 2) Weight . its a 2 skin boat , so yes agree its heavier than a single skin Alloy hull .The Hull specs are available on all company literature for those who want to make an informed decision by comparing with other options if they require a car topper. In saying that the Tuffy can be car topped , its just heavier when compared to other 3 meter hulls 3) Rod holders , we actually have a tick the box option for rod holder caps as an accessory on a 300 Tuffy .If your distributor didn't take that option go to BCF and garb a couple as they off shelf items and install your self . Its a 5 minute job as all is required is to remove the 3 screws that hold the rod holders in .Also the comment about water getting up to the gunwale is totally unfounded , because if that's happening you shouldn't have a small boat in those sort of conditions and one would hope that common sense would be prevailing. As you pointed out the Tuffy a low sided hull design so its up to the user to recognize the limitations and make decisions based on that . 4) Marks on the boat , watch the Polycraft how to repair video ,those marks are easily buffed out using common tools like a grinder with a flappy disc and heat gun .Poly is easier and cheaper to repair then any painted or gel coated surface and both those materials also get scratched from barnacle's do they not ?. 5) Lastly bilge pump recess . The channel in the floor is not just a drain , its actually the required backbone of the hull and is fused to the outer skin to help give the boat strength and rigidity using a process called Kiss Off. In any case a bilge can be fitted to the existing floor in front of the transom just the same as every other boat on the market. I personally have used a bilge in my old Tuff Tender for 12 years and never had a problem using that method .
@@PolycraftBoats you stated that onpoint need to have correct facts. In a video that Polly craft created Steve stated that the boat is 105kg. Witch is incorrect as it's 108kg. Good on onpoint for pointing out issues and you as a company should be taking note and correcting issues witch will make your boats more desirable.
I've noticed Steve on a Facebook group telling people what they can and can not do with there Polly craft and causing issues. I feel if people wish to do some thing with there Polly that isn't correct to your standard or what not then having a sook about it just makes your company look like a bunch of dicks

Trailers- we simply pointed out that the criteria is more strict for a poly hull than any other hull material type- Correct as you have confirmed and as per your Ts & Cs
Weight- Exactly as mentioned once again, never was it suggested that it could not be cartopped, we merely just said it would not be our ideal choice, also mentioned was the correct weight of 108kg to save people having to find it online...
Rod holders- Sure we could zip down to BCF and sure we understand that it is an option but if you listen to the intro of the video it says 5 Things I hate about MY Tuffy, referring to the tuffy that I personally own. Totally unfounded, not really actually, read the other comments here and on various other social media outlets and you will see that this is well supported by other tuffy users leaving in-fact completely founded. I find myself perplexed with the common sense comment though as these boats originally where designed as a tender, What has me puzzled is that generally a "tender" is towed behind a larger vessel in sometimes very unfavorable conditions, are you perhaps saying that they should also not use this boat as a tender in these conditions and use common sense? We also touched on all of the hatches not being water tight as mentioned in one of your promotional video's as a perfect place to store personal items as they will stay dry. Please advise us of where we are going wrong here as nothing in them stays dry if water comes over the gunwhale, this is also the opinion and findings of many others.
Marks on the boat, we compared this to plate alloy not glass to start with, so for the sake of the reply lets keep it video related and comparable to a plate alloy boat. In comparison a plate alloy boat for what we do would be far stronger. To imply that every time we return from a fishing outing we must look over the whole hull, grind away some plastic with a flappy disk and heat it up to smooth it over is absurd, Infact what i need to do as a tuffy owner is take ownership for my actions and simply be more careful.
Now the big one, and one i have taken time to relax and think of for a fair while as telling us to stick to pest control was plain rude and honestly, I expected more from a fantastic company like poplycraft, but hey you said it so lets tackle it- Pesties yes, marine industry knowledge, probably exceeds most, you see we, as you know have many many years experience in the marine industry in many many areas including, yep, you guessed it, boat building and fabrication. You see for my whole life my family has been marine mechanics, boat builders, boat shop owners (perhaps the longest standing in W.A) and so on so i recon i could go toe to toe with most. To imply that a small recess at the transom of the boat would somehow jeopardize structural integrity to me is showing cracks in the woodwork and is a totally unfounded claim. You say that it is fused to the outer skin, so what we are proposing with a recess would actually provide a bigger footprint for the outerskin to fuse too making the boat..... STRONGER. Significantly, no, but given the conversation, yes marginally. Guess these common pesties are not so slow after all hey?
Lets get this conclusion underway- it seems infact you have agreed with most of our points made and not just the one about being pesties so we thank you for that. The Tuffy in its class IS THE BEST boat, no questions and i as seen in every video including this one have said over and over again. All we have done here is make a video which points out a few odd sods, not even really that bad if you ask me. Am i going to ever be with out my tuffy? Probably not, unless something better hits the market.
On a side note, Just because someone may not be in the same profession, it does not mean they are stupid and blind to possible improvements that could be made. To most companies, customer feedback is the most valuable thing to point out how you can help make a product more suitable to your market, but given the replies we have seen from time to time it would seem that customer feedback only attracts aggressive or derogatory replies and is completely put to bed with no further thought. Remember, its the client that buys your product not you!
@@PolycraftBoats wow, to be honest I thought the video was still a great promotion to Polly, you can see these guys live and breathe this boat and personally great ambassadors for the brand. Then reading their reply once again, being honest whilst still sticking up for the brand. On point, fair points made and as a Polly owner purely because of your videos keep up the good work. With out your videos I would have purchased a smartwave with out doubt, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

crocs cant damage them but they don't have to there sides are so low they can just reach in and pull you out. a man was removed form his 2.5 meter alloy dingy at Hinchinbrook island about 1 month ago.
one of them silly dingy's haughty use and yes he was a yhuty going for a fish. a tuffy while 20 time more sable would fare no better

Hear you loud and clear there with water ingress, absolutely useless water drain channels ( had almost 2 inches of water build up in mine) and scratches/ gouges when going up against rock wall boat ramps. 100% did my head in too.
Other than that, love mine to death haha.

It would fit in the channel sump, attach a hose and just connect to a battery via the alligator clips.
i guess you guys know you can fix all scraps and scratchers with a heat gun.
just melts back into place I used a little butane high pressure lighter on my 4.1 when I got it as it looked like pit bulls had been using it as a chew toy, looks allot better now I will go over it with a hot air gun next time it is out of water ...a rare event. it is very faded from its days as a pro crab boat but heat gun will bring color back. you can see color coming beck where lighter melted furry bits back into hull the bits that looked like dog chews. and yes my tuffy is scuffing up two, but heat gun will bring back to new Finnish.

Nice job. But if you wanna drain the water out of the boat, just get up on plane and pull the drain plug out. All the water in the boat will drain out, then put the plug back in before you come off planing speed.
Usually a solo mission on this boat and with the way the transom is designed this is not the safest thing to do unfortunately.
I changed my aluminum boat to this tuffy. Aluminum its a weak material, really soft and easy to damage. Wtf
hi I have had all 3 models of this boat since 2002 it keeps getting better my last one is the tuffy model.
i live is Innis fail north Queensland so i can tell you front hatch is always full of water rear hatches never get water in them not a drop, as it is imposable due to flange that goes into lid only time they have ever had water is when boat is full to brim with rain water. as I use it for water collection for large vessel.
front hatch seems to fill with rain water easily even thou it has same flange design as rear ones .
I feel this is due to massive lack of boauncy in the front due to design change to under water bow sections.
people who owned earlier model will notice this strait away.
huge change in front design to improve wave cutting ability equals poor frontal lift and much wetter ride that earlier models.
it is the first thing I noticed and the biggest thing I hate on the new model.
as for cannot crack them.... all previous models cracked where floor meets side as it always happens,... my new tuffy was ordered with full foam as this makes it much stronger in this area. due to no air gap between twin skins.
I find new model very wet due to front underwater changes as mentioned previously but i have done many thousands of hours in these boats crabbing and would not have any other.
I think the tuffy is even more stable then previous models if that is possible. pity they got seduced in to changing front design to suit larger outboards and higher speeds.
perhaps i would not find it so wet if I fitted a larger heaver outboard as the rear was lengthen to carry more outboard weight.
I only use a Honda 2.3 as it is the best crabbing engine known to man for many reasons, but so do many round the blockers.
oh by the way if hull is full of foam to survey speck, water carnet run thou rod holders at all. but boat gets even heaver think 20 kilos heaver.
still as I have sunk every one of the previous models foam was the go for me and the fact I thing it would fix the floor cracking issues.
if you continue to be 150 kilos I would fill with foam post haste. I am between 135 and 140 on any given day and feel this is some for the reason the floor cracks.
by the way they will sink like a stone with a larger outboard and swamp with a small outboard only thing is the outboard end will always be totally under water no matter how small it is.
they are neutrally buoyant not positively buoyant,... unless filled with foam to survey spec.
i would not have one for round the block adventures with out foam fill ...long way to walk in croc infested waters and swamps in kakado.
so then you will need a trailer. you still couldn't find a more sable or safer vessel then this i looove them .

I'm living in SEQ at the moment and thinking about getting a tuffy . I will be moving to fnq in the future and thought and the crocs up there and using a small boat like a tufffy . Are they safe with the snapping handbags?
@@troyj9347 super croc safe, as they are totally stable, a noisy engine is a good deterrent for crocs they will move away or sit on bottom till you leave .
just got to look around a little more in breeding season but no boat engine could deter a madden croc.
dont believe a croc could pull one under as it has to much reserve boancy while air is between twin skins but foam filling means perment boancy.
there is a old guy that brings his tinny down to mourilan harbor innisfaill its got a fence around it to keeps crocs out.
we all laugh but my be he will have the last laugh.
I have been crabbing in cairns inlet all last month and there is a 6 footer right up a creek where it is lovely and quite, doesn't like my noisy Honda 2.3 much.
was sitting on the bank one low tide so I thought i would see how close I could idle up to him, got to about 5 foot and it sprang away like a blur covering me in water so dont think they are slow it moved 10 times faster then I could think, let alone defend my self.
but his escape path was very much away from the boat.
not breeding season,.. but I wouldn't try to see how close I could get then as that would just be stupid.

@@troyj9347 the air cooled Honda is so noisy it scare them away long before you see them or you just see there snout and eyes.
it must make their ears bleed I know it sometimes gives me a head ache.
but for serious crabbing with a mother ship it is the best, due to it ability to 4 wheel drive over logs ,sand and mud bars all while never snapping a shear pin I have done over 4 thousand hours with them on 3 meter pollys and never got stuck or had a break down so really they suit each other perfectly due to the Hondas no water pick up and the tuffys indestructability.
it will look like shit after a while as every thing rubs or scraps the old Polly.
so if looks is what you are after ,stay clear of a Polly vessel.
I have a 4.1 Polly also,... called green gravel rash for that reason.
Alloy over plastic. Plus you get so much more boat for the $ with Alloy.
Be hard pressed for that to be true. Plastic roto mould allows a lot more options standard with a better finish than any alloy product

Your boats are fabricated with desirable mods which is a good value without question. Way back in the ‘70’s a US Made plastic boat was produced and my Brother bought a used one, 14’. Other than a center live well it was a spartan design but we caught a lot of fish and thoroughly enjoyed it. Much success with your Boats!
Just bought a new tuffy. After an outing on calm water, always has 500mL of water drain from bungs. Anyone else experience this?
To be honest I did not notice this with mine. I will ask around for you tho
if the water is from outer bungs it is cracked or you have not sealed a hole that you drilled. polycraft recommend selly all clear as only product to use they used to say lexen but when that product stopped coming to aust they now say all clear. if you feel it is cracked return to dealer, he will take pics and send to pollycraft I had one replaced with ease, once dealer sent pic of floor crack showing a major lack of thickness wheir floor meets transom a very easy proses I just had to wait for new one to arrive.@@brenzfishing
oh also cover rod holders with tape to see if water is getting in there if it is you are a legend to get water in there. I once had one that I drilled bolt holes thru transom to secure outboard from theft ,.,.,,water use to pour in at rest. never said I was smart. had to remove transom and get holes welded up.
This boat is so stable because of the weight ?
The weight does help for sure however it is the overall hull design with the massive pontoon like sides that really help with the stability i find.

There is one design problem with this boat that would prevent me from buying it. There is no transom well, so water coming over the stern is going to end up in your lap. A bilge pump well would be nice but this model is made to be self draining from the center drain plug.
Surprisingly little amount comes over the transom. Due to the massive pontoon extensions in the back they keep the transom really high for a shorty.

Hey mate, sorry thought the comment was referring to a different vid, to be honest this vid was more a vid to display how floorless the boat really is. 12-14k? The full set up for this is just under 8, and there is no other boat on the market that will come close for 8k (new boat purchase price of course). To put it simply, i do not personally believe there is a boat under 3.75 m (and I have owned a few) that even compare in versatility, safety and capability to this hull. We have no issues taking this boat well offshore chasing tuna and dhufish.

it looks silly more bath tub then boat until you drive it then you think its got to be 4 meters long, and where has it been all my life. I also have a poly craft 4.1 meter model witch is quite stable, better then any alloy the same size . the little,.. tiny bath tub copy of a tuffy blows and 4 meter Polly or any alloy out of the water for stability...... its not even close. I can feel the massive difference when i step from my 35 footer into both boats while the 4.1 rolls some,... maybe 5 inch's the little tuffy don't roll at all and I am 140 kgs. it was made to be a super stable large boat tender,.... just now every one wants to explore and fish/ dive out of it. and use larger outboards.
I have always spearfished out of mine but now it is a bit darangrus for me ,as I have trouble getting back in,... as I am 60 now and at 140 kg. and the little bugger refuses to roll over to let me in I have to stand on a coral bromine to get in ,...a case of it being to stable.
so if you think you can just pull the boat over and slid in, think again not in a tuffy.

There are a lot of small boats as good or better for less $ and less weight I don't think poly is the way to go for me.
Would love to know what boats you like, I think why polycraft is on its own level is nothing comes close in the size range for stability and buoyancy
@@brenzfishing Have never had a small poly boat or Kayak. But have fished from pirogue's as far as stability maybe but buoyancy nah you can put foam in anything and get plenty of buoyancy with very little added weight. I have used mostly 14'-18' bass boats that were Fiberglass or Aluminum I think Aluminum gives you the best bang for your buck. At the present time I have a 17'7" Alum War Eagle with a 60hp on it love it at my age it will be my last.
