I have a 1953 Hudson that uses a Trico wiper motor. I was once told that neetsfoot oil is recommended for the motor as the internal paddle is made of leather.
Thanks for this man, I've got a wiper motor on my 55 Ford that works but it's too weak to move the wipers fully. I'm betting this'll do the trick, beats having to tear the thing apart.
Have a similar pump on my Ford Fairlane 1955.When I remove the 2 linkages pump works fine. When connected pump moves wiper arms only half way ! No apparent leakage.Any help?Thank you.Good video.
This was very helpful. Have the same wiper motor in a '48 Chevy truck. Looking forward to trying your fix. Do you think that Marvel Mystery Oil would work? (Since some would get pulled into the manifold.)
I go good results by taking it apart, cleaning and lubing everything. However, I think the approach in the video, using the brake fluid, would work just as good and take less time.
Never use brake fluid. People forget that air is drawn into the vacuum wiper and eventually makes its way to the inlet manifold when the wiper is running. Any residual brake fluid will be drawn in with it. Brake fluid can be extremely damaging to the engine internals.

This was a huge help. Thank you for your wonderful advice. My 53 chevy truck is working great now thanks to you
Glad to hear it. Thx!
I should have watched this BEFORE I took apart the motor from my '52 International truck. Very helpful video. Thanks
Did you get good results. I have a ‘51 international L110.
This works great. I did this to my 1950 Mercury. Back in business.
I watched the Nash wiper video, learned from it, thanks for sharing ⚠️
Awesome! Can't wait to try some thing on my 41 plymouth!
Love 41 Plymouth’s
- Best of luck!
That’s sweet, those a are the best. My dad always used antifreeze
Thanks; haven't heard the brake cleaner thing before. Going to try it on mine.😄
Something I preach all the time.. Vacuum Wipers get a Bum Rap mainly from being neglected for many years... A little service goes a long way.
It really worcks on my 1951 buick. Thanck you.😉
Glad it worked for you. Happy motoring!

Great video! I'm at the point of cleaning mine and and wanted to know what you used to clean the wiper motor?
Can I use brake fluid DOT 4? It is not noxious to the paint.Thanks.
When all else fails send the unit to rebuildingtricowipers.com/ who rebuilds them to perfection.
