I haven't done the exercises for that long here as there was so much to cover! So, definitely download the PDF so you can practice the parts and get this crucial skill down(!): drive.google.com/file/d/1ok0ySXCXZ3GvOat1W5ApoMagAuos2SLE/view?usp=sharing

Great subject, I've been working on getting better with my left side in general, this is a huge help. Thank you for the quality content!

Thanks so much, man! 🙏 And yeah, the left side is a weak spot for all us right handed players. But, if we can get it as close as possible to our strong side, we’ll be in a good position. I’ve actually been thinking about getting a double pedal to really dig into that idea. Anyway, super glad this was helpful man and thank you for your comment 💙

Hey Jensine, no worries and I’m glad you digged it 💙 That’s the Tama Speed Cobra, HH915D 🫡 I like 2-legged Hat stands so the third leg doesn’t get in the way! 👊

I don't understand why there are so few videos on the left foot, and why they often don't even mention how important it is, intermediate drummers are often stuck at the same level because they don't use the left foot, it's frustrating to have to relearn how to play drums as a beginner only to add the left foot, at first it hurts because the muscles are not used to do that, so the left foot is messy and no accurate, but with time and efforts, practicing slowly simple grooves / fills then more and more complex at faster tempos, it allows to reach a much higher level with a lot more control and accuracy.
The fun begins when the improvements allow to play any linear patterns (grooves or fills) it opens to a new world being able to play easily 16th notes triplets, odd groupings etc. and create our own patterns at will, sky is the limit, but before reaching that level first we have to practice each pattern a million time with our left foot till it becomes a second nature !

Totally agree with you on the importance of it. And, the lack of education on this topic currently out there.
Also, I fully and totally understand how frustrating it is but don't feel you have to relearn absolutely everything; find the exercises that you find the hardest in this video: for example, you may find 16th notes with quarter note hats really easy but 16th note triplets with 8th note hats hard. Focus on the exercises that are hardest for you and make those your strength 💪 And, like I say in this video, just start tapping your foot all the time when you're listening to music. That will allow you to start to feel the pulse with your left foot which will help everything else!
Then, once your comfortable, play through the section where we go through the subdivisions with 8th note hats; that may be the best exercise in this whole video. That will give you the freedom to be able to just create on the instrument whilst keeping your left foot going.
Try the Groove exercises too (the first one to begin until you've got that down). Once you're comfortable playing downbeats in most common grooves, transitioning to a fill while keeping that foot going should be easier.
And, you're absolutely right on slowly increasing the tempo. We all have a decent physical capability (generally speaking) so focussing on the pattern (i.e. keeping that hat going), until it becomes natural is really the only goal. Once that is comfortable, everything you already know and the speed you have already developed will all still be there :)
Finally, 100% on when it gets fun. I find that every time I learn a new technique. It sucks to begin, but once you start to get it and start nailing it, damn it's fun and rewarding.
All the very best man and hope this helps!

@@ferggriffindrums Thanks for the long reply and the recap, but I was talking about myself in the past ! Now I can play almost any pattern with my left foot going and if I can't play the pattern yet I can learn it quite fast, I'm really having fun since I'm comfortable with my left foot that's why I wrote that comment (struggling because english is not my mother tongue) to encourage drummers, to tell them don't skip that important part or you won't be able to reach the next level, oh and I forgot to mention : beginners should learn how to use their hi-hat foot as soon as possible !

@@Martin_Bernard Haha, oh right! Forgive me for misunderstanding, Martin! Well, I totally get what you mean now and absolutely agree. It's definitely a great thing to learn and help get one to the next level. Thanks for encouraging other drummers and have an awesome day 👊
