-- How To Relieve Stress And Anxiety Fast (Somatic Practice) --
When it comes to stress and anxiety relief, here’s what you should know:
Your brain is not separate from your body.
That seems mind-numbingly simple, doesn’t it? Of course they aren’t separate.
But unfortunately we live within a culture that divides mind from body. The separation is so pervasive that it permeates every aspect of our lives without us even being aware of it.
Take language for example. We talk about our bodies like they’re not part of “us,” -- i.e. the you that you identify with as your personality.
But actually your body is integral to who you are. Not in a judgy sort of way, like you’re a bad person if you don’t fit an unrealistic physical ideal.
But in a neurological sort of way -- your thoughts and movement develop simultaneously.
    And they function simultaneously, too.
Thoughts, in fact, are the narration or summary of our physical sensations and emotions. Which means that you can change anxious thoughts by shifting your sensory experience…
i.e. by giving your brain some new information.
And that’s exactly what I show you how to do in this week’s video. Give it a watch and let me know how it goes for you in the comments.

Thank-you for boldly speaking the truth that existing practices we've been taught/practised don't always work! The assumption is that they do, and there's something wrong with you if it's not working!!! It's quite a big relief to realize that just maybe it was the technique & not oneself!!! Big gratitude!!

Im 44, never experienced any real anxiety but have a high stress job and 17 years of this has taken its toll and for the 1st time in my life, experiencing spikes of high blood pressure was not good. My stress limits have reduced about 25% making my normal high stress limits overflow and my body crashes. I tried addressing my blood pressure by diet but didnt actually address the cause! Found this UA-cam channel and looking forward to seeing the results. My physical health is very good but need to address the stress issues. Excellent content so far and will watch all of the videos. I love everything about this video. For years now I've been in/out of treatment for alcohol/substance abuse disorder. I've attended Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Anger Management and recently Mindfulness, all of which have been helpful. The 12 step approach even more so because it over action and service as a means to help however there's so many rules. Church has even more requirements for a person to follow. All of these are good with me but I'm looking for mental, emotional and spiritual wholeness. The information here helps. And it's a pretty cool way to practice Self-Care. Thank you for your passion and your time.

@@rhondapelletier2141 Reduce negative thoughts. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety. For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back erect, eyes closed, hands on lap with palms facing upwards, be still and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight with your thoughts. Slowly negative thoughts will reduce and relax the mind. Deep inhalation-exhalation is not needed. During the day or night before sleep sit or lie down and observe your breath. Being still reduces negative thoughts. Make this a daily habit to have a relaxed life. Best wishes and prayers. I'm finding your series of somatic relaxation very interesting, not something I have tried before, so please keep up with doing more. As for anxiety, I have suffered with it all my life, mainly social anxiety and I have always used my hands to help myself as in when I am super anxious I would dig my nails into my fingers and really screw my hands up tight and concentrate on that feeling, I always thought it was just a distraction as it seemed to help but now you have explained the relationship between fingers and the brain, that really opens up alot of new ideas about why that helps me, and also, thank you for helping me :) you are also a beautiful human for what you do.

I think a big problem for me is that I can get overly excited about anything now (this wasn't always the case). It's like the excitability (good or bad) features won't shut off. When I start to relax, my muscles will twitch, sometimes constricting and and relaxing. I am trying to "reset my vagus nerve" to shut off my bodies feature. I love sports, but now I can become so excited that I'm super-tensed. I think it's called excessive sympathetic activity.

I just started learning about the Polyvagal theory and it has just clicked for my own understanding of myself. I started trying some of the exercises you offered and it works wonders !
I developed Neuro-Lyme almost 10 years ago and suffered severe vagus nerve damage -throw in unresolved trauma and there’s no wonder, I was constantly feeling out of sorts.
I look forward to exploring this more! Thank you for your work!

For BFRBers (skin pickers, hair pullers, and others), I believe this information is so relevant. I'm finishing up writing a book on how to manage these behaviors! (See bio if curious.) These rings will get a mention.
Loving and sharing your videos. :) Thank you.

I have mostly used meditation and breathing. Also vagus nerve stimulation. That is not working for me anymore. I have Ben thought quite a trauma filled last two years with being sick and then they took out my gallbladder. This created not only trauma in my body but dysbiosis in my gut and it really messed up my microbiome. Now my legs and feet feel numb and tingly. It’s frightening. I’m hoping this will help me Suki. I’ve done your vagus nerve exercises and they did help before I had all this trauma with the gallbladder stuff. But since the GB removal and dysbiosis I’m worse with the added tingling in my legs and feet. I feel frightened too.

I have been in chronic pain for 25 yrs. I found out about and have been working on healing through the Pain Reprocessing Therapy and somatic tracking. I believe my pain is mind/body but it has been slow going. In one of your other videos you stated to not to overdo the exercises, to work slowly on resetting the Vagus Nerve. Does this apply to the accupressure rings? Can I fidget with them throughout the day without overdoing it or should they be used just once a day? Thanks so much, excited to try your techniques.
