For me... This was best era in pool. No carbon fiber shafts, players had style, the sound of the ball dropping into the pocket was pure music. This was the era that inspired me most. RIP Tony Ellin
Sad but true. Well said. Today, all these young robotic players play with no emotion. It's just run out, jump to escape the safety then jump some more. 80's and 90's is my favorite time in pool as well, but them days are hone
@@philipcahill4190 You know exactly what I'm talking about. I'm not bashing today's technology or even the players. It was just a different time and just brings back good memories! I love this game, then, now and forever! That's the beauty of it too. There are thousands of great players across the globe and they keep getting better and better and better. Can't wait to see the next generation of great players. I'm not here to offend anyone. Just here for the love of the game. ✌️
@albert333pool well said..!! I agree 100% also there was a dress code, pool players in the good days looked like well dressed men. Today players look like a billboard on a cheap nylon shirt.
Love this era. Watching this on ESPN back in this era got me into playing pool. Was 10 at the time. I agree with albert333pool. Love the sound of wood compared to CF. Earl Strickland is the best. For him to play with a Cutetec with no bells and whistles is astonishing
And Strickland said ...Cuetech completely destroyed my game...nothing like a classic wood shaft...". Well to be fair Earl won his US Championships with that cue.
Yes! Watching these matches back in the day was pure magic for me. Glued to the television set! This era of pool was more classy and glamorous somehow. Never again. Now everything is so technical. Players are emotionless robots walking around the table. Very sad! 😔
Grady in the Booth, 2 of my all time favorite players, Tony is still sorely missed, He was a great human being, don't make many like him, We love and miss you Hurricane Tony
I mean... those last 6 racks Earl won... billiard perfection. I never loved Earl's antics/temper... which ironically enough might be the only reasons he ever lost... but GD. This was an insane performance.
Congrats to Earl! He always has been pushing pool as you hear in his short victory speech. Love him or hate him but respect his game and commitment to it!
One of my favorite on the road moments was watching my brother (Jeremy), who was quite large at the time, playing Tony some tennis for cash.. lol.. Quite a sight..
I don't give a dauum what they say earl missed that ball on purpose so tony could shoot again, cause he told ref to let him go an the other ref said no. Earl had to take the shot, but by missing one it set the record straight, everything things was back on track. In other words nobody could say IF HE HADN'T OF, YOU WOULDN'T OF !!!!
Finally i was wondering why this match was not on youtube , i've had it on vhs cassette 20 years. To all of you bashing on Earl strickland did you even see what he did ??? Who in the world would do this today ? The judge called a foul for Tony and Earl did not call it a foul, took ball in hand and missed on purpose , WHO WOULD DO THIS TODAY ??? Today their brain would melt and say their stupid favorite word " rules are rules" morons robot rules are rules so what wtf be a human beeing and not a robot, when someone picks up balls when the queball has not stopped and rolling towards a middle of the rail 0.5mph it should NOT be a faul. And same with obvious combos in 10 ball don't be a stupid a**hole and call it a foul because he did not call it. You know what he wanted to do.
Tony moved a six ball when he reached over the table. They were playing "all ball fouls" so it was called on him. It appears as if Earl did not call the foul and motioned for Ellin to go ahead and shoot. When the foul was called by the official, Earl took ball in hand.
He knows EARL MISSED THAT BALL ON PURPOSE, BECAUSE HE TOLD THEM TO LET HIM SHOOT AGAIN AN THEY WOULDN'T DO IT SO HE MISSED SO HE COULD SHOOT AGAIN ANYWAY!! NOW NOBODY CAN SAY ( IF I HADN'T, HE COULDN'T OF )!!!! It's back even now !!

I don't disagree with you but out of curiosity, what is a player with "style" for you?

Tony Ellin had a crazy powerful break
Grady in the Booth, 2 of my all time favorite players, Tony is still sorely missed, He was a great human being, don't make many like him, We love and miss you Hurricane Tony
More Toni Ellin please!
Poor table... Jesus that's a powerful break! 😬
I can’t even begin to wrap my head around that break!!!
15k back then was ok gas was about 86 cents a gallon I was stationed in VA Beach Fort Story during this years 91-95 great pool back then

Boy, I forgot what a great player Tony Ellin was! Not to mention that sledgehammer break! 😵 I didn’t remember they had jump cues either!
Hurricane Tony Ellin was so great!!! Damn shame!!!
RIP Tony Ellin
If he only knew how much he is sorely missed
jump stick is ridiculous, Earl is so smart he knew it a long time ago.
Strickland in his prime. Great to watch. Never was a huge fan of his harsh personality, but I respect his game.
RIP Tony!! NC vs SC in the finals 30 yrs ago.
Earl lookin super fit
Strickland at his best
One of my favorite on the road moments was watching my brother (Jeremy), who was quite large at the time, playing Tony some tennis for cash.. lol..
Quite a sight..
I remember watching Jeremy play at the Licky Break in Greenville, SC on Whitehorse Rd in the early 90s. Good times.

tony ellin was a beast, wish he could’ve pulled it off, RIP
Wait they had jump cues in 1993?
59:23 Earl double hit that one ball in the upper corner. You could hear it.

It's spelled FOUL 😂
Not a big fan of Strickland but, that’s not taking away from his game. Great match.
What was the foul at about 30 min?

@@AccuStats Thank you.
I believe Earl missed that shot on purpose
@@rockyj2008 I wondered that, too.
$12K was a lot of money in 1993. Now, not so much.
