His edge never dulls. You feel how full of gratitude he is, but the chip on his shoulder is for life. You feel his inner humility, but it always gets punched in the face by his confidence. At his most gracious he still talks God-tier smack. The Pearl’s swagger is equal parts nasty and divine. 🤟🏼❤️🤟🏼

During the 80’s, 90’s and to some extent 2000’s Earl Strickland was the best 9-ball player ever. Three World 9-ball Championships and Five U.S. 9-Ball titles speaks volumes. I also like SVB, another solid 9-ball player.

The Pro Billiards Tour produced over 80 major tournaments between 1991 and 1997. We had to fight to survive, every step of the way, because the pool world's elites couldn't imagine what the sport could be. They cheered when Camel busted us. But they didn't kill us. We have the tapes of all those great PBT Legends playing each other and we're using them to build a new PBT - for ALL the players and the - fans. These three Legends were - and are - warriors. They loved pool - and still do. The PBT was about opportunity - and still is. This show is just a beginning, as entertaining and interesting as it is. We did about 14 podcasts over a two day period at the 2022 International Open last week. It's all coming in the weeks ahead and we hope you love it. We call the podcasts "Straight Pool" for a reason. I came up loving 14.1 and Willie Mosconi. I agree with Earl. It's time to take pool to another level. Stay tuned.

Everybody hated Earl back there and Luc was in his home town. The match was pretty exciting and Earl won this, it was magic. I will never forget this day, good luck Earl youre the best. That was good to see you old hands coming with some wisdom.
When I first started playing pool in the early 60’s straight pool was what everyone played. Nine ball was for gambling. I didn’t like 8-ball, and didn’t gamble, so it was straight pool.

Also, when I started playing in the late sixties, there were many more pool rooms around plus most bowling alleys had tables as well. Now , way fewer. Thank you for your great opinions .

But he's a treasure of the game. I honestly think he's the greatest ever play on a Brunswick table. People don't talk about how different the diamond slates play verses the Brunswick tables. Diamond tables has taken the power out of pool. Earls the last player left who will still play with power. It's not the pocket size that's changed pool it's the deep slates. Earl and a Gold crown with 4-in pockets he still powers to cue ball around the table

Earl is right once again. Gambling is horrible for pool, as you have guys hassling you to gamble if you go into a pool room to just relax and also the top players of the area are normally beggars and need someone to back them to play for 50 dollars or more. But the main pool scene is ran by the big stake horses and they love the control they have running the scene and with them being in control it won't grow over the niche audience they have now...Pool is doing good but its with rec and league players and not high level play because of the crap that goes on at pool rooms which top area players are at because of the drugs and gamblers that will run good people off..( for those that say golf is doing great with gambling I will agree but the clubhouse is not set up to hassle everyone there)....# Team EARL

Kim Davenport mentions at about 15:15 that he hopes that he could see a day when pocket billiards players can make a living playing the game. Of course, he helped call quite a number of the final matches Prime Sports/FOX Sports telecast in 1996, when Johnny Archer won something like $167,000 when he was at the peak of his abilities. That was the closest professional billiards ever came to a fully televised tour, which if I remember right, was a stated goal of the PBT back then. I recorded almost all of those matches in 1995-'96 on old VHS tapes (I recorded one or both of the semi-final matches ESPN did from the 1994 PBT championship, but not the championship match), with the last of those being the one event of the Senior Tour Steve Mizerak came up with that was televised, which was from Biloxi, MS in early 1997 (Mizerak won it). Unfortunately, the whole thing fell apart right after that, just at the point when pocket billiards, and particularly 9-ball, was about to take off (the same thing would happen when they tried to bring 8-ball to the masses a number of years later).

Right about that the game changed. I quit competition in 30 years ago and just started again last year at 53. I could’ve believe all the tips now all the carbon shafts, so many more safety plays and tight 4” pockets compared to the 5” pockets. 9 on spot, alternate break etc. all these newly designed break cues with hard ass tips sound like metal hitting the ball now days. 30 years ago we jumped with a wood jump cue with La Pro tip or jumped with our playing cue which also had a la pro tip. Ha. And the days of running 6+ racks to make a comeback are gone with the alternate break, 9 on spot, break from the box and tight pockets. And ya the clubs, balls, course conditions, greens etc have made a huge difference in current golf.

EARL is 💯% correct. You can call him what you want...... All of the explanations the Earl is saying is definitely true.
Just like he said with other sports football you get 3 and other sports area the same. You need to use them smartly. And it's you use them, well that's your fault not using them.. You have to huse that...
EARL knows one thing about ALL POOL...,..
    LOVR YOU EARLY !!!!!!

Strickland is right about pool. Jump shots have allowed mediocre players to escape from being snookered by an opponent. And that takes away an important part of tactical play. Also, the height of the playing surface has not been raised in 150 years, and back in the day, people were much shorter than now. Raise the tables two or three inches so the rest of us do not have to bend way over to make a shot.

My favorite time of pool was the 1970s and early 80s. Earl, Buddy Hall Nick Varner Jimmy Reid Mike Sigel Nick Varner, Jimmy Marino, Jimmy Mataya, The pool world has knockers, those are the people that want you to lose, the rest of the world wants to embrace you, but you need to reach out and let them know you won't bite them , lol. We have talked many times at tournaments for short periods, but I was always respectful, if you had a bad match I left you alone for awhile to let it go. I wish only good things for you Earl,
