Michigander here. The key to dressing warmly is lots of thinner, lighter layers. Think long socks under leggings, then pants over leggings. Then another pair of socks on over the long socks.Thermal under a sweater and a jacket/coat over the sweater. Gloves and hats are a MUST when it's below freezing as you can get frost bite quickly if you're not careful. Hope this helps

Vermonter here- agree but have to add that for warmth, mittens > gloves, always

negative temps & snow dressing tips:
    - Wool coats just don't cut it, they get soaked in the snow and are not insulating enough. Invest in a good puffer, I recommend Aritzia - their super puff is made to keep you warm up to -30°C or wear your Acne shearling coat.
    - Always layer & limit the amount of skin exposure. For example, in your outfit with the red jumper you should've still worn a layer under it regardless if wearing a puffer on top. Because when walking, sitting down etc there's gapping between the jumper and your jeans, leaving the skin on your back more exposed than everything else therefore more susceptible to the cold.
    - Less is not more. It's better to be hot & remove layers as you walk around than being cold.
    - Wear shoes that cover your ankles & are waterproof because snow/wind/cold penetrates through simple trainers. I've seen you wear UGGs on Instagram - they're not the most water/snow proof but definitely better than the sambas.
    - Get some wool/cashmere socks.

I find the key is a warm coat - I've kind of abandoned any wool coats at this point and given in to big puffer coats. Style kind of dies in the winter (at least in Montreal if you actually want to be confortable for more than a minute)

Probably more realistic to keep warm than think style (where i am is snowing). Puffer coats are the way to go, wool coats are really for mild winters. I noticed a lot of UK-based bloggers don't seem to dress that warm (bare ankles to say the least). I was there some years ago, it's not as cold as Canada. Generally speaking, where i saw was that people don't wear puffer coats and thermals are uncommon.

Weird winter dressing hack: Wear shapewear instead of actual thermal camisole. The key is to just have something very fitted and clings to your skin in order to stay warm. Any sliver of wind on bare skin will instantly make you feel cold. Plus side of shapewear is it allows you to wear layers and not feel bulky/stuffy.
Another staple for me is a quilted, slightly puffy vest. I got one that attached to one of my interchangeable jackets but it works perfectly on most of my outerwear, I just attach it with pins. Great hack for when you know you’ll dine in somewhere because it allows you to remove 2 warm layers instantly and sit comfortably in a heated indoor area.
Also need to always double on socks that’s why I size up on boots.

Feeling like a grandma watching you not wearing a vest underneath your t-shirt or even underneath the jumper in the last fit. I could never leave the house without wearing at least 3 layers underneath a coat when it's that cold. 😅

I love this- a Brit figuring out how to dress for cold weather. winters further north are something else.

It would be nice if you could place the camera where the light is coming from, instead of the side, as it was quite hard to see your outfit most of the time! (until you moved to show the final fit) x

To avoid the hair matting, do a low and loose braid and leave some front pieces out! I find it fits perfectly under a hat, scarf and big coat

I totally feel you on the feeling like you're nothing but "a coat" in the cold weather! It's been freezing in Paris lately and I feel like all I do is rotate coats! lol! Love the navy and black too! so chic. xx

Does your whole wardrobe come from sponsors (or whatever the technical term is!)? I mean, apart from your trainers!

Reality is that most influencers’ wardrobes consist mostly of gifted items… it’s the nature of their job. What I do appreciate is that Lizzy’s wardrobe consists of items that she herself has carefully chosen, from brands that fit her style

TIP Doc Martins. Place a sanitary towel inside the boot at the place where you’re getting blisters, until broken in.

Silk under clothes are pricey but very warm. Lots of ski people wear them.

I live in sunny 😎 Fl now but when I lived in the NYC NY, Chicago IL, & Charlotte NC fashion was sacrificed at the alter of winter 🥶 Liszt. Wool coats aren’t an option in the dead of winter. My winter uniform consisted of varied lengths of puffer coats with black or blue jeans over thermal leggings/undies & varied lengths of boots. Knee high combat snow boots all thick soles & low healed. I had zero color bc it was usually mostly black outer wear you’d see (boots, coat, hat, gloves, scarf). Dull but warm. Also my jeans would be the tightest fit during the winter months I’d wear a looser & more stylish cuts in the warmer months. I don’t miss the weather.

Thermal top and knee high socks as base layers with cashmere wrist warmers, scarf and hat as top layers are what keeps me comfortable throughout the winter. Interchangeable with knitwear, bottoms and coat. Highly recommend this formula for winter comfort and also being able to change outfits!

As a NY-er for 20 years - the key is WOOL SOCKS. And invest in a coat that is really warm (longer) that you LOVE. Also very large blanket scarfs. Essentially that's your outfit everyday. Cashmere, wool, alpaca, mohair sweaters are key. Cotton and anything else is a waste of time lol.

I normally wear earmuffs rather than a hat. I don't mind my head feeling cool but my ears get really painful below about -5 C. Of course Liz you look gorgeous as always!

Lizzy, put some thick and big bandaids on the areas of your feet that you think might hurt from breaking your new shoes and a thick socks over it

Wearing a thin pair of socks under a thicker pair of socks is very helpful for breaking in Dr Martens (if you didn't try it already) :)
