I strongly advise that you.... always....keep a litre of water with you. I've made that walk many times, I lived in East Sussex, and on a few occasions found that the water Taps on route do occasionally get vandalised. Believe me, after walking all day down to the crossing at the main road between Midhurst and Chichester, to find some clown have snapped the tap spindle off was not funny.
