    In 2013 we had a custom made PC with the same Tripp-lite UPS. When the batteries died, the person who had built the PC and had also specified the UPS, told us it was easiest to just buy a new one. We did back then.
    Last week, the UPS went belly up again and we were ready to order our third UPS when I came across your video. We got the batteries from Amazon two days later and the next day the UPS was back in service. THANK YOU!

    Love the video - exactly what I needed to fix my UPS. I had to stop the video to see what type of battery you used. I am surprised you went with 7.2AH vs 9AH? I ordered the NPP 12V 9AH to get the longer life, otherwise everything else was spot on. I would not have even attempted to fix my UPS were it not for your video - THANK YOU!

      Thanks, glad you liked the video! The higher the battery capacity, the better, I didn't see a 9AH option when I bought mine, just make sure it has the exact same size, then you're golden!

    Your video helped me to install my replacement. I took out the old battery at the first of the year and when I found a replacement I forgot how it goes in. I bought a brand by APC that is a competitor to trip-lite an it works just fine. I was not about to spend $ 200 on trip-lite's replacement battery. You can buy a whole new system for that price. One thing I run across is senior citizens need a UPS backup to keep their phone system running to be able to call 911 when they have a health emergency.

    • @mikeschilli1088
      @mikeschilli1088  2 роки тому

      Great to hear that you got the job done! Really, any brand battery should work fine, hard to predict which ones will last the longest. Just make sure they come with the F2 (thick) terminals, not the thinner F1 terminals or you'll have to do extra work squeezing the connectors.

    Always hook up ground first then the live wire red so Black then red.to prevent sparks this is the proper way to hook up batteries even car batteries

    • @mikeschilli1088
      @mikeschilli1088  5 місяців тому

      Couple of things: The concept of a "live wire" only applies if one wire is neutral/grounded, like with a power outlet. Never operate on a hot power outlet at all, always remove the fuse beforehand or you could receive a fatal jolt. With a car battery, it's a different situation, because one part is connected to the chassis of the car. In this scenario, always hook up ground last (!), to avoid any shorts/sparks when tightening the positive terminal while touching some part of the chassis with the wrench. With a UPS system like in this video, which is disconnected from power while you're working on it (double check!), it does not matter if you're connecting the negative or positive battery terminal first. If there's a current spike when you connect (capacitors etc), you'll always get a spark, but it's benign because of the low battery voltage. Hope that helps!

  • @NoferTrunions
    @NoferTrunions Місяць тому

    I was thinking of buying a new UPS mostly because they have battery indicators. But if they don't tell you if the batteries are near replacing, what good is the indicator? (It could be based on voltage which would not detect if the capacity had degraded to nothing.)

    • @mikeschilli1088
      @mikeschilli1088  Місяць тому

      Detecting the remaining battery capacity is a hard problem, and I'd suspect any build-in indicators will only give you a rough estimate. The only way to verify is actually to unplug the unit and see how long it'll last.

    I have the same Tripp-LIte as in the video. Unfortunately, I can’t remove the patch cable from the original batteries that came with with it. It’s like the ends are crimped. Maybe I’m weak, but the batteriy terminals released easily from the cables in the unit itself. I’m afraid if I pull any harder I’ll damage the cable. I can’t find a small cable like that anywhere, just do-it-yourself connector kits.

    • @mikeschilli1088
      @mikeschilli1088  2 роки тому +1

      I remember that the patch cable connectors took quite some time and force to wiggle off the terminals. If they won't budge, try un-crimping them a bit with a small screwdriver.

    I have 3 of these UPS brand new. they were stored for almost 2 years and they won’t turn on, is this behavior normal? shouldn’t they turn on even the battery is dead? if I purchase new batteries for them, will they revive?

    • @mikeschilli1088
      @mikeschilli1088  8 місяців тому

      The batteries in the UPS are the same technology as the car/motorcycles variety, so leaving them uncharged for 2 years would discharge them to the point where it's hard to resuscitate them. Maybe take them out of the case to see if that's the case before you order replacement batteries?

  • @olddad3312

    The replacement battery(s) is different in the way they have the +/- posts. These attach by screw/bolt instead of the push-ons .. Now what? Any ideas? thank

    • @mikeschilli1088
      @mikeschilli1088  10 місяців тому

      First preference would be to exchange the batteries for ones with the correct terminal type. If that's not an option, the second best would probably be to McGyver a spade shaped adapter from a short string of cable and a male crimp-type connector to attach to the screw-in connector on the battery.
