- I kept getting asked the question: How does the XR150L compare to the DR200?! I did my best to answer that question in this video.

Love it lol
Yes
Aye so as a long term DR200 owner, I just want to say the thing is goin awesome still at 15,000 miles at 7,000 rpm most it’s life
I bought one just cause Gabe hyped me up for one. So happy I did, I've been riding it a ton since I bought it.
Good old Gabe is back with, as always, interesting overview/comparison.
Gabe, thank you for being an honest person in a field of paid off shills. I bought a XR150 for the wife 7/23, sight unseen, without benefit of your videos. Every other reviewer said it was a small version on my XR400R and XR650L - what BS. The other videos promoted the lies that it was made in Mexico, had a 4 valve head, and could do 70mph, and sold for $2971. Just looking at the brochure you spotted it has no rear link. I now realize that I should have bought a mint used DR200 for $2k instead of a new Chinese made 150 for $4,625 out the door. I am just one of thousands of people who enjoy your perspectives and honest reviews, even if it came too late on this one for me.
If paid 4625 out the door, that says all anyone needs to know about you.
I got to rent an xr150 for 15 dollars a day in baja...it was awesome
I miss this channel dearly! More races!
I would like to see the same kind of shoot-out between the DR200 and an XR200...lets also see some twin shock 4 stroke shoot-outs, like a 79-80 XR250-TT250-KLX250R....battle of the small-bore twin shock 4 strokes!!!!!!
Xr200 build would be awesome
Excellent comparison. Nice to see you in my feed!
YES! This is the review we’ve been waiting for!!!
dude this is the content we been absolutely waiting for! 🔥
Hey! i have loved your videos forever now and they always make me happy to see keep it up!
bike life forever!
Love the footage of the legendary DR banging passes on new race bikes at the 24. Great video as always, hope you're doing well!
The KTM you passed in the video was shedding tears in agreement!
My dude, just ran into your channel and have been binging it. Keep it up! Also… HTF do you do this from a truck? Absolute Chad.
Took my 150l to the desert recently and am impressed
I'll have to say, you do well on your page to make toy bikes sound cool!
Quality video great riding
Always look forward to your uploads Gabe. Any projects you are working on currently?
Love this one! My daily is a DR200. i appreciate a video that actually has good things to say. I may have to find some info about those mods you mentioned.
I got a dr200 too. The mods to make it fast are pretty straightforward. Replace and Jet the carburator. I recommend OKO 28mm PWK carburator.
Put on a DG exhaust, make a universal cheap exhaust fit or modify the original.
Remove the airbox lid and the mesh further down in the airbox or install a Uni Podfilter.
Thats what I did and Gabe did for performance.
You can of course go overboard and make it a 265cc stroker with a racing camshaft and cam. Making the displacement to 265cc costs a lot of money though. I would only do that if I raced it proffesionally
You can get a LT230 hotcam for 150 usd though.
I recommend you get Gabes tutorial on how to set up everything in detail including modifying the exhaust and lmproving the suspension.
@@Rocketman0407 Great info. I definitely appreciate it. I've had it since the middle of 2019 and besides changing the battery once or twice it's been fantastic.
YES!!!!! damn I love your vids. Sorry to say but you just don't upload enough. WE WANT you lol.
Your content is top quality.
I'd love to see you get on a mid size ADV bike like a T660, TA, T7 or 800de 🙂
As someone who has raced a dr200 before as well, I agree with all your points on the dr200 👍
A 2009+ KLX250 as a new race bike project would be cool for several reasons. It is an underpowered dual-sport like the other classics in here. When you look at the frame geometry, the KLX is basically a 4-stroke sibling of the KDX. It would be hilarious seeing a KLX blasting past some high-end bikes on the trails. Also an in-depth comparison of a KLX250 with your KDX content would be interesting to witness for a ton of folks. To see how much of the KDX's offroad capabilities have remained in the KLX's framework.
that's really weird how it pops to different gears when thrashing. i'd be worried about that. i do appreciate the explanation on the differences in the head and valvetrain.
I think one of your next bikes that I think fits this theme well is the Kayo k2 230. Basically a knockoff crf 230f with inverted forks and a factory headlight. Even cheaper than the xr150. Just food for thought.
Also, do you still have your old xr250r? Just curious
I’m thinking of the Klx 230s
excellent video, a question friend. I bought an xr 150, my question is if I damaged something internal to the engine when driving it at high revs for the first time in the mountains?
Was wondering if you could get your hands on a kayo 250 efi. I bought one to ride with my kids. (Just getting back into riding) But i would like to see you put one to the test and get your opinion.
Question for you. In a previous video (the team race on the 24 hour glen helen race) you said you usually never get arm pump except for that instance when you did. How do you mitigate it? Every time I attempt to ride at whatever I call a “race pace” I get it within minutes. And it’s hard to get it to go away.
Also what kind of training do you do to last during the race? I can probably manage 10-15 minutes before I start to lose it.
Could you do a video that goes into depth on preparing to race? I primarily try to race woods, have no MX track near by, and most of my riding is either dirt roads, whatever I can manage in my back yard pretty much, and singletrack.
What kind of set up do you have on your XR? Tires handlebars, etc.
Can you see if you can get a ride on a Kove? I’d be interested to see what you think
Check your local used market and I guarantee you the Suzuki used his 500 bucks cheaper+++... Some Suzuki's bringing half the amount other people want for Hondas. It's why I've always loved the brand. Cheaper and still decently engineered!!
What mods did you do to the DR? I can’t find the video where you list them all even though you said there would be one at some point
Who could not love the DR200👍
More racing please!
150L needs some ktm tears!
Upgrade the engine to
66mm borekit
5.8 camshaft
Let see the power of that mowing machine 😂
When you gonna race the xr150l ?
Perfectly interesting, accurate commentary, as usual Gabe, for us mere mortals with average wallets.
Country of origin CHINA? Whaaaat?
That’s a deal breaker.
Where did you think they made this thing? It cost a handshake and a sack of potatoes and you can't walk outdoors in south america or SE asia without tripping over one.
Many Hondas are made in CHYNA
Any mods you’ve done on the xr150??
A 1987 Suzuki DR-200 with a larger main jet, after market muffler, and pod air filter will run rings around that inferior Honda 150!
For a minute, I thought you'd hung up the camera for 9 to 5.
Sym nht review?
How does one contact Gabriel off of social media?
You should sell a couple of bikes and get a race bike. I would love to see your riding on one
I wonder if it would be hard to upgrade the xr150 to get the same performance as an uncorcked dr200.
Here in Philippines we upgrade the block and piston to 63mm, racing CDI, P27 Carburator (jettings vary), Racing Ignition coil and Iridium 3 point spark plug. You can change the front suspension with that of the CRF and rear suspension from XR 200 or just get a whole XR 200 swing arm, you might have to change your side stand tho.
I think the xr150l is made in Mexico (?). The VIN will indicate the country of manufacture
Mainly made in China, and assembled in a Chinese Honda plant in Mexico to avoid the Tariff penalty.
Imagine all the tears if you rode an enduro on a kayo or similar Chinese bike and finished on the podium😂😂
So, maybe put the XR150 engine in the Suzuki Dr200 chassis?
Why? Its a lot less powerful. Makes more sense to put a big bore in the xr150. Think you can make it over 200cc. Then do some more performance mods.
Thia is once again proving the suzuki Master race.
Picking a dual sport should be based on a street legal dirt bike not a dirt able motorcycle
Go fast and turn left sometimes
Did not know Honda was making stuff in China. I thought maybe Malaysia or Thailand but China?
The XR150L in brazil is called NXR 150 Bros anda have much power upgrades to engine. This 150cc engine is the most sellued engine in Brazil and the price for upgrades is minimal. ua-cam.com/video/H-tGKmHQ3lY/v-deo.html - upgrade test for 184cc.
Beta ALP200 runs the dr200 moto.
Sell both and get a used DRZ 400. Best of both worlds.
Thats too good man. Get a grip
@@hannesleijowall5727 way too easy too.
Dr200 way better than chinese built xr150.
Damn this didnt age well lol, loads of XR’s are breaking down because of poor quality materials.
They really are, it's pathetic
i doubt the 150l would outlast the dr200 even on street. the dr has been proven bulletproof and the reasons given for the 150l being more reliable are a bit off the mark. roller bearings and roller rockers require being replaced periodically or you risk a catastrophic failure. the benefit is they free up some up some extra rpm or allow a more aggressive cam lobe profile which makes it a better 150 but not a match for the dr's extra displacement.
I'd rather have the actual bearings without a doubt. Seen way too many heads have to get tossed because of pesky cam journals. To each their own
@@TortureTestMagazine like i said the bearings can be good or bad depending if you catch a failure before it happens.
no dr has cam bearings, it takes a lot of miles or a lot of neglect to wear out the cam journals. and new heads are readily available and not cost prohibitive. time will tell if the 150l is a match for the dr reliability. i doubt it.
THE HONDA XR150L IS THE FIRST HONDA THAT IM AWARE OF THAT WAS BUILT BY THE SUNDIRO HOLDING COMPANY OF CHINA, PEOPLE TRASH CHINA BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT KNOWN FOR THEIR BUILD QUALITY, WHICH WOULD EXPLAIN THE POOR FRAME WELDS ON THE XR150L, BUT AS LONG AS IT HAS THE HONDA BADGE STAMPED ON IT PEOPLE WILL HAPPILY PAY OVER 3K AND OVER 4K IF YOUR DEALING WITH A STEALERSHIP FOR A CHINESE BUILT HONDA 🤣 IF I WAS IN THE MARKET FOR A BARE BONES DUAL SPORT I WOULD TAKE THE DR200 WITHOUT HESITATION, ROLLER BEARINGS OR NOT, ANYTHING PRODUCED IN CHINA IS SUSPECT REGARDLESS OF THE HONDA STAMP.
bro come back, your destroying such a grate and unique channel
The xr150l is made in China?
Do you know any good full exhaust system for the XR150l or supermoto tires for the stock wheels?
