If there's one thing Sonic games typically stumble with, it's the emotional beats. Making Shadow the center of his own game again to capitalize on his incredible backstory is brilliant and I hope Sonic Team doesn't hesitate to bring Shadow to the forefront more often moving forward. Meh, it's all smokes and mirrors. The plot is so paperthin and nonexistent, but they hid it behind layers of tear-jerking moments with Maria and Gerald. Shadow feels too passive and just reacts to things happening to him, Black Doom never truly challenges him pyschologically or physically, hell Shadow actually takes advantage of the Doom powers. The scene with Sonic is just a useless easter egg cringefest to use the fake Emerald as an underwhelming Chekov's gun. There's hardly any memorable line by Shadow. The final boss is underwhelming. So all that remains is Gerald and Maria's goodbye. You've overestimated the power of dangling emotional beats for good writing. This is still barebone.
The fact that shadow sheds a tear here in 2:44:17 actually makes things refreshing, and shows shadow isn’t just defined as an “edge lord”, I like that and I hope they’d show more of shadow having emotions and being a little more chill overall. he KNOWS that he won’t be able to see her again, But just those few interactions, and the hug she gave him when he saw her again, might have been enough for him to feel like how he was 50y ago.

I never played the original generations the hd version or the 3ds version, but only played lost world 3ds and colors on the Wii and colors ds in December 2016 on an emulator. I been a Sonic fan since generations but sa1 got me into the series, then generations was the game that really made me want to play Sonic.
Despite that sad goodbye I think this is a sign that on many different levels, he more or less came to real peace with his pass. And it's not just BD, all the actual bosses in this story are what truly shaped Shadow to who he is now.
It's still strange that Mephiles was brought into the whole thing since he technically was never created as Solaris was blown out at infancy and Sonic 06 never happened.

He cried in Sonic Adventure 2 after Amy spoke to him & he remembered Maria’s true wish. Him crying in this is a call back to that moment. Not only that, he had Maria alive for the moment just to lose her again after defeating Black Doom & restoring the timeline.
Glad we saw Dark beginnings and it takes us right into the game with Shadow was great seeing how close Shadow and Maria were really feel bad for him to lose a girl who was like his sister I had a feeling Shadow wouldn't make it to the birthday party

My head canon is he just gets mind controlled and plucked from the future by Time Eater to rewire him into acting like how he did in 06. That was my head canon for Shadow and SA2 until this came out. Plus, I'm pretty sure 06 is the only game he's actually playable in in main series, so the most you could do make him play through is Unleashed onwards, which could work, but still. Like maybe they could have a stage from Black Knight, for example. I'm not sure how they'd do it.

I guess it's a good thing Graf and Pontac, the writers from Colors to Forces, left Sega after that game since they really didn't respect these characters near the end of their time at the company.

I didn't realise the actual rail canyon AND bullet station were in so thats good... though no rival battles and 3 bosses that were all basically officially spoiled beforehand is kinda disappointing but still looking dope
So, this story is great But if I would add something even more to make it literally *_perfect_* I would make this: 1) Black Doom's intentions to lure Shadow to his side will be that he can bring Maria and Gerald to him, which could result in Shadow having a choice - and it leads to point №2 2) Have 2 different endings only at the final boss (so that the budget doesn't get drain) And you can implement this by having one occur by using chaos control more often, and the other - by using Doom powers First ending: Shadow fully embraces his past: Maria, Gerald, his DNA but he uses it to push himself forward in his life, and no matter who he is no one can stand on his path and then he fights Neo Devil Doom Second ending: Shadow thinks about the consequences that might happen if he doesn't let go of his past (imagine if an another villain appears and he tells Shadow: "Hey dude, I got Maria for you" and tries to manipulate him). So he instead tells Maria and Gerald of their unfortunate fates and that they need to happen in order to Shadow grow to his present state. And if you really wanna push it, the post-credit scene can bring anyone to tears. Here's my pitch: After the birthday is over Shadow asks Tails for something - erase his memory of Maria, Gerald and Black Doom entirely, so he wouldn't have any emotional weaknesses. "Shadow, are you truly sure about it? It's a part of you identity" "And this part can lead to more destruction in the world, no matter how important it is, it's too dangerous for me to remember it" "You ready, Shadow?" *dead silence* "...yes"
And both endings work First one fits in with Sonic Team right now - because they are not afraid of their dark past. They embraced it and made it into something truly amazing And the second one works really well for Shadow's character. He usually does what's better for the planet and no matter at what cost, he will fight like he always had
I just realised that this is the reason why Gerald Robotnick made it so that Shadow can use the Ark to finish off Black Doom and the Black Arms if they decide to take over earth

I'm worried about the overuse of Radical Highway in this campaign. Sonic was first playable in Green Hill Zone and that stage has been used to absolute beyond death. And Shadow was first playable in Radical Highway so... Maybe get used to seeing it in the future.

The time monster must have created a crack in time that saved Black Doom at the last moment before Shadow killed him in the 2005 game.

So, this story is great
But if I would add something even more to make it literally *_perfect_* I would make this:
1) Black Doom's intentions to lure Shadow to his side will be that he can bring Maria and Gerald to him, which could result in Shadow having a choice - and it leads to point №2
2) Have 2 different endings only at the final boss (so that the budget doesn't get drain)
And you can implement this by having one occur by using chaos control more often, and the other - by using Doom powers
First ending: Shadow fully embraces his past: Maria, Gerald, his DNA but he uses it to push himself forward in his life, and no matter who he is no one can stand on his path and then he fights Neo Devil Doom
Second ending: Shadow thinks about the consequences that might happen if he doesn't let go of his past (imagine if an another villain appears and he tells Shadow: "Hey dude, I got Maria for you" and tries to manipulate him). So he instead tells Maria and Gerald of their unfortunate fates and that they need to happen in order to Shadow grow to his present state. And if you really wanna push it, the post-credit scene can bring anyone to tears. Here's my pitch: After the birthday is over Shadow asks Tails for something - erase his memory of Maria, Gerald and Black Doom entirely, so he wouldn't have any emotional weaknesses. "Shadow, are you truly sure about it? It's a part of you identity"
"And this part can lead to more destruction in the world, no matter how important it is, it's too dangerous for me to remember it"
"You ready, Shadow?"
*dead silence* "...yes"
And both endings work
First one fits in with Sonic Team right now - because they are not afraid of their dark past. They embraced it and made it into something truly amazing
And the second one works really well for Shadow's character. He usually does what's better for the planet and no matter at what cost, he will fight like he always had

The Time Eater can take locations from not just the past, but also the future (Sunset Heights, Chaos Island), and even erased timelines (Crisis City).

I'm worried about the overuse of Radical Highway in this campaign. Sonic was first playable in Green Hill Zone and that stage has been used to absolute beyond death. And Shadow was first playable in Radical Highway so... Maybe get used to seeing it in the future.

If you only want to play Shadow Generations, wait for a sale. The game is way too short to warrant $40. It's otherwise incredible, great stages and gameplay, and very emotional story.
