Not even in my wildest dreams would I have expected to see a perfect race of almost 4 minutes in a Sonic game, 😭 and to finish with a level so well designed that you have total freedom to choose how to pass it.
"Hey boss I'm gonna be late today. Why?.... Well... I don't know how to explain this, but... They are doing construction on the freeway?" Used to love this level on Sonic Adventure 2, they did it justice.
The point is to be a triumphant final push at the height of his power. I DO like that rankings and times are separated tho. The wings break stages completely lol

There were three reasons I did this: 1: With Black Doom taunting Shadow the entire game to "embrace his powers", I figured that there might be some kind of alternate "good ending" where Shadow's careful use of his Doom abilities would allow him to resist Black Doom's influence at the final fight. 2: If I were to watch someone else play this, I'm almost positive they would've kept the Doom Wings on by default. I mean, who WOULDN'T want to embrace that new ability? (I know it's rhetorical, but the answer is me.) 3: I was tired of dying at one of the horizontal bars right before hitting a checkpoint and having to see that "I'll overcome every obstacle... with this power!" mini-cutscene every restart. That being said, Radical Highway gave me a horrible first impression without the Doom Wings (especially Act 2). Seeing others agree that the stage is hard to S-rank makes my frustration feel justified. Sweet runs, btw.
Awesome run -- I just spent a good amount of time trying Act 2 without wings and shaving down my time. A lot of things in this video I'm going to implement next time. I will be copying: 1. Your path around the water at 5:14 (I also spammed chaos spear at the big enemy while waiting for the explosion lol) 2. Dropping down at 5:45 is genius, I didn't even see that. And skipping the second big dude at 5:56 -- didn't even think of that. 3. 6:08 spring -- and now I wonder if you can jump off the rail at 6:10 to homing attack the spring and save 1.5 seconds of grinding in that circle? Also, you can save yourself 5 seconds at 6:52 by jumping down to the right instead of running up the loop! Love how well designed these 2 levels were -- I was so happily surprised when I realized Act 2 was a 3D level!!!!
The skill on display in this video is supernatural. And here I didn't even realize that pathway from the start even existed, and that was just the beginning.

It took less tries than Act 1, but that was mostly because of your guide. Thanks a bunch! I wasn’t as fast as yours, clocking in at three second slower on Act 1, and nine seconds slower than your time on Act 2, but I managed to squeak by. Again, thanks a bunch, and Happy Halloween!
Also figured out a cool thing with shadows side dodge if yu keep boost active while you use right bumber as long as its angled correctly you can use it like sonica drift normally you can't control your direction you'll slide to the side and then straight, but if boost is active you can control your slide it looks sick when his shoes ignite while you're boost sliding
I actually did this stage without the wings first because I believed if you used the wings, you'd get a bad ending so I put myself though hell for something that isnt even a thing XD Worth it though
1:13 There is a sign right here you can boost jump and homing attack to which will skip that entire section below and it cuts off an insane amount of time. This skip combined with the skip at 1:30 practically guarantees an S Rank as long as you play the rest of the level well. Its insane how missing this one cut makes getting the S rank ridiculous even if you take all of the other cuts. 4 minutes seems to be the cut off for the S rank even if you grab as many rings as possible. After realizing that cut was there and nailing the last ramp without stopping, I was able to get my time down from 4:09 to 3:46.
I spammed Radical Highway as a kid, you could do a figure after a specific railgrind and if i missed that i would restart lol. Anyway the work they have put in those are astonishingly dope !

I don't mind reusing stuff as long as it's different enough and isn't constantly being used in repetitive scenarios. Radical Highway was used way too much. I'm fine with it being in Space Colony Ark and having it as the final stage, but they should've either used different stages like Westopolis and White Jungle as transition areas or nixed it after the one on Space Colony Ark and had Black Doom encounter us on the actual stages while warping those said stages. The game is excellent otherwise besides some personal issues. Great difficulty, level designs are near perfect, and the bosses feel strong and intimidating. I'm just surprised by how good some people are already when I'm complete crap at both games 😅 First time fully playing console Gens btw.
I think the idea is that radical highway is black doom's domain of sorts, which is why he has full control of the zone. but yeah it does get a little samey, tho I didn't mind it personally since the time of day and gameplay is different each time

I got a time of 3:54.36 in Act 1 without the Doom Wings, and I STILL got an A Rank instead of an S Rank somehow. Can someone please explain what I'm doing wrong?
I might be able to help a bit, I have no definitive answer, but I think it has something to do with hidden factors, like how many enemies you kill or the paths you take, because I was testing something and I took a much slower path, I even died, I got a time of 4:29:77, and it said I needed to be 3 seconds faster to get an S rank, so you might have to change up strategy
What about your ring count? Your rings help you improve your rank. When it tells you how much faster you need to be for the next rank, it’s taking into account the rings you have. It’s basically saying you need to be about 25 seconds faster with the rings you have. If you never got hit and had something very close to the same amount shown in the video, I don’t know what to tell you.
bro i thought it was 3:45:00 to S rank this stage i got a 3:43 after so long but the fact i still had 13 seconds it seems wouldve made my day easier lmao edit: just got 3:37.30 :'))
I only have a 4:07 and I'm playing on ps5 and it says next rank in 25 seconds. So for me that's a 3:42. I was only looking at this cause I couldn't figure out how a 3:42 would be possible. Maybe the time is wrong for the rank.

@@parsashirali8957 If you die in shadows story you can still get the s rank. There's not a perfect bonus like in sonics story. I got the s rank on biolizard hard mode and died on the final part. You don't get rings for hard mode.
What sucks about this game is that: for anyone who's already bought sonic generations. This can't be purchased as an extension. Meaning you have to buy the game you already have AGAIN to get this part of the story. you basically have a redundant story that you've played before. Would've been better if they (a) make it a DLC to the original game. (b) make shadow generations it own game. or (c) make it so that it's not the price of 2 games combined But no. they're not gonna give us that And I'm still salty that we don't get playable sonic vs shadow on this side of the story also emerl being hyped but not even in the game
The sonic generations part of the game is worth it since they redid classic sonic physics to match the genesis games and you got the frontiers control setup now. Sonic Generations is way more fun now imo

Kinda sad we didn't get Westopolis instead of Radical Highway. Like I know Radical Highway is more iconic, but Westopolis is THE stage that begins Shadow the Hedgehog where he first met Black Doom. Really make it a "end it where it all began" sort of thing. Also the Westopolis theme is better than Radical Highway's, in my opinion.

The Doom Wings make this stage too broken, easy and exploitable. But on its own, while cool, it also convoluted and Radical Highway has been way too overused throughout the game. Every single 2D stage can get the boot. Space Colony Ark 2 is literally a Forces stage, so it's trash.
While yes, Space Colony Ark Act 2 is......basic, it's still somewhat fun and hell, the rest of the 2D stages are fun and I don't normally enjoy Boost mechanics in 2D but these are fun

I only have a 4:07 and I'm playing on ps5 and it says next rank in 25 seconds. So for me that's a 3:42. I was only looking at this cause I couldn't figure out how a 3:42 would be possible. Maybe the time is wrong for the rank.

@@remnantofthefirstworld2930 The games only based off of time. That's how it was in the original game also. Sometimes I had a lot of rings and that doesn't make a difference. I think they just screwed up the s rank times for it.
@@parsashirali8957 If you die in shadows story you can still get the s rank. There's not a perfect bonus like in sonics story. I got the s rank on biolizard hard mode and died on the final part. You don't get rings for hard mode.

What sucks about this game is that: for anyone who's already bought sonic generations. This can't be purchased as an extension. Meaning you have to buy the game you already have AGAIN to get this part of the story. you basically have a redundant story that you've played before.
Would've been better if they
(a) make it a DLC to the original game.
(b) make shadow generations it own game.
or (c) make it so that it's not the price of 2 games combined

Shadow is worth $50 in my opinion. Quality over quantity
The sonic generations part of the game is worth it since they redid classic sonic physics to match the genesis games and you got the frontiers control setup now. Sonic Generations is way more fun now imo

Kinda sad we didn't get Westopolis instead of Radical Highway. Like I know Radical Highway is more iconic, but Westopolis is THE stage that begins Shadow the Hedgehog where he first met Black Doom. Really make it a "end it where it all began" sort of thing. Also the Westopolis theme is better than Radical Highway's, in my opinion.
Or they could've put Westopolis in place of that Sunset Heights trash from Forces.

While I agree Forces wasn't a good game, I do like what they did with Sunset Heights here. Makes something bad into something good, like they did with Kingdom Valley.

I hate radical highway for 2 reasons getting S rank is practically impossible as if I attempt to swing early like this guy did it always fails
And I'm gonna say it this is by far the worst remaster I've played and I usually am happy to play sonic games but this one just annoys me to the core with ridiculous ranking system and just over all I don't like the physics in shadows part however sonics part works fine everytime I do something with shadow his inputs are always delayed when sonics isn't delayed for me on ps5 anyway I hope they fix some of this because I want to enjoy it but finding it hard to do so and boy do I feel like a IGN reviewer right now

Just follow the video's route and you'll be fine. Act 1's time is more difficult imo, but not impossible

This is nothing new for any game in like the last however many years. It's frustrating for those waiting till the 25th or even Christmas and beyond sure but it is unfortunately the way of it.
The game is officially out for those with the deluxe edition. I'm not a big fan of that model but it's SEGA's choice.
If you are gonna buy the game, I suggest to not search Sonic X Shadow Generations because ofc there will be spoilers

The fact that it’s region-locked in some regions makes it worse.
The Doom Wings ruined this level for me. To be honest I wish the wings weren’t in the game at all, but I can see people having fun with them.

Also, there's literally an option to turn on/off the Doom Wings, you don't have to use them.
The Doom Wings make this stage too broken, easy and exploitable. But on its own, while cool, it also convoluted and Radical Highway has been way too overused throughout the game.
Every single 2D stage can get the boot. Space Colony Ark 2 is literally a Forces stage, so it's trash.

While yes, Space Colony Ark Act 2 is......basic, it's still somewhat fun and hell, the rest of the 2D stages are fun and I don't normally enjoy Boost mechanics in 2D but these are fun

And The same goes Space Colony Ark Act 2. You're just so used to this garbage, you think it's acceptable. They're not fun, they weren't in Colors and they weren't in OG Gens either.
