Alba is pure dynamite! What a talented young lady! She's great on trumpet and a great (And I mean great) singer. I wish we could see her in this country.
Dude... it blows me away! Incredible what this guy (Joan Chamorro) does with these kids. Not to mention... Basie would hire this band to play for him! What a sound!
How can anybody not like like this group of young jazz musicians who give it everything they've got, are enjoying themselves and each and every one of them master their instruments, not to mention the ever green Scott Hamilton one of the finest tenor saxaphones around since the 1970s. Glad to know that albums from Jan Domenech/Joana Casanova are in the pipeline and further out perhaps Joan Marti, Elsa, Victor, Abril, the other Alba, and maybe some of the others as they mature? All the SAJB musicians merit their own albums and it's going to become a fabulous collection in time. Joan Chamorro is going to be busy for at least the next 10 years and way beyond with the next generation of the SAJB. No possibility of retirement for him!
Abril has left the band--is now fronting her own blues band, even though she's one of the best drummers that the SAJB has had. I think Alba E. should be next...........she's done a great job supporting everyone else!
"...Joan Chamorro is going to be busy for at least the next 10 years..." ¿Tan sólo los próximos 10 años...? Te has quedado corto Ronald... ¡Jajaja! Creo que deberá continuar por muchos más años y también en su próxima encarnación. Un afectuoso abrazo.
What Joan has achieved with this band is extraordinary - one of Alba's best performances; and what more can be said about the great Scott Hamilton - he brings his best to every performance
There are so few in the comments mentioning Scott Hamilton (yes, Don Gaetano, ' that Handsome Well Dressed guy in the gray suit and tie playing the first sax solo') He played with musicians as Benny Goodman, Rosemary Clooney, Harry Edison, Roy Eldridge, Illinois Jacquet, Vic Dickenson, Jo Jones, Woody Herman, Tony Bennett, Gerry Mulligan, Flip Phillips, Maxine Sullivan, Buddy Tate, Warren Vache, Anita O’Day, Hank Jones,John Bunch, apart being a bandleader for now over 40 years. He is one of the best tenor players in Jazz today. Strange that somehow not many mention him in the comments. And with 'ever green' very well described by fellow Ferreira Ronald.
I've found this is a 'cover' for Sarah Vaughan's recording and I enjoy this as much if not more with the enthusiasm of the young band! Alba you are truly marvelous and great solos from Joan and Scott.
Wow, can Alba belt out a song! Tremendous singing performance. It's easy to think of her as more shy and quiet , but given the right arrangement--and obvious energy from the band, the legendary Scott Hamilton, and of course, Joan Chamorro--she has progressed wonderfully into an all-around singer. Try to wrap your head around that fact that she was all of 15 years old at this performance. I'm tempted to think of her as a "young" Andrea Motis--but Andrea is still only 24!
Most certainly, she was 17 yo. at that concert in late 2018 (10 at the 2011 Jazz Fest), but that doesn't take away anything from her accomplishments! (2010 Tea For Two ua-cam.com/video/aoPBfsYSDeU/v-deo.html is a good pointer to a birthdate in the second half of 2001)

It's ALL about the music. You can read the enthusiasms on the kids, on Chamorro's face and most of all on Scott Hamilton's big smile. A pro of this caliber encouraging a new generation to this extent...it's all about the music for all of them and it's impressive.
Just how does Joan do this? How do you take a shy looking young woman like Alba and give her the self confidence to belt out this song fronting a big band with real gravitas, the guy's a genius!
This was the last song written by Jerome Kern; he died shortly before the 1946 production of Showboat.opened. Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein. How much do we owe to the writers? ASCAP's motto is "It all begins with a song.'" And this is the music they were writing in 1946, shortly after World War II. All musicians and vocalists, arrangers, etc. we owe a huge debt to the writers as well as the players and vocalists. It gladdens my heart that Joan and his kids continue to honor the folks, who "start it all with a song" and Mr. Kern and Mr. Hammerstein, take a bow.
Ray, if I had caught your post I would never have written my own above. Sinatra called K&H "that untouchable duo." Joan does a tremendous job in paying homage to the greats...and makes his kids the surrogates, extending them into the future.
Ooh that tasteful big band intro! Very smooth..😍 (I pressed 'like' instantly) and then aah that smokey voice of Alba, and those stunning sax solos, and those delightful dancing moves of Director Chamorro... Love, Love, Love!!! 😍😘🙏
Alba sings this beautifully, with force and intensity. The sax solos are also remarkable, and after Joan Marti's solo, he gets some well deserved applause from Scott Hamilton who obviously is able to appreciate what a good sax solo is...
Alba Armengou cresce a cada interpretação. É muito gratificante ouvir "Bossa Nova", na sua voz. Ela canta otimamente bem, português perfeito, além de conseguir nos repassar toda a magia da "Bossa Nova". Agora, em "Nobody else but me", dá simplesmente um show de interpretação.
Amazing Alba!! You’re vocals are wonderful! This performance rivals the great Rita Payes’ version! Thank you Joan for your band and the talents you all share! Congratulations!
OMG Joan and his band just keeps getting better! Alba is growing by leaps and bounds, she' seemingly has no ceiling and really feels what a jazz vocal is all about. This is not an easy song to sing. A couple new trumpets added to the section and except for the great Scott Hamilton, these are all his students!!! It's already a swingin' professional jazz band. Scary what their future holds. And Mr. Monne, you are an incredible arranger, totally musical and melody and swing conscious. Thank you Joan Chamorro, thank you for what you do. Immeasurable what influence you are having over the musical community and how many young musicians you are creating all over the world..
Great great great! The arrangement, vocals by Alba, and the sax solos are wonderful. These young players in this group show a very impressive level of musical ability and groove.

I’m sure he will never forget you and your work with Joan. Telling everyone how lucky he was, how you inspired him by your example.

I love shot of Scott Hamilton broadly smiling at the young alto sax player during his solo! That is what you are doing is all about! Bravo!.
