In the early run of the 32 Ford made many production changes on the fly therefore early production cars have some rare pieces. Also you needed to highlight the white walls they were not a option in 1932 black walls only, almost every restored 32 has white walls. My dad has a early built roadster and it has sidemounts and what’s interesting is that it does not attach to the cowl it has a model A style support that comes up through the fender, Ford scrapped that early in production. Thanks for video. Long live the Deuce!

Love the comment about "wrecking" an original hot rod and bringing the age old controversy full circle . Really nice info on this, great to see how your own choices to hot rod have also lead to the knowledge of what was original. Lots of room for both, and to tell the truth I have sometimes had fantasies of restoring modified back to original (hope that doesn't get me kicked out of the Garage )

Matt, The 2 rubber pieces on the back panel cushion the rear window when the top is down. The 2 chrome pieces you referred to as handles are actually for the top to lay on when it's down. Love your show. Steve

Ok to Hot Rod it, just do not cut anything off or modify the body. Remove orig, parts and bolt on aftermarket upgrades/ personalzation.

Interesting to see the history of a car that is pretty much stock when it was sold new. It is interesting to see what people experienced when our society was at that point in our history and one can wonder the new car euphoria when this vehicle was delivered at the showroom.

The reason everyone is "out of stock" on those "modernized" cutouts is that the guy who invented/made/sold then has died. His Name was Tom Wessenberg from Minnesota, I believe. Used to read all of his posts on the "Ahooga" Model A Website. RIP Tom !!
The "banger" (4 cylinder) motors WILL really lug down and continue to pull. They have soooo much torque with their 4.125" stroke. The Model A goes into third gear at 20 miles per hour and pulls all the way up to 55 MPH. Even up "slopes" !!
Have to say, this "B" is SOOOOO much quieter in every way than a Model A !!! The A has so much more engine and gear sound. Even the good running ones. "Henry's Lady" was a huge improvement over the Model T but the 32 was about another whole time as big an improvement over the A. Everyone has always said (going back the 60+ years that I have been hearing about these cars) the 32 is so much better and quieter than the A. This proves that out. Thanks Matt and Mike for this "Cool" video !!!

Tardel did a coupe that was a hot ro done specifically so you could reverse the modifications. It was done with period hot rod pieces that were bolt ons. The engine of course was a modified V8 flathead, the trans was a 39 with 2 synchros. (2nd &3rd)

Got arrested and his mom sold it for 25$ bail money lol says how long ago. The guy that bought it completely restored it to as factory condition. It's a parade car in a local parade every year for the past 50+ years.

If the Charging Diode fried up, it wasn't getting enough air flow to keep it cool under the original style regulator cap. They need, either a mount with fins as a heat sink or a means to use heat conducting paste to the car keep them cool. Anyone who has owned a Vintage triumph motorbike will know the dreaded words "Zenor diode"

I have seen very few 20's to 30''s cars. Most of them have been changed over the years due to repairs or painting for whatever reason. The way I look at it, its your car do with it as you see fit. Also I am sure that other people could have bought that same car of yours. Change it, sell it or hot rod it, either way I will watch to see if I can get any pointers...lol.

In other words they're having a shit hemorrhage!
When you started talking about the value of the stock parts, I thought, "He's gonna part it out and keep the bones for a project!".

This a typical older restoration where the twin sidemounts, cowl lamps luggage rack and whitewalls, were fitted to gain points when being judged. I agree with the view that this car is not original, so its an excellent basis for a forties style rod.

Make it a Model 18 Roadster "sleeper", without changing the looks, the car is pretty, make it a more desirable piece, so if you want to "flip it", it will be an easy sell for good price... How many stock Model 18 roadster are out there?... you most likely have all the parts in your stash anyway.

I think that is a stunning car. I would leave it essentially as it is and drive the wheels off it. The only thing I don't like is the rather useless rumble/dicky seat in the back. I wonder if it is possible to remove it and fit another trunk lid hinged the other way, so you have some decent luggage space but at the same time make it a reversible mod. I am all for little things that make the car more drivable, safe or comfortable and these are not super rare cars.

Despite what the purists may think and say , if it wasn't for Henry Ford being a very early racer there wouldn't have been a Ford Motor Company as it was funded in the beginning by his race winnings , and his winning cars attracted the investors . Secondly , a Deluxe roadster with dual side mounts and a B motor was very possible as the V8 had numerous teething problems in '³2 and the four banger was a proven design . Then there was the old " you'll just get your fool self killed going that fast " school of thought . Part of an actual argument between my Dad and grandmother back in 1939 , he was 16 she was 63 years old .

@IronTrapGarage glad u answered so quickly....I've worked on cars, planes, trains, trucks, am 71yrs old....still wrenching....the hot rods are nice, freedom to explore....putting a road worthy vehicle together is the point of engineering....and can be done with common sense and good taste....you guys are young and got energy and time and a few bucks....spend it all wisely....and yeah....modern chassis work, at highway speeds much better than the old stuff....
