Girl. Send this ENTIRE VIDEO to Posh customer service! EVERYTHING you said is spot on! So well articulated and hit the nail on the head with the inactive closets, the overwhelming app (for buyers and sellers), and the lack of offering a nice, clean, streamlined platform - again for both thr buyers and sellers. We should ALL have a say! Great video! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
My hope is that this little experiment opened their eyes to some of the flaws they have. The shame of it is - it feels like not addressing some of the issues is literally leaving money on the table! Like, yes, it might be 3 solid weeks of dev work, but if they can get the closets back up to what they were before live shows, and keep live shows thriving, it'll MORE than pay for itself in a few weeks!
Completely agree with everything you said. And yes, the home page is too overwhelming. I was a shopper on PM long before I was a seller. I can tell you as a shopper I despise the promoted closet stuff. As a seller I get it and understand but as a shopper if I am specifically looking for a green sweater I don't want a ton of blue jackets popping up. I don't think I've ever clicked on something that came up as promoted when it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. I just get frustrated seeing rows of items that don't match my criteria.
In addition...I try to watch some of the thrift ing influencers non YT to see what's trending. Some are basically a commercial for ThredUp. A great way to advertise. Maybe PM does have that kind of agreement with someone but I haven't run across it yet. Its good marketing. And absolutely get rid of the stale closets. Such a deal breaker for someone shopping there for the 1st or even 2nd or 3rd time.
You know - Threadup, while not an outlet I'd ever sell through - I don't think they pay much of anything for inventory - BUT as a buyer, it's pretty great. They have some really cool tools for discovery. I definitely echo your thoughts on the promoted closet. If I have to guess, the ads use the same algorithm as the search function....if it was well targeted, I'd have NO problem paying for them!
Agree with all your suggested changes. Maybe add also a limit for offers. Although I always counter, a $5 offer on a $80 list price is just a waist of time for everyone. Thanks love your videos
Great video! Goes into effect tomorrow on the 24th. My sales tanked after the buyer fees. I've never been thrilled about the 20% but I had my numbers and business model on those variables!
OMG am I losing my mind?! I could have sworn it was today!!! I mean, sure - we all wish it was less than 20%, but I'll take that over the 40% minimum from a place like TRR ANY day.
@@JMSquaredVintage Absolutely!! I think I mentioned I started cross listing to my own site since I already have about 500 emails with my customers who buy my skin care! I actually ran a test to see what the feedback was to adding a little thrifting threads collection and 100% feedback was positive! Obviously I won't get the 80 million people traffic that Poshmark can bring in but I do have more control and can offer my customers, sales and shipping discounts etc! Also, my buyers on Poshmark and eBay will get a little QR code sticker on their package directly to my site😁 BTW we're all losing our minds lol! 😉
I always enjoy hearing your educated take in stuff like this. And you are the first person I've seen on UA-cam that acknowledged the comps being affected by live shows! I've been saying this all along but when I see others checking comps in their haul videos, they just seem so confused about why they're all over the map. 🤦🏻♀️ Thank you for sharing your thoughts!!
There was NO way they were going to keep that around! It would be seriously nice, though. And for REAL on the sold comps. It hurts us, but it ALSO hurts them! It'd be well worth the investment on their part to figure out how to separate those two - or suppress the auction solds. Honestly, I just think their development team has been hyper-focused on keeping the live shows afloat (I think they're a really resource-heavy feature), vs correcting for the effects of the lower priced sales.
Hi Julia Whew no wonder my sales are at a standstill with Poshmark . Dead for a week now and I was on a roll before. I hate the shows for 2 reasons. Most are so unprofessional and selling things at low costs. So buyer thinks they can low ball you. I hate when if you sell something on eBay and if someone likes your item on Poshmark you can’t delete it on posh to say it has been sold. I find the more questions a buyer asks you it is for sure when they buy the item it will be returned. I try very hard to be a good seller but find Poshmark not being a good reliable source
It'll bounce back. It will. If you ever have that happen, where you sell something on ebay, and it's got an active offer on Poshmark, all you have to do is change the size of the item on Poshmark (I always go drastic - make it an XXS or 4XL) You'll be able to take down the listing after you do that. ...and you're right - over the years of online selling, most of us can sense a problem buyer from the first contact. It's like that in all forms of business too - your most demanding clients are the ones who try to crush you in negotiations. The clients that just sign with your proposed rate are the easiest to work with.
It would really be helpful to the buyers if poshmark didn't put out commercials that say yoi can but things for 90% off retail. That can be confusing and disappointing when buyers find that to not be true in most cases. Its almost false advertising in a way. Why would they even do that when they don't even set the prices??
IMO they need to stop messing with things that are working, or at least decent in terms of operation. They need to start fixing issues with the platform. The app is so cumbersome and there are lots of issues across tge website and app that would, make the experience for everyone better. I saw less traffic overall in my closet with the fee change. But I was also super busy and not on the platform as much. I was pressed for time and had to make a couple cancellations, so that may have been the bigger issue for me.
Ugh - yeah, I do think they ding you for the cancellations - but I think traffic as a whole was down. SO many buyers on Posh are also sellers, so this bad chatter took a bite out of everything!
So I wonder how long it's going to take them to recover from that fiasco. They must have really had a decrease in revenue to switch back so fast. I don't think complaints matter like they were claiming. They were losing money.
Yep - that's my guess. If they were making more money with the fee change, they'd have let the community yell until their faces turned blue and kept on trucking...
Mercari’s fee change is better than what Poshmark did tbh. They have zero seller fees so sellers can actually drop prices drastically. Poshmark added a $1-$3 royalty on their fee structure so sellers couldn’t even drop prices that much to make up for the buyer fees. I can’t believe they worked on that horrible fee structure for a year. They could have been doing something more productive to help the app in that time.
Thank you!!! That Matcha is just ground green tea leaves! I do a few scoops of Matcha, mix it with some hot (not boiling) water, mix in my sweetener (I'll do Honey or Stevia...some people add in flavors, but that's not my thing), and pour it over 2% milk (some people do oat milk / almond milk / whole milk). It's delicious! ...and the caffeine in it is a much smoother boost than coffee.
I would bet this isn’t the end of changes stay tuned more to come ,and posh should really work on their search engine it doesn’t work correctly I don’t care how many key words you use❤
100%! I really hope they make some investments in the search and filter functions - there would be SUCH better sales across the board if people could find what they want faster...and THEY benefit from that too!
...this is a totally fair method for bid making! I can't imagine many sellers out there declining an offer with that logic! Alas, you're keyed in to the world of sellers, and the VAST majority of buyers are not. They just see another fee and split!
💯agree with everything you said!! I don’t mind paying a seller fee where they provide the audience and honestly makes shipping super easy with materials provided by usps for free. The free shipping materials and specific shoe boxes is probably my fav thing about PM. The Home Page is an absolute joke and I never go there. The size thing, so frustrating. When I was first on Depop, it felt like the Wild West with offers and putting in bags without buying. I’m a seller but honestly have been enjoying being a buyer on there. Some of the people have very nonchalant attitude towards shipping times but overall my favorite platform to buy on. Also like that you can’t check sold comps within the app(as far as I can tell). Makes each sale stand on its own.
1,000 percent this! I think Depop is gaining some ground, and their interface is just so clean. I DO love my free priority mail shippers. I wish other platforms would get on board with it...such a better experience for the buyers too...
I have my fingers crossed that buyers might come back with a vengeance tomorrow when the buyer fee disappears. My month has been on par if not a bit better than previous months. Hopefully we’ll just keep rolling.
A simpler interface and a more robust search would go miles to improving Poshmark. I feel like the "feed" page is meant to show off every single trick available and just ends up being a confusing, unfriendly mélange.
I was actually selling more under the new fee structure. I also think in a business you need to allow change for more than a couple weeks to determine next steps. Seems like a knee-jerk reaction.
YAY! I knew there were some folks out there thriving under it! Hopefully your momentum keeps up through the change back! All around, these were knee jerk reactions. Giving enough notice to your community is just so so important.

Yes! You should be on Poshmark payroll.
Agree with everything you said! Let’s hope things go back to normal for both buyers and sellers.
My fingers are crossed FOR SURE!

ABSOLUTELY. I love this feature on Mercari - it saves everyone the time.
Everything you said is 100% accurate and TRUE!!! I hope Poshmark see this ….
If I had to guess, they've been hearing this from a LOT of people over the past few weeks.
I so agree with you, especially with the inactive closets. They need to do something about that!
I so agree! As a buyer not seller, the search function sucks. I never get what I search for just a bunch of other random stuff
So, so frustrating.

I so love this hustle. SO love it! Are you able to stay within Shopify Basic?

Sidenote - I'm really bummed they took away the discounted shipping. I would've liked to see that stick around until after the holidays!
There was NO way they were going to keep that around! It would be seriously nice, though.

Excellent analysis…and your suggestions are terrific!
Thanks! Clearly, I have a LOT of thoughts about it. 🤣🤣🤣
I hope they see this. A lot of really on point issues and resolutions to these issues. Great video!
Thank you so much!!!

And it attracts cheap low quality buyers to the app
...louder for the people in the back! Again - these low price buyers affect THEIR bottom line too! If we can sell higher, THEY get more money too!
IMO they need to stop messing with things that are working, or at least decent in terms of operation. They need to start fixing issues with the platform. The app is so cumbersome and there are lots of issues across tge website and app that would, make the experience for everyone better.

Remember: it's all about poshmark making money. They probably lost money and that's why they changed back so quickly.
agreed the my size tool is not helpful at all - I don't know anyone who is the same size in every brand ( must be men who built this....)
🤣🤣🤣🤣 ABSOLUTELY.
