  • The Rocket Engine is our modular Rocket Heater J Tube that runs a variety of handy attachments including this side loading kiln, seen here being loaded for a test firing at Wheaton Labs in summer of 2023. We were experimenting with firing ash to see if we could make cement out of it. We've used this little kiln for firing pottery, melting aluminum, and forging mild steel (barely). We look forward to improving the Rocket Engine and Mini Fridge Kiln and coming up for more uses for them. Stay Tuned.

Interesting. You still in the Cleveland area doing any workshops and such? Would totally like to take part.
Very intrigued by your modular kiln, forge, crucible concept discussed on forums. Do you have more information and results on that? Brilliant concept I was just thinking of tonight and learned my neighbor did it! Bless your ingenuity sir!

Thank you for watching. The fancy video about the forge is still with the editor but here is a teaser for it ua-cam.com/video/L2DhzqIp3oY/v-deo.html&pp=ygUNcGVybWllcyBmb3JnZQ%3D%3D Drop me an email at info@unclemud.com and I will let you know as our calendar comes together. Too cold to do much other than plan right no but we are doing some work on the kiln rocket coming up here in the next week or two.

Why block off the top when starting the fire?

Blocking off the top of the feed tube lets me force the intake air through the coals which helps burn them away before they build up and clog the throat of the burn chamber. That isn't a super problem in the normal course of burning a rocket heater gently to heat your home but the coals can really build up on a long hard burn to fire a kiln.

Thank you for watching. Forcing the intake air through the cleanout port low on the front helps burn the coals which keeps them from clogging the heater on a long hard burn like we use to fire the kiln
