Hello friends, I have finally got my sew mojo back enough this week to finally complete my #simplicitypatterns #S8640 It was an easy pattern but I'm not sure if it is right for me. The fabric I used was a thrifted bed sheet in 100% cotton. It came together well, the pockets were to low for me. I was barely able to put my hands in them. I took off the pockets and shortened it about 5 inches and it is much better.

    It looks very comfortable,
I haven't made any clothes for myself for a while, but have enjoyed watching # Fridays a lot and are thinking about doing it again.

Thank you for watching. I started sewing clothing just 4 years ago with a Cosplay outfit for my Oldest Daughter. Slowly, very slowly started making regular clothes for myself and my girls. It is very enjoyable when things come out right and fit. lol.

I love the adjustments you did on the dress! Being 5'3'' I need to raise the pockets often hihi! Thanks for sharing!

Hope your daughter gets a role in the next one. I couldn’t imagine how much energy raising 3 teens would take.

I'm so sorry this didn't work out for you. I'm 5'6 ½" and I always make the tunic length - that hits me right at the knee. Depending on the fabric I've taken 2-3" out of the center back seam, so that really makes a difference. I always make it sleeveless too, so the addition of the sleeves may throw off the bustline fit. I recently made it for my daughter and she didn't like it - so it's not for everyone. If you try it again, I'd do it in a softer fabric that has an overall pattern. You never know, you might fall in love!

Thanks Jen, Those are great tips. I do believe I made the shorter version, but not totally sure. I do like it better with the changes I made. I may fiddle with the neck line and the sleeves. It is wearable I think.

If the size of the dress fits you might need a narrow shoulder adjustment

That may help some. I'm not sure if I'm going to make it again. But I will find another Big 4 pattern and keep sewing. Next time I may measure the pattern pieces before I sew it up.

Hi Cynthia. I had to alter this pattern a lot but it was definitely worth it. It can easily go frumpy. At least that’s how I felt in my first version. I lowered the neckline made the inseam pockets and curved in the waist. Did you cut the front on the bias? Hard to see with that fabric . I would take the sleeves off and dye the dress. I am only 5ft 3 in and I took a lot of off the bottom of the dress. The refashion is much better.
    Have a great weekend. ❤️🧵

Great idea. I may lower the neck and do a bias binding. I did not cut the pattern on the bias or at least i did not mean to. Hard to tell with a sheet. I may shorten the sleeves and take in the waist. Great ideas.

@@creativemommaof3241 HI, the bias makes the top of the dress fit to your body as there are no darts. Those of us who are well endowed need something!! It really makes a lot of difference. But I do understand that when your expectations are dashed it is difficult to find to sewjo to tackle the same project again. When I saw the first image it I thought OOOO she put ruffles on the end of the sleeves so cute. It was an illusion with the camera angle but now I have to try it.🤣 Jen makes all of hers sleeveless (she has the arms for it I do not) I think it makes it a "younger" look. I have done both and the sleeveless is worn more often. If you are game try a stripe, that bias makes it fun.

I'm sorry that this pattern didn't work for you. I have made two in really drapey viscose so they hang nicely which stop it looking bulky. I'm only 5'2 and do the shorter length version which hits at my knee, really it could be shorter. I have never put those pockets in only side seam pockets as they are ridiculously low aren't they 🤣. Hope your next project is more successful for you. 🌸
