Keyshawn was a representation of the many people that were locked down with their abusers and had no where to go, or a way out during the early part of the pandemic. I understand why she pulled the gun and I understand Diamond's anger. Like, yea, he would've gone to jail for killing that white man. I still want/ed her bf removed from this earth, but in way she did save Diamond from prison. I hope they can reconcile later because I like those two - platonic and/or romantic. I also low key get internalized colorism from Keyshawn, especially with the story she told her daughter and the subtle reference to her daughter having "good hair." Ik the story was about her being trapped/prisoner and finding a way out (Rapunzel), but some of the comments subtly pointed to internalized colorism.

I loved this season opener. It gave us more background to the characters. Keyshawn is going to be a problem only because she is going to try to find her freedom. I feel like the same thing will happen with her putting someone in danger, but this time someone is going to die. I wonder if Lil Murda is going to be figured out this year. I know him and Uncle Clifford is going to get back together in some way.

Also that scene with the guy not realizing the mayor had passed- i think that was a depiction of how having to be on lock affected folks mentally. I remember I stopped watching the news and tried to disconnect mentally because it was overwhelming!

I see Derrick was the only person in that environment that paid her any attention and made her feel important. I wish she really knew her self-worth. There were so many red flags with him early on. I want her to find her strength and leave for her kids.

This is the first show in the entire entertainment industry that addressed the Covid Pandemic. The Pandemic affected the Black community dramatically. It was sobering seeing the food packages, Nurses watching countless deaths, unemployment and the rise of Hustle(Scam) culture. PS, the drive in strip club was first a news story due to an club in Portland.
