Oregon has three times been able to touch a National Championship since 2000, once under Bellotti, once under Chip Kelly and once under Helfrich, each time it slipped away (still steamed over the bad call in the title game against Auburn) but I think Lanning will be the guy to finally get over the hump and add a National Championship trophy in football to sit next to the one in basketball and all the ones in Track for Oregon.

It looked like there was zero effort into preparation for the game, they got blown out. Then they made absolutely zero adjustments going into the second game and it was even worse. I believe he made his decision after the second home game where fans were booing. He has very thin skin and I think it greatly bothered him. Bottom line is he quit doing his job and the fans have every right to be upset. He needed to go and fortunately it wasn’t a drawn out process. He is a bold face liar and I’m not sure if he is the right guy to lead impressionable young men.

He can technically be part of Mike Norvell's tree. That tree is very impressed when you look at it. Memphis was second in number of assistant coaches taken after Alabama since 2014 I believe. Most of those were Norvell's hires. His strength was always replacing the person with someone equally good or better. That rare these days

Riley's offensive production dropped off during his time at OU. We has handed a program in great shape. He is rebuilding USC. Not saying it can't be done but its no slam dunk that he will be successful at USC.

Defense improved marginally in a conference that moved away from the spread offense, theoretically should have been easier to slow down offenses and it never happened. Riley would get flustered and go into play calling blocks where he'd completely abandon the run for 2-3 series at a time. I am not going to say he is terrible but I am not sure he has what it takes to rebuild a program from the ground up.
But Connerly in at LT in that game vs UGA. Get him in there against the second coming of Jesus christ (UGA's front seven) and everything past that will seem like a piece of cake for him

A close but no cigar sort of thing in their best years - followed by a coaching change right away ! --- WHY ??? - It has led to an inconsistent approach of 5 steps forward and 1 or 2 or 3 back - it seems to me ?
Most of that is due to a couple of things. First, Oregon was not paying destination money to coaches. DL is the first time they really reached into their pockets and we still can't say it is upper echelon pay. Secondly, Willie Taggart likely was in cahoots with his and Jimbo's agent to head to FSU when Jimbo decided to leave (foot in and out the door for a couple of years), before he even got to Oregon. Not sure he was ever fully intended on his coaching or hires Here. MC probably would have stayed quite a bit longer if his Alma mater w a lot more money didn't come knocking.
