I played one of these at the Gibson Garage in Nashville last week while vacationing and I really enjoyed the sound and playability of the Songwriter G Series. At a price point of $1,599 I think it is a good deal on a solid wood, American made acoustic guitar.
I just bought the G writer and I've been playing seriously since 1954 and I have to say I had at one time the big priced Songwriter and I'll tell you what I think I like this G Writer even better. I don't think anyone should pay a whole lot of money for a lot of bling if you can get a guitar that functions, plays and sounds like it should without all the bling. The G-Writer with Gibsons Advance profile neck plays better than my 3000.00 Songwriter did, sounds just as good if not better and you save about half of what the Songwriter did. Great job on these Generation series guitars Gibson.
In 2011, the Gibson J-15 sold for around $1200. Included an LR Baggs pickup, Sitka top, Mahogany back and sides, Nitro gloss finish and included a hard cases... So let's be real, the Generations series are subpar quality leveraging the mystique of the built in the USA and the Gibson logo... The Inspired by Gibson Epiphone acoustics are where the quality for value is
A 00 is a teenaged Taylor Mini. A G-45 is a young grown up. They mike well for sure. You are the first ones I've seen who has an actual opinion on the port. The little guy has a lot of low end for it's size.
Have fun with the guitar! I honestly love this series, especially how natural, loud and balanced they sound. Super thin finish, nice wood selection. 🙌 //Kris
Personally I’d rather buy a J-15 that has a full finish with no “ player port “ ( hole in the side) for about $1200. and it comes with an actual guitar case not a gig bag. I made the mistake of buying one of these G-45’s before you could get the J-15 at that price point and I wish I could have waited 6 months. I don’t believe it has enough tone bars , I believe they only have one tone bar and they get overwhelmed too easily in my opinion. I got mine brand new from Guitar Center, I will say it has a phenomenal set up on it, great action and playability. I can’t complain about the playability one bit. It definitely doesn’t have that magic like my 2 Martins have. Ya know when you strum one chord and it sounds like a piano or an organ which is what hooked me into purchasing both of them 10 seconds after strumming the first chord. Too bad the Generation collection doesn’t have that.
They certainly sound great, & this is my style to a T. I can't stand flashy acoustics... unless it's an old Dove or Bird. I'd probably have to get the G-Writer to meet my needs professionally, but I really love that G-00 too. Nice video guys.
Thanks a lot Jeigh! I think you'll really like the G series then. These are straight forward work horses and all 4 models sounded absolutely killer. I wasn't kidding about their open and woody tone. Cheers //Kris
@@ThomannsGuitarsBasses You can hear it in the audio. You did a great job capturing it, from first strum, that tone was front & center. Gibson owes you a commission, I'm going to be picking one of these up. I've got a 66 Dove that I inherited, but I can only use it to record & since I've been incorporating more acoustic into my work lately, it's time to make the plunge. All the thanks go to you amigos!
Which one did you like playing the most out of the 4. And do you really need the electronics or would say a dean Markley pick up do on the 2 non pick up models.
James! Thanks a lot! It was really easy got get inspired for this video. These guitars played like a dream, especially the G-00. Man, that thing... //Kris
Player port 🤔🤔🤔 Looks a little like a tipping port for when you're jamming on 15th and Broadway because of that loan you took to buy a Gibson 🤣 Very nice playing demo from both! It does sound good.
Logically it might seem so. It actually sounds the opposite while playing it. I have an L00 and this new G00. The G00 sounds so much more full. I can’t explain why. I play this new one so much more.

Hey Evan, thanks for watching it! Well, as told in the video the volume of these guitars is more than impressive. Even the 00 is loud, which was a huge surprise. So no issues with that at all. And honestly, what's wrong with having a nicer tone whilst playing your guitar thanks to an extra sound hole? Is it necessary? No. Does it work and improve the experience though? Definitely yes. So why not? Cheers //Kris
@@ThomannsGuitarsBasses I tried one in a store yesterday and wondered why they haven’t been on acoustic guitars from the beginning. What in the world could be gimmicky about a port that lets you actually hear yourself better?
These guitar shops will never give an honest review, have you ever heard them say a guitar is awful, Gibson have been stuck with a load of substandard guitar's and come up with a new gimmick to flog them.

Finally a review of these new guitars that isn't just random banter. Nice work.
Thank you very much Todd, we're glad you enjoyed the video! :) //G

Nice video. I played some of these two days ago and really liked the necks. Smooth, easy players.

you are talking about ~13 years ago mate, things now have been changed
what song r you playing on a g-writer 9:38-10:24?
I love the colter wall in there guys!

I think the video clearly demonstrates a great player can make any guitar sound good. A good talker can sell any guitar
5:14 I mean…wow. No words necessary. There did seem to be a musical “poke” when he hit that pretty chord. Great demo, gentlemen. I bought the 00.
great to see you guys deal with acoustics as well. the tunes are wonderful, thanks for the amazing video!
I bought one of these and quite like it. Nice woods too for a reasonable price.

Se le puede adaptar una pastilla lr Baggs.? De esas que van colocadas en la boca de la guitarra.?

Was that some Colter Wall being played on the G45? Sounded like it, but could be wrong.

Excellent review.
G45 has a longer ring
I not into Acoustic guitars, but these are pretty good. It would interesting to compare these to Martin Guitars.
Kris,
Not usually in to acoustic guitars but the Gibsons were great with additional hole. Great new idea. Awesome.
"new idea"
@@dmcarter1512, yeah. Gibson first tried it in 1964.

Once acoustic Custom Epiphones are released, please review them too! ;)
Love the colter wall
Great video kris..awesome sounding guitars gotta get me one. Thanks for the demo you surely rock it. 2thumbs up.

Lololoooool finally 😄👏👏👏 Guillaume signature 👍😄

Very nice playing demo from both! It does sound good.
What mics are those? Sounds great. Couldn't even finish the video before asking. Perhaps you'll say in the video. :)
looks like km184 Neumann
The close mics are Neumann KM184 and the room mics Warm Audio WA-47jr, both great sounding mics indeed! hope that helps :) //Lukas
@@ThomannsGuitarsBasses thanks a bunch. They do sound good
Bounce and Woody but would you please tune the guitars or is that typical of a Gibson Excellence throughout until it comes to their poxy tuners..
Player port? Or ...Whisky Port! Looks like a 5th would fit real nice in there! lol
Great sounding demo Gentlemen, cheers!
Gibson G-00 o Taylor GS mini koa?
So you can see your pick inside the guitar??? Does grandpa’s guitarss get extra holes for putting candy in?
What is it with grandpa's and hard candy anyhow?
I giggled when I read this.
@@claypoole702 grandpas know the best candy 👍🏽
And they sound like nice guitars -- nothing more, nothing less.
Doesn’t the players port take away from

Does not take away. The G-200, to be specific, is huge-sounding.

Treetop Flyer
look very simple for the expensive one.......what new....its gibson you pay 40% more for the name....50% for the guitar and 10% for the defect
No solo nothc
The side hole is a gimmick. The player hears it better, as if that was ever an issue unless you disabled, at the cost of volume.

Reverend reverend please come quick
Played the L-00 and it sounded terrible, tiny , thin , feels cheap , I am a huge Gibson fan , but these new Generation guitars are terrible
G for garbage. should of been epiphone
g series are yuck. should leave price point to epiphone
Am I the only one who thinks that sound port ruins the look of the guitar? It makes the guitar look like it has been damaged.
well kind of ..you just have to get used to it
