I have a silly story regarding this song. So last year I watched 'Vivarium' for the first time, and it was a phenomenal movie. At the end, I heard this song and I thought "wow this is a really good song." A few months later I discovered XTC by hearing 'Making Plans for Nigel" and I instantly fell in love with the band. Then I decided to listen to their discography and I started with 'Drums and Wires'. At the end I heard this song and was pleasantly surprised to learn that XTC had written it!! Now XTC is my favorite band lol.
I listened to this song 25 times in a row this morning amazed they recorded this in 1979.. It slays anything radio is playing right now musically and lyrically..
CL Young - I couldn’t agree more. I really can’t stop listening to it, it’s an addiction. The first time I heard it, at the end of the movie Vivarium, I thought it had to be a recent song. They were so ahead of their time.
@Chelsea Jeanlouis-Hollis Pretty cool How the Universe takes us to some things on different paths. I've been listening to this song since 1978 when a friend turned me on to it. I found the vivarium version when I searched it to listen recently. Haven't seen the movie yet ,but my friends say I should after I posted it on Facebook. And now I find this gem. I love the visual. It's like when someone throws a monkey wrench in my clown car brain, as it loads and unloads a million things at once

@@samuelhernandez3948 You're welcome. I posted lyrics for many songs on official XTC pages, as well as those of many other artists. Unfortunately, frigging UA-cam decided this past December to turn off comments on all artist pages with album cover art in the video. Literally the worst thing ever to happen on UA-cam, IMO. Half the fun of YT was always commenting, reading lyrics, and interacting with other users, like an actual social media site. 😒
I first heard this song while watching Vivarium and I thought it might be David Bowie so I had to look it up. Never heard of xtc and now I find myself adding songs to my apple library. Damn good song!
First heard this song in the film "vivarium" where it was very dark and appropriate. This is an awesome next-level song and amazed it was recorded in 1979.
Being an XTC fan from that band's beginning through its end, I still think this is one of their greatest songs, ever. I was lucky to see them play live twice, on their tour for this album, Drums & Wires, and the tour for their next LP, Black Sea. There will be no justice in this world until XTC is inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. That's simply a fact. 😎
so many great songs and the production work is outstanding , I heard that Andy Partridge ( writer ) stopped performing discovering his stage anxiety. Surprised to hear they played live ,( maybe without him ?) I know I listened to them live from a radio tour they did , acoustically.
Ahead of its time, but also (as a guy who was in 19 when this was released) very much of its time. Or anyway, it felt that way when I first heard the song a year or two later. And it still does (feel of its time and now)
At the time there was a bit of an underground movement using tape loops. I saw one guy swallow a mic then feed the intestinal sounds thru a couple of tape loops. Heard plenty of great recordings of other artists, so it really wasn't uncommon, just unnoticed
WOW!!! Probably THE best track from XTC or Anyone (it's always the go-to brill track), unreal - but THIS is possibly THE best piece of art I've ever seen to match, why isn't it the official video, FFS??? It's absolutely amazing, context is just perfect! Asking for a friend... Thank you 🙂
Over the years I've introduced XTC to people in my life. I don't want to risk being a musical "Snob" or anything... but I find that most people aren't capable of this level of artistry. Its rather disheartening that I see the magic, and need to keep it to myself.

I could imagine this song playing in a episode of Twin Peaks.
Funny you say that, there was a song at the end of one episode with a similar vibe it’s ‘Axoloyl - The Veils’
StatsReset or Where Is My Mind by The Pixies would've been perfect for an ending of a Twin Peaks episode.
It was used in an episode of Halt and catch fire.
