I came from RC flying, was really surprised this Xmas when I bought ready to fly fpv nano scout from emax. It is harder then I thought. I think for me staying in angle mode and playing with settings in betaflight is really helping. Limiting pitch and roll angle with gyro, and changing throttle middle and exponential.
lol the capacitor thing is funny, i new it was backwards when you said it exploded, reminded me of a memory, this was a common "prank" some classmates use to pull in HS electronics class, wire up a cap then stick it into an outlet, few seconds later loud pop smoke, angry teacher.
In my country in the olden days supposedly they would charge an electrolithic capacitor at a wallsocket and electrocute themselves with it as a prank 😅 by the time I went to highschool the students didn't even know what an electrolithic capacitor was and would forget 2 sec after the teacher told them, so I was safe
If it's about budget, there are a few all-in-one kits (drone/goggles/remote) you can get for indoor flying, like the Cetus X FPV, the Tinyhawks, a few others. They cost around $200, and the drones are so small and light that it's next to impossible to break them. But don't be mistaken, these things are QUICK. And a _great_ way to learn the intricacies of FPV.
After two years FPV quads, I started adding line of sight fixed wing in 2025- because I needed the crushing disappointment of spending half a day building a plane and then smashing it to bits in 1-4 flights. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee But I love building as much as flying so it’s okay I guess.
@@seepel the boxer is a budget radio too tho. I bought the pocket for my son and I for the simulator and then boxer for myself and now upgrading to the gx12 see if I like it better. All better that the betafpv kit we started with. Now starting to buy different goggles just picked up a pair of fatshark hd2 with true d module cheap looking for another pair for my son next. Still cheaper than jumping straight to hd0 and tx16s max to start with lots of options.
Huge empathy towards you, man. I lost my drive after spending over 100 hour fixing my drone and thousands on parts replacement. I feel like I was thrown into cold water and had to learn a lot on my own, even though I had a friend who answered some questions every now and then. Right now I’m almost done with my first 5 inch build so 🎉
Yeah it's not a hobby to jump into unless you're willing to spend the extra cash on inevitable repairs/replacements. A few years ago I spent a few hundred £ on a low-end ready-to-fly FPV kit (Tinyhawk 2 Freestyle) and the anxiety I'd get about crashing cos I knew if I broke it I couldn't afford the replacements _really_ held me back from enjoying it fully. 😕
I support every effort to make the hobby easier to start with and more beginner friendly... Not to sound like a big mean gatekeeper, but IMO some barrier of entry is important. With a 5" quad we're basically controlling a flying blender at like 100mph. It's a very technical hobby no matter how many things are abstracted away. People should be aware of that, otherwise they'll be a danger to themselves and others. That said though, the available help resources have gotten a lot better. Official and open source documentation for ELRS, Betaflight and more provides a ton of great info, and the various guides and tutorials have only grown in count

I’ll say that astrophotography beats out fpv for learning curve and variety of stuff without any compatibility help. Fpv is popular enough to find answers on things you need to make it all work. Astrophotography not really. And I’m not talking about pointing a dslr at the sky or using a smart scope. Astrophotography is also far more expensive even though fpv adds up over time. Taking the photos is probably the easiest part too, compared to the post processing portion to actually have a professional looking image. So while I agree fpv is a big undertaking out of many hobbies, deep diving into astrophotography still tops it.

I largely agree with your video ... except i think that learning how to fly RC helicopters is even harder - for me at least was really really hard to learn. Nose in flying is a challenge but it is way beyond that - watching the good pilots fly, especially the 3D flying pilots had the helis' turned around and upside down, spinning twisting and flipping all over the place - I have zero chance I will ever be able to do that... so at least with the quads you don't have to deal with nose in flying because your perspective is fixed to the drone frame- so right is always right, etc... That said there are a few folks that do 3D flying quads line of sight (LOS) and that is as batshyte crazy as the heli stuff! Simply amazing and awesome to see. If you have not seen a LOS 3D quad fly you are missing out - it is that cool. I am surprised that it is not a bigger part of this hobby.

A bind and fly from iFlight is basically the same price as building it. The best way to avoid all these crashes is to spend a bunch of time in the simulator before you try to fly. Minimum of 20 hours.
@ I think like once before, so it’s not super common, but I was surprised you came in lol cause I know your channel cause I always see your comments man and that song you sent before was sick hahah
It seems like you cursed yourself from the start by not building your own quads. How can you fix one until you understand how they are put together. Glad you stuck with it and eventually built your own.
People hang a lot of sht on the DJI FPV-capable drones but they're doing a lot to make FPV accessible. I reckon the DJI Neo Motion Fly More kit may be the easiest way to get into FPV at the moment. The lack of FPV kits that I could wholeheartedly recommend to a beginner that won't paint them into a gear corner (looking at you analogue video and proprietary radios) is telling of how the other larger players in the FPV market still think. I reckon they need to prioritise lowering the barrier of entry to flying FPV and not building drones or buying the right parts because once you've got a newbie hooked using a great FPV experience, then you can easily sell them more gear and better components, not the other way round.
How the hell you get 135k subs with few dozen videos mostly shorts posted afew months ago and yet someone like madtech who been around for long time and has many full videos has less than half the subs you have and yet puts out great content and mostly all fpv related.. unbelievable! Thought youtube put an end to these scams ages ago lol
For me, most important thing was a good analog camera lol. I used a cheap bad one and when flying outside, it would under expose the whole ground and made me not see anything lol.
@zombietoesofnothing2381 well then you must have either been getting the most premium of premium parts or getting scammed. Hopefully the former. Though I don’t get why you would go for the best of the best only for your 1st setup, I’m beginning FPV and my 1st setup is a cheap betafpv air65, a ts16S transmitter, and a reciver that plugs into your phone. Not even actually goggles.
fpv is extremely skill heavy. luckily the sims are getting really good. once you get like 1000 sim hours and you fly at least 5% of your hours irl, you'll start to be at the level of competence required for serious flying
Hi I was wondering where to start to get into FPV drones or like I would just like some guidance in general when starting to buy drones and the controller and etc if you could respond back to me it would be greatly appreciated
Hey man! So the place you start is going to be the controller. Since that way you can practice a bit with how to fly first. Once you can fly decently in there then you can look at drones! :D I’d suggest maybe a micro drone first? Like a NewBeeDrone to get used to flying irl. Remote wise, I really recommend the RadioMaster Pocket since you can use this with the simulator AND The micro drone and a larger drone if you decide to get a bigger one! :D My shop is www.aetherfpv.com if you get one, let me know here and I’ll throw in a lanyard and gummy bears with your order 😉
@Nick_FPV alright thanks I appreciate the tips wait but is their someway I can dm you if I have more questions like one is I know to do a sim once I get a controller but I have a budget and I want to buy or build a drone I'm happy with so it will be a while before I spend more money on it
If you're thinking about flying fpv, consider all of the stress, frustration and money it will cost. Multiply that by three. Now if you're okay with that, great. If not, it's not for you.
look i just spent like 400 bcks getting into tinywhoops and now i got 2 busted whoops in the first week and iput in a little sim time as well as time on my friends whoop. one came out the box screwed up and i hit a wood post (not even all that hard compared to some of the crashes ive had on my friends) and broke the camera on the other cant wait to get them back in the air again though
ill get into more of this happy once i get a stable job cuz rn im a broke college student lol and fpv is so expensive - doesn't stop me from looking at cheap stuff for now tho and im doing a lot of research!
I love your videos, Nick, I'm also getting into fpv, but I can't afford to buy a real drone or its parts since everything is costly where I live. I'm currently 13 and really want an fpv drone.
13 and stuff is costly too! I highly recommend it and would encourage you to try to save up at least half of a drone, and then ask for your parents to pay the other half for a birthday/religeous celebration (e.g. Christmas). I know it is daunting but it is definitely possible, if that is what you truely desire. A Mob 7 is pretty affordable!
Hey. I’m 15 but started building my drone at 13. It took a year to gather all the parts and knowledge but it is worth it. Your parents might think it a little crazy though. Try get a job, that’s the first thing I did. And buy the parts gradually. If u need a parts list I can help ya if you want
Separates the real people from the frauds. Keep trying failing and learning. Finding a good fpv friend is always good. Learn your stuff DONT EVER be that guy! Have fun most of all!
Fpv is actually just the camera system last time I checked. There is more to FPV than Quads dorexemaple you can do fov with fixed wings which is alot easier. Heck you can do fpv with cars which shouldn't be hard
Nice man! 13 and loving the hobby. Hope you enjoy your real drone and don’t break it on the first try! Top tip - when pulling out the LiPO DO NOR Pull on the cables or the XT30 connector will come desoldered. Don’t ask how I know this 😅😅😅
😅 I flipped a drone for my friend. Whole build was 80 pounds, but I wouldn’t recommend doing it as your first build. But u could try. If ur committed enough. Took about 20 hours though. It was a nightmare. But it does fly very well now. Brought the drone for him on eBay. His kit is an added 120 for headset and controller though so bare that in mind
@@BenGodfrey-js4gg ya don't need goggles till the drone has finished. Get Ur remote first and learn to fly. Then piece together a drone. At least. That's what I did. But it's up to u
Nick can you pls send me a fpv drone any price pls I’ve been flying for 2 years on a busted up snaptain and the propeller keeps falling off i really want googles if possible but want 5 in if possible pls reply I don’t care the answer just have been really wanting one ❤❤❤
I think the learning curve is more so the fixing stuff lol Ya end up flying 25 percent and fixing 75 percent when u are taking risks and learning new things
Guys go watch Joshua Bardwell video before going into fpv or do a bit of research by yourself bc if you don't want to do some now you are not ready to dive into this hobby. Not because it reequires a big brain but because you will crash and rebuilt yourself again and again until you are good at flying. But buying a controller is a good start so go ahead if you can !!
haha i started out the same way with a playstation controller and sim and than a crappy fpv set from market place which mostly in a state of disrepair like goggles with broken fan and fogging screens a quad with a broken camera a radio with a broken battery :D oh also Geprc Mark 5 > Nazgul Evoque because of the slits in the arms for the leds the arms break much faster than on the mark5
Cetus from betafpv if u wanna fly. If u wanna learn all the complicated stuff start building a 5 inch very slowly, its lots of fun, but it will take a good while to complete
Bro u have inspired me so much to start fpv I Love ur channel and my mum ended up buying me the meteor 75 pro from beta fpv and we got scammed my mum now thinks it’s a untrustworthy website and DJI is way to expensive what should I do
@KleinSchwein9999 they gave my mum a shipping code to track it its it’s “not valid” and we have contacted them and all they have said is try the code again
@@namanienie123 trust me and read this, it will help you a lot, I wish I had this when I built my drone save up your money. I had the same problem when I was younger. Get a job as soon as you can. For now. Learn to solder. Lean to solder really really really good. But a cheap 10 pound soldering iron of Amazon. My 5 inch is built completely from this. As well as this. Watch a load of Joshua Bardwell videos. First thing you is the controller. Go for a radio master pocket. ELRS VERSION. Try out some free simulators and learn to fly. Then you should buy is a SpeedyBee f405 flight controller stack. (A flight controller with an esc, make sure it is rated for 50 Amps). Second thing is 4 xing motors (go for 1900kv. I made the mistake of buying 2450 kv and the drone is way too powerful making the learning curve even steeper. I can fly it now. But it took a lot more time and presents further issues now on the type of battery I can run it on and propellers . Third solder the motors onto the esc. Make sure to detach the esc from the flight controller when soldering, 4th buy a receiver. Go for elrs. Now all you need to fly is a headset. Buy a cheap analog one from betafpv. Trust me analog will serve you well, I do not think about switching. Finally you have to buy a camera. I would go with a runcam phoenix 2 and also a vtx. Go for a SpeedyBee one. Solder everything together and put it all together in a SpeedyBee Mario frame. That is a cheap frame (30 pounds) and will do amazing. I am 15 right now and finished my drone a while back. Make sure to practise plenty on the simulator. My drone flies at 120 mph 😅 and it uses those parts. I use a 6s battery from gaoneng. But I would recommend starting with 4s at 1600mah. Ik that’s a lot of info but screenshot it and use it to help you. I wish I’d been told this. Parts are hard to source. Good luck. Reply to me if you have any questions
I’m actually not sure what just happened to mine I had it hanging on a wall and I went to fly it and furring my preflight check before I headed out I discovered my flight controller somehow got wiped and all information is gone causing it to brick:D So I gotta get a new flight controller and for some reason on my micro one of its motors had just decided to die. It was fine a month ago but apparently now is when it wants to have a problem
Might want to consider a sub 250g 3 or 3.5 inch to make everyones life a little easier. Not too many peeps wanting to go the 107 license and remote id shit show. Just saying.
I did too. I spent several hours on lift off. I still have crashed and broken mine many times. On my 3rd avavta 2. Best buy doesn't have it anymore so I'm fixing the one I have now. Broke the top main frame. I'm sure I'm gonna have fun taking it apart
way to make simple things sound like rocket science (edit: ohh now i get it you sell a course and material bahahaha im sure people wont see through you )

@@Nick_FPV Do other people who come into the shop know you too? Or is this the first time you were recognised?
I really want to see someone build a 3inch with the TP3 frame on 4s so small and legal, but super powerful
Change mild for EXTREMELY 😅
How the hell you get 135k subs with few dozen videos mostly shorts posted afew months ago and yet someone like madtech who been around for long time and has many full videos has less than half the subs you have and yet puts out great content and mostly all fpv related.. unbelievable! Thought youtube put an end to these scams ages ago lol
For me, most important thing was a good analog camera lol. I used a cheap bad one and when flying outside, it would under expose the whole ground and made me not see anything lol.
I’m getting a meteor 75 pro can’t wait to try it
There's a lot to learn if you don't know anything about eletronics. But then there's not much
1:07
“It’s just $250”
Bro 😭
Alot better than $1200 that my first setup was
@zombietoesofnothing2381 well then you must have either been getting the most premium of premium parts or getting scammed. Hopefully the former. Though I don’t get why you would go for the best of the best only for your 1st setup, I’m beginning FPV and my 1st setup is a cheap betafpv air65, a ts16S transmitter, and a reciver that plugs into your phone. Not even actually goggles.
I JusT meaNT in CompARisoN To A WholE seTuP
fpv is extremely skill heavy. luckily the sims are getting really good. once you get like 1000 sim hours and you fly at least 5% of your hours irl, you'll start to be at the level of competence required for serious flying
My shop is www.aetherfpv.com if you get one, let me know here and I’ll throw in a lanyard and gummy bears with your order 😉
@Nick_FPV alright thanks I appreciate the tips wait but is their someway I can dm you if I have more questions like one is I know to do a sim once I get a controller but I have a budget and I want to buy or build a drone I'm happy with so it will be a while before I spend more money on it
@ no prob man! Dm on insta nicolasgrant_film
@@Nick_FPV i just dm you
MILDLY infuriating?!?! 😂😂😂 WAAAAY more than that.
If you're thinking about flying fpv, consider all of the stress, frustration and money it will cost. Multiply that by three. Now if you're okay with that, great. If not, it's not for you.
One other thing - - Is Aether FPV going to be a shop that sells product? That is interesting. Will you have a warehouse of is this a drop ship setup?
is the stuff dropshipped or stocked or stocked in a warehouse
The only hard part of fpv is actually flying. And PIDs. Heck pids.
I am learning right now (Day 4) I just bought an BETAFPV controller and the DRL sim it is impossible to learn
What drone are you using, because I also want to get into fpv with the dji 03 air unit
look i just spent like 400 bcks getting into tinywhoops and now i got 2 busted whoops in the first week and iput in a little sim time as well as time on my friends whoop. one came out the box screwed up and i hit a wood post (not even all that hard compared to some of the crashes ive had on my friends) and broke the camera on the other cant wait to get them back in the air again though
i just finished building my drone and accidentally shorted the flight controller 🥲
Thoughts for dji neo for 16year old with no experience or should i choose a differend one?
Definitely not the Neo. Start with the simulator then get a tinywhoop like the Air65.
Have you tried building an engine block? I did FPV cuz that's easy compared to building engines with friends lol
ill get into more of this happy once i get a stable job cuz rn im a broke college student lol and fpv is so expensive - doesn't stop me from looking at cheap stuff for now tho and im doing a lot of research!
The betafpv cetus pro is a nice cheap tiny-whoop
Hey. I’m 15 but started building my drone at 13. It took a year to gather all the parts and knowledge but it is worth it. Your parents might think it a little crazy though. Try get a job, that’s the first thing I did. And buy the parts gradually. If u need a parts list I can help ya if you want
@KleinSchwein9999 Dont build, BNF
Especially a tinywhoop -- Unless you have very very tiny tweasers
I might be interested by aetherfpv (have 50h on sim and a cetus X, i just need more irl stick time before building a bigger drone)
It’s probably not actually more expensive to buy a bnf than to build
Separates the real people from the frauds. Keep trying failing and learning. Finding a good fpv friend is always good. Learn your stuff DONT EVER be that guy! Have fun most of all!
Fpv is actually just the camera system last time I checked. There is more to FPV than Quads dorexemaple you can do fov with fixed wings which is alot easier. Heck you can do fpv with cars which shouldn't be hard
Nah is easy and beside I learned in the simulator and after that I'm waiting for my tinywhoop and I'm 12!
Nice man! 13 and loving the hobby. Hope you enjoy your real drone and don’t break it on the first try! Top tip - when pulling out the LiPO
DO NOR
Pull on the cables or the XT30 connector will come desoldered. Don’t ask how I know this 😅😅😅
@ yeah but I don't have an fpv drone yet I only have a mini 2 se
I’m tryna get into it but I can’t afford 😭 not skill although probably as well
I’m not spending 250 on the drone
😅 I flipped a drone for my friend. Whole build was 80 pounds, but I wouldn’t recommend doing it as your first build. But u could try. If ur committed enough. Took about 20 hours though. It was a nightmare. But it does fly very well now. Brought the drone for him on eBay. His kit is an added 120 for headset and controller though so bare that in mind
@KleinSchwein9999 I wanna slowly get all the gear like first get remote goggles then build the drone
You should try flying RC Helicopters, after that FPV is the easiest 😁
Captain drone videos smooth out the learning curve lol
I think the learning curve is more so the fixing stuff lol
Ya end up flying 25 percent and fixing 75 percent when u are taking risks and learning new things
I wish I had an fpv drone never got to get one but it sucks cause my friends have them but don’t let me use them and just make me watch them
Guys go watch Joshua Bardwell video before going into fpv or do a bit of research by yourself bc if you don't want to do some now you are not ready to dive into this hobby. Not because it reequires a big brain but because you will crash and rebuilt yourself again and again until you are good at flying. But buying a controller is a good start so go ahead if you can !!
can you share your current drone setup?
Waiting for the dji 04 air unit
can you tell us when your new channel is out
Only mildly? Lol
What specs will your drones have
haha i started out the same way with a playstation controller and sim and than a crappy fpv set from market place which mostly in a state of disrepair
like goggles with broken fan and fogging screens
a quad with a broken camera
a radio with a broken battery :D
oh also Geprc Mark 5 > Nazgul Evoque
because of the slits in the arms for the leds the arms break much faster than on the mark5
I really want to love this video. But also. I feel like there are so many holes to the story.
Happy new year
Yo, nick, by chance do you live in lane cove west / lane cove on Matthew’s avenue
lol so this was a giant ad read
Hey Nick what fvp drone do you recommend for new users
Cetus from betafpv if u wanna fly.
If u wanna learn all the complicated stuff start building a 5 inch very slowly, its lots of fun, but it will take a good while to complete
4:40 Replacement was too small or for a lower voltage.
Bro u have inspired me so much to start fpv I Love ur channel and my mum ended up buying me the meteor 75 pro from beta fpv and we got scammed my mum now thinks it’s a untrustworthy website and DJI is way to expensive what should I do
How did they scam you?
It does take a while to ship. Its terrible shipping
@KleinSchwein9999 they gave my mum a shipping code to track it its it’s “not valid” and we have contacted them and all they have said is try the code again
What drone do you use?
where did u get the drone
Just 250$????? thats so expensive fr
Im getting a 70 buck drone, wanted a DJI neo combo but I realised with controller it cost 350 and without it's 200 which is still alot for my familu
can i have your old unused gear?
im 13 and can fly pretty well and only fly in sims cus i dont have anything
Save up and ask you parents to help out with half (coming from 13 yr old) 5:24
@ they said no
And I really want to get a job I’ve tried but no one will take me and they said I have to wait until I’m 14
@@namanienie123 trust me and read this, it will help you a lot, I wish I had this when I built my drone
save up your money.
I’m actually not sure what just happened to mine I had it hanging on a wall and I went to fly it and furring my preflight check before I headed out I discovered my flight controller somehow got wiped and all information is gone causing it to brick:D
So I gotta get a new flight controller and for some reason on my micro one of its motors had just decided to die. It was fine a month ago but apparently now is when it wants to have a problem
Modular Synthesis hobby Is just as hard :P
I just want to know what drone he uses
Can you send me a RadioMaster Pocket Elrs? I really want one, I’m planning on buying a acrobee65 brushed
Can you please review the dji avata 2 with trick shots ?
3rd? I just spent 3 days going crazy in Betaflight but finally I am flying
Might want to consider a sub 250g 3 or 3.5 inch to make everyones life a little easier. Not too many peeps wanting to go the 107 license and remote id shit show. Just saying.
I just got the DJI avata 2
I did too. I spent several hours on lift off. I still have crashed and broken mine many times. On my 3rd avavta 2. Best buy doesn't have it anymore so I'm fixing the one I have now. Broke the top main frame. I'm sure I'm gonna have fun taking it apart
Make like 6-combo like remote,battery,charcher,fpv drone,gogels
You are the goat
why you selling vro2 and not 3
Just 250$ for a controller
Thought the same
Yea I thought that was mad phrasing in editing lol but what I MEANT is that overall to get everything else in FPV it’s the cheapest part.
@@Nick_FPV but iv been watching your videos over a wile and seen you change quite a lot so keep it up man
smart business man...
I got dji v1 system bnf and learned with angle mode and no simulator
way to make simple things sound like rocket science (edit: ohh now i get it you sell a course and material bahahaha im sure people wont see through you )
Get the avata 2 it’s so good, and definitely not underpowered
