It's trashy and unecessary. No high point upon literacy resources nor source material respect, or psychological repercutions. What does a piracy screen has to do with this dumb edgelord? Same with the NGC reference just makes the thing ridiculous and pretencious. Not even close to what RED represents as pure evil.
That original "I am god" creeped me out so much when I was 11 years old that I couldnt sleep without lights for days. Then I saw the remade version and busted out laughing at that point. Ok the one in the newest version is actually pretty good
Dude same. Worst bit is I went in completely blind, I just knew about .exe through Minecraft skins. Watched the pewdiepie thing, ended up with nightmares for weeks.
"THE ULTIMATE SUBJUGATION OF THE INTERNET ITSELF" In a way, Hyena's rant turned out to be true, its like a spell that he casted onto his creation, unable to die, always refreshing itself, he somehow won, but can't taste his victory, now that he got kicked of the internet entirely.
The person that made the og i am god iamge is called falsecow he also made sally.exe he only made the characters and the creepypasta was made a friend and mystcrimson saw it turned a game but when he (and a few other people that helped) made the game sometime later he deleted the game because it was rip off of another creepypasta that is actually older then sonic.exe and its called SONIC by chinelin and mystcrimson didnt liked that his game was rip off so he removed it a few years later falsecow would be groomed by jc the hyena but he would join the fnf vs sonic.exe and he would frame revie saying she was a groomer even tho wasn't because of this when people learned about the framing falsecow became hated and quited the internet
Thank you for letting me know! I couldn't find out who made it for the life of me. Seems like there has been a lot of drama with/between the creators over the years huh? Thanks for letting me know, and thanks for watching!
Translation for unfunny people who complain about grammar: The person that made the original "I AM GOD" image is called falsecow. He also made Sally.exe, which he only made the characters and the creepypasta was made by a friend of his. Mystcrimson saw it and turned it into a game, but when he (and the few people that helped on it) made the game, sometime later he decided to delete the game because the creepypasta was a rip-off of another creepypasta simply called SONIC, by Chinelin. Mystcrimson didn't like that his own game was actually a rip-off, so he removed his game. A few years later, falsecow would be groomed by JC the Hyena, he then would join the Vs Sonic.exe FNF mod and frame Revie for grooming, even though she actually didnt. Because of this, people started to hate falsecow on the internet until he quit.
I think the reason why Sonic.EXE as a concept works so well is because Sonic is designed to be your friend, so twisting that gives a particular sense of unease that not many things can really achieve.
Also the sonic cast is,in the beginning at least, holds alot of consistently very capable characters so seeing these seemingly invincible and powerful characters get manipulated and killed adds to it.
I think by far the best thing that has come out of the EXE trope is by far No More Innocence. NMI is an absolute masterpiece in creativity. The basic rundown of the character is a malicious Japanese spirit (or Yokai) inhabiting many different bootleg cartridges of Sonic 2. These bootleg cartridges are spread around by a physical manifestation of itself called Makoto claiming to be a developer of the game. The spirit targets families with unstable households and parental issues. Once a child is in the hands of a cartridge the child will become extremely addicted immediately and will become fatigued over time. Ignoring their parents and rejecting food. They sit and play on the game and since the parents are either busy or neglectful the child may die or be hospitalized due to malnutrition. The spirit makes it hard for the parents to help their child as it does all it can to guilt trip them and manipulate them into believing their child’s condition is their fault and they should give up. The spirit never kills anyone, it simply takes pleasure in the agony of the parents and children. It’s extremely narcissistic and manipulative to the point of convincing parents that it is good for their child to be around. No More Innocence is such a cool idea and I would love for it to get more recognition. (It is owned by DuhDumbie btw)
I'd like to add that NMI's underlying message is against escapism, as his actions pretty much represent what someone would be inclined to due to escapism.. Yeah, in kids he would have that effect, but in adults, he'd cause huge depession and lead to suicide as well.
19:36 To be honest, X taking the form of a Sonic ROM would make sense. It's trying to stay faithful to the Saturday morning TV of the same name. No but seriously, taking form of a ROM of a Sonic game instead of a monster makes it more cunning since Sonic himself isnt scary. It leaves the victim in a vulnerable position when opening up.
I like that explanation a lot better than the "he was just obsessed with Sonic" explanation some people seem to go with. But if world domination is really his end goal, still there would be more effective franchises to do this with than Sonic haha. But I get what you're saying. It's probably the best explanation. Thanks for watching! :)
@@TheRemster115 the thing about him just being obsessed with Sonic is Canon to the original pasta. JC wrote a post explaining his backstory, and the explanation is that he is still rather young, and has essentially the mind of a child. Which is a really dumb explanation, but it at least makes some amount of sense I guess.
I absolutely adore it when a community takes something lackluster and makes so many amazing versions of it. It really shows the power of a group's passion and creativity.
I'd suggest at least checking out Nightmare Beginning and Spirits of Hell + Whispers of Souls. They turn the concept into proper games with actual things to do besides walking the characters to their deaths not to mention they're complete.
I'll definitely check them out when I have the chance! A lot of people told me about them. It's a little weird that I missed those games, because I put quite a lot of time into the research. So sorry about that. Thanks for the recommendations and for watching!
@@TheRemster115Bro how? Jaiz's work is crazy good. I will be honest that it takes away the lack of control but the OG nightmare beginning has a pretty good balance of info and lack of control
I’ll always say that making xenophanes a fanboy of sonic who is also an Erdrich alien is such a good idea. Not only does it separate exe from being a sonic that is demon possessed, but it also represents those toxic sonic fans who treat sonic as a toy and have no regard for others. I mean that in the best way possible.
Well, actually the creator of Xenophanes have say the character just use Sonic and his franchise because it's very popular, not because he is a fan. The one who is (aside of also be a Erdrich Alien-void creature) one extreme fanboy with god type powers it's the original Sonic.Exe of 2011, who also have grown up and now he is know as Lord X from PC port series.
@@Guard. I guess it takes away from them just being a mindless force of death but at the same time its a Sonic game so its appropriate that its a bit goofy lolol (new canon, the reason he eats people is because he read one too many vore fanfics)
My favorite interpretation of Sonic.EXE is when he specifically wants to outdo Sonic and be better than him in every way possible, but his ideas of replacing Sonic are extremely twisted and violent.
@@Guard. Lord X isn't the original X, Lord X is JoeDoughBoi's "fan-interpretation" of the actual X. Joe said this himself, X and Lord X are 2 separate beings
Thank you! I did two takes, and I have to admit, my throat did hurt a little bit for the next hour or so haha. Glad it was worth it. Thanks for watching!
This is such a nice video. Is so refreshing seeing some good appreciation to modern Sonic.exe . Wish more people did it. Just one thing: Sonic.exe was still active way before the fnf release. There were games like the Nightmare series and the Spirits of Hell series that tried to recreate the original game and give it story, lore, multiple endings (some good ones), etc. It is undeniable that fnf revived Sonic.exe in popularity, but whenever you think that the direction that he went before is good or not is up to you.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yeah I was positively surprised when I came back to the series. Like I mentioned in the video, my knowledge on it pretty much ended when the series initially lost its popularity. So it was a lot of fun playing games that didn't actually suck and had a lot of time and effort put into them, when I was used to the EXE games from 10 years ago haha. And yeah, a lot of people mentioned those games in the comments. It seems I missed them when I was researching everything I missed over the past few years. Kinda strange, because I put a lot of time into the research part of this video. I'm sorry, I definitely would've mentioned them if I had known about them before. I'm glad you enjoyed it nontheless! I'll definitely check those games out when I have the time! Thanks for watching!
Honestly i might also say that luigikid, a certain youtuber, also helped ignite the flames of the .exe games. As he hosts the .exe challanges where people make those kind of games to win money
Lemme tell you, some people say FNF is the reason. I don't disagree, it was a huge part of it, but there's something deeper. Something simpler: Sonic.exe was so bad it made people go "God this is awful, Hell, *I* could do better." And inspired dozens of people to try and make the concept of 'sonic but horror' work in tons of wildly different ways. It's sheer lack of creativity spurred others to think outside the box when trying to salvage the idea.
In a way, it mirrors the whole "being born from bits of evil forces in the interdimensional space between universes" way that the X character was born. People wanting to remake the evil sonic guy basically reincarnated the concept of X.
Might’ve been interesting if Metal Sonic was wearing the flesh and skin of Sonic which explains the same animation of Metal Sonic’s flight and the red glowing eyes.
Someone in the comments earlier told me about Falsesteel Sonic. It's basically exactly what you described, a Metal Sonic exoskeleton wearing Sonic's skin, pretending to be him. You should check it out! And thank you so much for the super thanks! It's much appreciated! First time I've ever gotten one, thank you!
24:39 the creator of the game is still active and is the new owner of Sonic.exe. And he made the new sonic.exe remake. He is still developing sonic PC port. So we just have to wait a little more.
16:10 well i judt predicted this. When it went dark i just said this out loud "hey vsauce micheal here" and then the audio actually played. That made me laugh.
Thank you, I really appreciate that! Well I have been making videos for only 5 months or so. So almost 5000 subs is a lot better than I expected when I started. I'd say we're on the right track!
The thing with exe games is either you make a storyline and sacrifice the lack of information (like spirits of hell kinda did) or sacrice the lack of control and make things like eyx and pc port where anything can come out at any moment, it's analog horror, that's why some of them are scarier, nothing stops them from just scaring you at any point as they please, no chains to hold them down Edit: you passed that you can hit sonic in the remake but he avoids it and he has 2 ways of taunting you
Yeah that's true. I do really like the way PC Port and EYX did it though. I had a lot of fun playing those games. Yeah you're right, I didn't mention that in the video, my bad. I did notice it during gameplay. Must've forgot to write it into the script. Thanks for watching! :)
It amazes me how people can do things 10 times better than the original. The plot that Jaiz gives us is a vivid example of this. And I still don't understand how people have a desire for the original, which is bad. For example, Minecraft (pretend it's a bad game) - why the hell did this game get so many gorgeous mods, a huge audience, a large number of videos and was bought out. Even if you created an absolute masterpiece (for example, Team Fortress 2) you will have fans who will do even better (just remember that this game has a fan movie)
Even though the story sucks and everything as such, you can't say Sonic.EXE didn't make a huge comeback or at least some kind of significant return. No matter what, Sonic.EXE has definitely inspired the idea of a creepy Sonic, and now there is nothing nobody can do to make something else original that won't be associated with Sonic.EXE, so congrats to JC, he technically did get the last laugh. Even though his story won't spread at all or ever, the bits are parts of it that are relevant has definitely been taken to a whole new level thanks to fans who made Sonic.EXE into what they invision it to be like, and they definitely made something scarier. I can't wait for what Sonic EYX part 2 will be like. That game actually does send some shivers down your spine.
Yeah I agree. I had pretty much the same conclusion at the end of my video. I'm also really looking forward to the full release of both EYX and the PC Port. I was very surprised by the quality of those games. Thanks for watching! :)
Hearing this terrible story being read inspired me to write my own version of the story because I literally said to myself, “This story doesn’t have a bad idea behind it, it’s just terribly written.” A classic video game that kills you? You just gotta write it correctly and delete the plushy part
As someone who is writing his own Sonic.Exe adaptation. These other adaptations and stories are a massive inspiration for me. This video as well gives me so much more hope and motivation for continuing to make my own story. Thank you.
Jeez, I remember being in my mid teen years actually being scared of this, especially of the original jumpscare. Now not so much. Although I will say .EYX and PC port has given me a bit of a run for my money.
I went to a festival with a bunch of tents that sold things, and at this one tent full of peruvian hand made stuff, they had some knock off sonic plushies for the kids--and sonic.exe was among them. I nearly died trying to hold in my laughter.
We went to London on a school trip once when I was still in high school. This was in 2015/2016. There were a lot of these souvenir shops aimed at tourists that sold Sonic.exe plushies as well. Last year I went to London again and all these same shops were now selling Huggie Wuggie plushies. It was the funniest thing. Apparently they sell I guess haha.
fantastic coverage of this niche subgenre, great to see a focus on the early days as well, really makes it impressive to see both how polished and how unnerving the newer entries end up managing to be with such a cheesy initial premise for the original story
4:55 JC actually explained that the plushie isn't X, but rather a separate entity that X sends out to watch over his victim while he does whatever he needs to do. So X does indeed come out into the real world as himself, as he does so for Derek Green in the sequel called "Round 2: Cult Of X". Where it's described X crawled out of the TV, meanwhile for Tom a plushie appeared on his bed. Which also probably explains why Kyle didn't destroy the disc himself, the plushie was watching him, and the plushie has some supernatural powers or some shit, idk. Also explains why Tom was able to write the story, he didn't die YET. The sequel reveals Tom hanged himself to avoid getting his soul sucked by X. So Tom had time to write about his experience, got a chair and noose, and killed himself, all before X could even come out.
It really sucks how there are some .exe games that have been lost to time and can’t be downloaded anymore. In other words, they are lost media and must be searched for!
Also i believe two things are the reason Sonic.exe came back: 1. Sonic PC port 2. Friday Night Funkin (Yes a Rhythm game helped revived a cringy creepypasta)
Also Sonic.Exe: One Last Round. That game brought me and a few others back to the Sonic.Exe community. This game is really good, Especially the Halloween rework yesterday.
Considering how ridiculously descriptive it was, imagine if the original creepypasta also included instructions on playing the music in "Hill Act 1" and the "..." stages. Like "the music for 'Hill Act 1' was just the music for '...' played backwards, and the unreversed music was played at 80 BPM in the key of E minor, starting with Em chord..." lmao
Yeah it's pretty random. A rhythm game of all things haha. If someone would've told me back in the day that Sonic.EXE would be the only creepypasta that would remain relevant, I would've laughed at you. But here we are. I'm glad though, the games that've come out over the past few years were really enjoyable. Thanks for watching!
I can kind of sympathize with the rant and the reaction of his work being taken down from the wiki. When you make something that basically inspires and/or pioneers an entire genre of works, just because it becomes outdated or obsoleted by times and techniques does not mean it should be tossed into the garbage. It at least deserved some mannerism of respect.
ehhhh, no. it didn't become outdated, it was terrible from its inception. I still kinda get why domenody would sympathize a BIT but also the thing that was said above exists so yeah fuck him
I’m actually just finding out now he was a predator, and been casually following EXE games since they started. Never looked into the creator’s background. That’s awful, but I suppose I could say in regards to the series I am glad others can take the series into their own hands continue building on the genre!
27:11 It disappoints me how many people have this reaction but to be fair he has only appeared in 2 games. 1 being Japanese exclusive and 1 being DLC to a game that reuses tons of levels (I do like Mania but you gotta admit, only 4 original zones?). Ray is a great character though and I like how his personality was fleshed out in the 30th anniversary Classic Sonic Comic.
18:19 The Bowser's inside Story background music brings back so many good memories of the final boss. Definitely the most epic final boss music of the Mario and Luigi franchise.
Sometimes, I catch myself visiting Friday Night Funkin' mod pages just out of sheer curiosity of what's being made. Occasionally, I'll install stuff and go for a ride. It ranges from hyper-cringe to hilarious to genuinely enthralling and fun. A lot of the creepypasta mods especially are made with so much heart and nostalgia for these old tales, Sonic.exe and Hypno's Lullaby for example are works of impressive passion and effort. When I was a little elementary schooler playing Pokémon HeartGold on my DSi, I used to get so scared about stuff like Lavender Town, Buried Alive, Lost Silver, and more. Seeing Friday Night Funkin' modders turn the game into a fun, comical nostalgia trip feels like the perfect outcome of the game. Also, that final main song in the Sonic.exe mod, 'Triple Trouble', is 8 friggin' minutes of Sonic leitmotifs turned into high pitched 'beep bop bo' sounds, and the fact that it still sounds decent makes me feel like I'm going crazy. Friday Night Funkin' is an absolute time.
Sonic.Exe: One Last Round is really good. The Halloween rework from yesterday is especially good. Mr. Pixel is cooking with this project. I can't wait for the full release.
That's the updated version of one more time right? Someone told me about it earlier in the comments. I did play one more time for the video and used some of the gameplay. I really thought I played most Sonic.EXE games when doing research for this video, but I couldn't have been more wrong haha. I'm amazed by the amount of games there are nowadays and their quality too. Thank you for letting me know! I'll definitely check it out later when I get the chance. And thanks for watching!
God the exe lore is even deeper than FNAF and much more convoluted. I can say sonic.exe is a demon and someone can say there's a million different iterations of him like a dark multiverse. In my opinion the only real sonic.exes is the original and the one last round. That just helps my brain not die from overloading the amount of versions of him there is
Let's be real, some if not the best sonic.exe games came out after one of the greatest horror youtube gamer, luigikidgaming, started making his luigikidchallenges
something i appreciate from the challenges in general is that the guy is giving a space for young/new game developers to start working on something, and out of those some masterpieces came out and it's rlly nice to see
This video was awesome, so here's some sonic.exe trivia to return the favor! 1.the Official remake you mentioned at the end was directed by and its sprites were created by JoeDoughBoi, creator of PC port and owner of lord X!In fact, his work in this community was valued enough that he is now the co owner of the canon Xenophanes(the new name/version of the original sonic exe)! 2.On the topic of PC port, it's very much still in development! Believe it or not, the demo you showcased in this video was a remake of the original version of the game, posted as an entry to the Luigikid creepypasta challenge. The developers have been taking their time making the game, especially JoeDoughBoi, who has mentioned that the part he's worked the hardest on in regards to the project is actually the story and how it will be told ingame. If you want development updates, i'd suggest following Joedoughboi, John-kun, and the rest of the developers on their socials! As of right now, JDB says the project that is taking top priority at the moment is a series of comics detailing the personalities and lives of the 7 Guardians of X, new characters set to appear in PC port! I look forward to seeing what he can cook up!
BONUS(I forgot to include this in the main comment): Joedoughboi has implied/confirmed on Twitter that, at least in the context of PC port's story, the version of sonic exe that appears in the official remake is the "immature" version of Lord X that's still thought hyper realistic blood and screamers were the scariest crap in the world. He is fittingly named "2011 X"(because that was when the original creepypasta was published/took place)
Thank you for the information! It's good to know the game is still being worked on. I look forward to the full release, because I really enjoyed the PC Port demo. So I wasn't too far off with the backstories of the different EXE versions? That's good to know haha. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and thanks for letting me know!
@@TheRemster115 it was nice to see someone dive into the backstory of the character, don't see it brought up much and is instead glossed over. Enjoyed this video, brought a lot of laughs.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! That means a lot! Diving into the backstories was one of the most fun parts for me. When I was younger, Sonic.EXE never really had a backstory. So it was interesting to see how people eventually wrote their own and created their own spin on the character. I'm also glad to hear the PC Port is still being worked on. I really enjoyed playing it, and am looking forward to the full release! Thanks for responding! I'm interested though, do you do the story writing, illustrating, and game development by yourself? Because that sounds like a lot of work for 1 person for a free release.
@@TheRemster115 I handle most of the story myself, I have a close friend review it and then finalize it. Outside of that I do have a small team I work with, they can be found on the game page. the game wouldn't be as great without the help of the coders John-Kun and MrYossarian, we wouldn't have the remake without them. I do direct mostly myself though, and tend to handle character designs and sprite assets, make sure everything is up to quality. Most of the sprites from the demo have been or will be remastered significantly, the style has grown since them. Right now the main game is on hold as we're working on another game in the series, though I can't give much more than that👀
Only fucked part of sonic.exe's history is that the original creator was someone having sexual interactions with minors online. Then the second owner had legit the same situation minus the diaper fetish the first owner had. Currently if i remember correctly sonic.exe is basically part of the public domain and has no sole owner anymore. Probably due to the fact the last two where creepy with kids.
And tbh so many people now make their own exe versions (including me) and remakes that are far better than original and are also far better people than og creators. The fanmade side of Sonic.exe is far better when we see fans having so much creative ideas and stories that actually make sense. It bought the whole Sonic. Exe concept to light
@@mentaikiryo Only thing that I've heard going to the public is Steamboat Willie Though AstranomiconXx and JoeDoughBoi own Sonic.EXE, and even made "Canon Sonic.EXE", him being Xenophanes pronounced Xen-Off-A-Knees, and Lord X, Joe's fan interpretation of the OG X/Sonic.EXE
fun fact: john kun, the coder for pc port, released a trailer for the full version recently. also, joedoughboi, lord X's creator and co-owner of the official sonic.exe sometimes posts pc port related content on his youtube channel
Joedoughboi actually commented on this video earlier, and he said the PC Port has been put on hold for now as they're working on another game in the series. I'll keep an eye on it though, because I really want to see what the full version will be like. Thanks for letting me know, and thanks for watching!
@Shyontheinternet99 not really sure if i can, cuz youtube may or may not think it's a scam, but you can search it up! the keywords are "sonic pc port trailer exe direct"
29:04 I can kind of see the story here 29:08 Metal Sonic attacks, and EYX (for some reason) decides to help Sonic (in a rather unconventional way) 29:12 EYX proceeds to rip Eggman's head off, saving Sonic in the moment, yet dooming the entirety of Green Hill Zone to eternal torture at the hand of an eldritch abomination taking the twisted form of everyone's favorite Hedgehog...
You mean Fallout New Vegas right? I''ve never played any of the Fallout games. Did I miss out? And thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Dude, I’ve always thought the Author’s rant was SO funny and I’m so glad that’s recognized 💀 it REEKED of an inflamed Ego and it was amazing to watch a man’s sanity go in the span of literally two paragraphs. (Also Props on that villain laugh) I’m glad people have taken the art away from the artist, cause that guy was a freak. I mean, beyond the rant. But the character was always appealing to me; it had potential, and that’s being seen in newer forms-even if it’s still as goddamn goofy 💀 though, let’s be real, nothing can be as bad as the sequel (no, not Sally, but Round 2) to me. So anything is an improvement. But I think EYX is probably my favorite rendition of the character. I’ve always been fond of body horror and eldritch abomination type alterations so visually he is more entertaining than the black and red eyes with blood tears. ANYWAY great video 👍👍 Your editing has gotten a lot better! I think you’re really finding your voice in the scripting / editing :) It was well worth the wait! Would you believe, this came out at the perfect time as I’m now starting my thesis and this is definitely going to be in the rotation :) can’t wait for whatever you do next!! (Also, hilariously, at the 31:25 mark when you say “Just listen to this” I immediately was hit with a Red Bull commercial. I don’t know if that was intentional or not (Ad placement I mean) but that made me giggle.)
I honestly had quite a bit of trouble deciding what I wanted to talk about in the video and what to leave out. There are just so many things to talk about when it comes to this series, a lot of which was also new to me, which is also part of the reason this video took a while to make. The research took quite a bit of time. Round 2 was one of the things I decided to leave out, simply for the sake of length. But yeah, it was horrible. The whole cult thing, and the 7 guardians? It was mostly really weird haha. It kinda felt like one of those edgy movie adaptations of a video game that try way too hard to be different from the source material. He should've pitched it to Netflix. They would've absolutely picked that shit up back in the day. Couldn't have been worse than the Slender movie haha. Yeah I honestly loved EYX. I hope the full game comes out one day. Though I'm a little doubtful. Thank you! I put a lot of effort into the script to make it flow well. Writing the script for this video was a lot more challenging than something like the Slendytubbies video for example. There I recorded the gameplay first and based my script on the things that happened in-game. Here I had to actually research stuff and write a coherent story. So I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it! The next video is going to be about horrible FNAF clone games. And I was hoping to get that done in time to do a horrible Christmas games video after that, before Christmas. Obviously, haha. And no, the ad definitely wasn't intentional. I always let youtube place the ads. But that is pretty funny, haha Is it doing that well by the way? Or are the ads placed at weird moments. Because then I might have to start placing them manually.
@@TheRemster115 yeah, your effort shows! Your voice and humor is a lot more apparent rather than just the memes :) Also, Can’t wait for the Fnaf Clones! Do you have any games in mind? Cause a couple come to mind LMAO As for the Ad placements, I think they’ve been doing okay so far! That one was the only one I really noticed because of the hilarious timing hahah
Thank you. I'm honestly really happy to hear that. Yeah I had a few games in mind, but haven't really decided or recorded anything yet. So I'm absolutely open to suggestions. Fire away I say haha!
@@TheRemster115 I mean yeah sure! The first thing I think of is Five Nights at Warios, Dormitibis, Five Nights at Candy's 2 are some good ones to start with. While FNAC2 is just a weaker entry in that trilogy, the other two just have poor quality or. really insensitive treatment to topics. So maybe starting there can give you some ideas!
which round 2 are we referring to? Cause the one where the real Sonic shows up to kick ass is GOATed now if its that dumb murder mystery one then yeah, we're in agreement.
Neat video, man! :D Totally deserves more attention. You pretty much covered all of the most well made EXE games in this video. Probably not worth an entire follow up, but another pretty good game I'd recommend checking out on your own time is "Sonic.Exe One Last Round." It's widely considered the best EXE game out there, soley for the amount of effort put into it by its creator Mr. Pixel. Also, it has a setting and antagonist that bare a slight resemblance to PC Port. (Come to think of it, since the Halloween update came out recently, you probably have heard of or played the game already, but just in case you haven't, now you know.)
Thank you! I'm really glad you enjoyed it! Yeah a few people recommended that game earlier. I'm amazed by the amount of good games that have come out over the years. I tried finding out and playing the most relevant EXE games that've come out over the years, but it seems I did miss a few. One last round and The Nightmare series probably being the biggest ones. I'm a little surprised that I missed them, I really did put a lot of time in the research. But thank you for the recommendation, I'll definitely play them when I have the time! And thanks for watching! :)
It is a bit disappointing to me that nobody remembers the pre-fnf era of Sonic exe, it sorta got its own mini revival with Nightmare Beginning in 2017 and i remember being around for it Wish people remembered it more often
@@Doom_SCPFr and they were the games that bought exe to life before fnf mode. People would even get confused and think that the exes from Nightmare Universe were the original exe
28:58 love how no one talk about sonic looking scared, meaning he is also experiencing the same effects as we are and might be a separate entity from eyx
as a huge fan, and fairly relevant person in the FNF Sonic.EXE community (I have worked on many mods), I am always pleased to see it get more recognition, especially from those who knew the source material.
Ray is a sonic mania character if you didn’t know. Sonic mania was a fan game made as a project and when Sega found out about this, they hired most of the developers from sonic mania because they thought it was so good.
I was under the impression that there were 2 sonic.exe games for a while. Which i thought was weird because of how popular the story and games were. Until recently, when i was recommended playthroughs of the other ones without searching for them. I now believe youtube reads my mind.
I always have this with ads, when I talk about maybe buying or needing a product I often get ads about it the next day. Google probably knows me better than my right hand at this point. Thanks for watching!
Sonic bursted out of the screen and gave me backshots at lightspeed, while knuckles was whipping me and tails was nuking an orphanage, i played it off as a glitch and moved on
People bashing the original creepypasta and its creator (whose currently rotting in jail btw) will never not be funny and entertaining. Honestly, I’ve gotten tired of the creepypasta trend, but it’s nice to see people today are putting effort into making their creepypastas unique and interesting. (The Godzilla one is the best creepypasta because of how well it establishes its world, how believable the characters are, and how it breaks away from the tropes and cliches that most pastas fall into.) My favorite rendition of Sonic.exe is Sønic.unc where it looks like something is wearing Sonic’s skin and looks completely unnatural.
Just found this channel and I honestly haven't laughed this hard at a video in so long. Genuinely great comedy and great analysis of these EXE games that I didn't know existed. I hope this channel continues to grow.
If only you could have done one last round with these set hes a version of sonic.exe that acts more like the devil the charaters have many brutal death ends
JC's rant makes me feel like JC Hyena is an account being run by sonic.exe himself. Edit: also, DANG IT 15:40 , I've been in a FNAF mood lately with the release of the movie and, just like most other moods, it seems to find me at the most random of moments...
Strange how it always works like that huh haha. But you're probably going to enjoy my next video then. It's about FNAF fan games. Should be up by the end of next week, if everything goes according to plan of course haha.
In the remake of Sonic.EXE, after Sonic jumpscares during the I Am God screen. If you don't quit the game with task manager for a bit, you'll hear Sonic say, "Try to keep this interesting for me." like in the original story.
The "evil hero story" is something that I can never get enough of,Sonic.Exe really does a good job turning a cheerful and cocky hero into a sadistic and derisive monster who stains the innocent face of a kids game with its own version of the world.
Ngl the typical godlike being exes are basically Goku Black Extremely narcissistic god becomes interested in a super strong mortal, so they take the form of said mortal and destroy everything and making the world be weirdly dark compared to the rest of the series
@@_TRB_It’s a shame that we don’t have an official version of this character concept anymore. Fleetway’s Super Sonic and Archie’s Scourge were both pretty spot-on to how you described Sonic.exe.
honestly, the idea of something dark and truly a negative force of nature like an exe taking on the shape of a beloved character has a super dark implication. it implies the entity is childlike and immature, as any other might give up on the form and find a more... mature looking one. the fact they also wont ever let you go and will instead torment you makes them that much more intimidating if played right. nothing is worse than a creature who wont let you go, much less one who cant control their own urges to kill you. again. and again. and again.
What's hilarous is that JC said in his rant than "we Hellspawn shall have the last laugh" and in the end, Sonic.exe has fully fit into internet culture today, so in a way, he did get the last laugh... Too bad his carrer ended due to a _minor_ problem
I feel like the description of the “glitch” on the title screen could’ve been better if it was thought of to be glitch messing up the color palette, it could’ve been a story where the entity is inside the rom, slowly altering everything to mess with the player
Have you played sonic.exe spirits of hell? It's pretty good not gonna lie, it even has voice acting. i love how the community transformed sonic.exe even adding other exe's such as Exterior, Sark, and Exeller adding that they all have there own world's that they rule also Exterior adding how he is mercyful compared to other demons and a good example of this is how other demons like sark and EYX torture their victims before killing them.
Its been so long since I seen Sonic.Exe.As a kid,he terrified me to the point where when i played the sonic games,i would be ready for jumpscares. Thank you for reminding me my nightmares.
I don't think X looked at Sonic and said "yep, you're scary, you're mine" I think he saw who Sonic was a cool dude with a big heart who wants to save the world and give his friends and anyone he comes a cross a good life, so he thought turning a character like that would be perfect since he's the completely opposite and more of all the OG Sonic represents which would be terrifying af like imagine Keanu Reeves just became a serial killer all of sudden. That would be really disheartening and depressing and would just leave you with a whole bunch of negative emotions. All that or he just saw Fleetway Super Sonic and thought "I'd look so drippy in this hedgehog" 🤣
15:30 showing 'the/coronation day during this part of the video is VASTLY unfortunate. 'the or internally referred to as "coronation day" is SOOOO good, and still unsolved btw. To anyone wishing to have a good horror game experience, PLEASE play the rom hack or watch hey peter's video essay on it. it's so so so great, from a level perspective, to an atmosphere perspective, to literally anything about it. It's basically perfect. I highly recommend you check it out
Yeah, you're right, I agree. It didn't deserve to be shown during that part of the video. When I was editing that part I just quickly needed some background footage, and I mistakenly took it for just another one of those 'spooky' Mario World ROM hacks. I saw Hey Peter's video on Coronation Day when it came out, which I believe was about a month or so after this video was uploaded, and instantly regretted using footage of it haha. If I could go back and replace it I would, but it is what it is I guess haha.
Forget to mention that JC the Hyena the original author of the Sonic.exe creepypasta was exposed in 2021 shortly before FNF fans revived Sonic.exe for being a fucking freak online for almost a decade at the time for grooming multiple minors especially on Discord, honestly I think the main reason why most Creepypastas are dead now is because not only FNAF but also because of the September 2014 Slender Man stabbing incident that literally happened a month later if you know you know.
The only Creepypasta that is still relevant other than Sonic.exe is obviously Jeff the Killer, and that's just because people are still trying to find the original image of where the image for Jeff the Killer came from.
I have mixed feelings on this. What's come out of the Sonic.EXE stuff is, artistically, brilliant. However, it's not scary anymore. To tell you the truth, I haven't paid that much attention to what's been going on since the first couple of videos. But the last video I watched from this was a boss fight of Sonic doing some sort of Dance Dance Revolution-type boss fight with Starved and some kind of Sonic robot. It was one of the most creative and entertaining boss fights I've ever seen. I was thrilled, and engaged. One thing I wasn't was scared. And that's something that I think has permeated a lot of...I don't know what you'd call it, online fandom horror? Five Nights at Freddy's was perfectly scary exactly as it was, then they had to add a bunch of lore and tons of weird shit to it and overcomplicated it into being more cringe fuel than nightmare fuel. The thing about horror is this: it works by taking the familiar and safe, and corrupts it into a hostile unknown. You're made aware that there is a threat and that the threat has elements of what you once considered safe, but you're not able to identify it. This feeling of not knowing what is about to happen, but expecting the worst at any imminent moment, is what we call "horror". Analog horror even today is still an untapped and underutilized niche. I remember being a small child and running away from my brother's Windows 98 whenever it did something anomalous or gave me an error message I didn't understand ("Illegal" operation? Are the police after me??). The "It is now safe to turn off your computer." screen is something I always expected to one day say something sinister. To say nothing of BsoDs. The thought was always in my brain that there may have been a demon inside the computer, or the computer was open to some kind of demonic possession, and if it were ever to catch me unaware it would get me too. Sonic.EXE, right down to the original video reproductions, could have been a _lot_ more scary had they kept within the expectations of the original Genesis ROM and only subverted them in very deliberate moments. The premise had a lot of promise to it. You're playing Sonic as regular, and something is just...wrong. And then things just keep happening that start deconstructing, ruining, blaspheming what you once felt was safe and fun. But even it had its cheesy moments that took you out of the immersion, like the cringy "I AM GOD" scene. Even that could have been ameliorated if, instead of some obvious piece of art, it kept within Sonic 3 & Knuckles' art assets: Black screen. Part of the Big Sonic sprite from the start screen, palette swapped and poorly rendered so only fragments of it are on the screen like a debug mode glitch. Either the level select or credits font, arranged jankily, to spell "I Am GoD". And if you need lore? Don't put it in the Sonic universe. This is YOUR universe. The game has been corrupted by a demon, or demons. It's first taken the game, and it will then take your computer, and it will then take you. When I was smaller, I imagined a virus that took the guise of Mecha Sonic and appeared on your desktop screen, starting to eat it away. If you couldn't defeat it in time, it bricked your computer. Something like that could take place in some clever content creator's Sonic.EXE boss. As long as they stuck to the rules of corrupting the familiar and the safe, Sonic.EXE could have been something genuinely unsettling. Anyway, that's my 2 cents. Though adjusting for inflation that's more like...5 cents.
That's good! I'm happy it's still bring worked on. I really enjoyed playing the demo and look forward to the full release. Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoyed!

I think the reason why Sonic.EXE as a concept works so well is because Sonic is designed to be your friend, so twisting that gives a particular sense of unease that not many things can really achieve.
Now where have I heard this before?
@@calebhawkes6005 From a video, most likely.

@calebhawkes6005 oh idk maybe every single cartoon creepypasta ever
That's the entire concept of exe/lost episode creepypastas
That sounds really interesting. Thanks for letting me know! I'll be sure to check it out. Might be an interesting topic for a future video.

To be honest, X taking the form of a Sonic ROM would make sense.

I’ll always say that making xenophanes a fanboy of sonic who is also an Erdrich alien is such a good idea. Lemme tell you, some people say FNF is the reason. I don't disagree, it was a huge part of it, but there's something deeper. It's sheer lack of creativity spurred others to think outside the box when trying to salvage the idea.

The thing with exe games is either you make a storyline and sacrifice the lack of information (like spirits of hell kinda did) or sacrice the lack of control and make things like eyx and pc port where anything can come out at any moment, it's analog horror, that's why some of them are scarier, nothing stops them from just scaring you at any point as they please, no chains to hold them down
Edit: you passed that you can hit sonic in the remake but he avoids it and he has 2 ways of taunting you

Spirits of hell and nightmare beginning are my favorite
That game actually does send some shivers down your spine.

fantastic coverage of this niche subgenre, great to see a focus on the early days as well, really makes it impressive to see both how polished and how unnerving the newer entries end up managing to be with such a cheesy initial premise for the original story
4:55
JC actually explained that the plushie isn't X, but rather a separate entity that X sends out to watch over his victim while he does whatever he needs to do.

Ray is a great character though and I like how his personality was fleshed out in the 30th anniversary Classic Sonic Comic.
playing sonic 06 for the first time was a creepypasta itself
ill never forget mephiles stabbing sonic, so heartbreaking 😭😭😭😭
18:19 The Bowser's inside Story background music brings back so many good memories of the final boss. Definitely the most epic final boss music of the Mario and Luigi franchise.
I think i'd even go as far as to say it's one of the best final boss themes of any game.

God the exe lore is even deeper than FNAF and much more convoluted. I can say sonic.exe is a demon and someone can say there's a million different iterations of him like a dark multiverse.
Sonic.EXE does indeed still have owners, 2 in fact. The main owner being AstranomiconXx, and the Co-Owner being JoeDoughBoi
@@thesanss4671 weird. I had heard he had basically gone into the general public basically being owned by basically everyone.

I’m glad people have taken the art away from the artist, cause that guy was a freak.

Obviously, haha.

not even close bruh, Dark Super Sonic and Fleetway Super Sonic fold this dude like an omelette and scramble him like an egg 1,000,000X over
honestly, the idea of something dark and truly a negative force of nature like an exe taking on the shape of a beloved character has a super dark implication. it implies the entity is childlike and immature, as any other might give up on the form and find a more... mature looking one.
the fact they also wont ever let you go and will instead torment you makes them that much more intimidating if played right.
nothing is worse than a creature who wont let you go, much less one who cant control their own urges to kill you. again. and again. and again.

I think he saw who Sonic was a cool dude with a big heart who wants to save the world and give his friends and anyone he comes a cross a good life, so he thought turning a character like that would be perfect since he's the completely opposite and more of all the OG Sonic represents which would be terrifying af like imagine Keanu Reeves just became a serial killer all of sudden. Now That is how you know it’s a faithful remake.
Sonic PC Port is still being worked on, there was a teaser trailer that released last year and a gameplay teaser from a few months ago.
That's good! I'm happy it's still bring worked on. I really enjoyed playing the demo and look forward to the full release. Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoyed!
