It is abridged by Phil Evans with a 60 minute running time, the story still works well with enough tension and drama. These shorter dramatizations are ideal for 'reading' in a single sitting and are great for relaxing bedtime, or car journeys with kids. Recorded/released by Hodder Children's Audiobooks, performed by Nick McArdle, Nigel Pegram Jonathan Keble and Jan Francis; with Rowan d'Albert as Julian, Simon Brown as Dick, Jo Thurley as George, and Scarlett Strallen as Anne.
This is from a double cassette pack released in 1999, but the original recording is from 1989.
This is shared from a recording of a cassette tape, so lots of old-fashioned tape noises; there's a bit of clicking at the start of side two, but it doesn't last long; still listenable and an enjoyable telling for childhood nostalgia and relaxation or for excitement in new generation of imaginative listeners.
