Deuteronomy 7 says that you shall utterly destroy them, but also says do not intermarry with them. Why would marriage be forbidden if they were destroyed? The words utterly destroy in the Hebrew means to put to the ban. Israelites were commanded to drive out the Canaanites. Many were killed in battle, but the language in the Old Testament is hyperbolic. Inscriptions from the surrounding nations all used the same language in regards to enemy peoples.

Yes that's the way I see it & still do. I don't think people understand that God has every right to take out a nation because he knows what thier kids will grow up to do. Example: would a person with for knowledge of hitlers life would they kill hitler as a child saving millions of innocent lives kids women to in the future? I'd say most humans would kill him & feel justified in doing so. Also God wiped out Sodom & Gomorrah kids & women included and again the Lord wiped out the world in the flood except Noah & his family. Remember it says that God sent the flood because the thoughts of men were evil all the time. I think men think by saying God killed kids are infact placing thier moral standards above God who made morals they do this not having the Knowledge that God has very proud that is. I trust our Lord has ample justification for what he does & he don't have to answer to man who's heart is exceedingly wicked. GLORY TO THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY. GOD bless ❤

I do respect this view, however for the better of our own faith and our apperance to others we must investigate the "real" reasons God did what he did and much as we can. After all, the Bible must be viewed with all it's contexts, and if we are to follow God's intentions we must carefully search for the meaning behind the heavy symbolisim

I adopted this view maybe nine years ago so, yes and amen!
I really don't like the term, "THE GOD OF THE OLD TESTAMENT", because every (Born-again Believer) in the resurrected Jesus Christ should know... It was Jesus... God, the same yesterday today and forever... Whatever the Father's will and actions were... Jesus was right there. That is, of course, unless the statements by Jesus, "I and the Father are one" and, "If you have seen me, you have seen the Father" and others, are inaccurate.

Incredibly well put together! The subtle translation details like “self-destruction+corrupt” and “happy” vs “blessed” really affect the meaning! One neat tidbit: I had forgotten how the promise in Genesis 15 was linked to the conquest in Numbers 13. On the topic of Nephilim I believe there may have been I recessive gene that was reignited by the sin of Ham and resulted in Nimrod legends and mentions of giants. This would explain how Nephilim had been destroyed in the flood and also existed after maybe…

    • @KenAmmi-Shalom
      @KenAmmi-Shalom 9 місяців тому

You seem to be saying that you believe that God failed since He meant to be rid of them but missed a genetic loophole so the flood was much of a waste.
Nimrod has literally nothing to do with Nephilim whatsoever.
You also jumped from the specific ancient Hebrew word "Nephilim" to the vague, generic, subjective, multi-usage and modern English word “giants” so that may be what's making you mistakenly think that there were post-flood Nephilim--when there never were.
      The key questions are:
What’s the usage of the vague, generic, subjective, multi-usage and modern English word “giants” in English Bibles?
What’s your usage of the vague, generic, subjective, multi-usage and modern English word “giants”?
      Do those usages agree?
That is one part of the video in which Dr. Brown committed various errors.

Israel still lives under Mosaic laws. It's part of God's mystery they still refuse Jesus. If not they would have been erased by their enemies. Middle east is like slaughtering house still.
Romans 11:25-31 (WEBM) For I don’t desire you to be ignorant, brothers, of this mystery, so that you won’t be wise in your own conceits, that a partial hardening has happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in,
and so all Israel will be saved. Even as it is written, “There will come out of Zion the Deliverer, and he will turn away ungodliness from Jacob.
This is my covenant to them, when I will take away their sins.”
Concerning the Good News, they are enemies for your sake. But concerning the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sake.
For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.
For as you in time past were disobedient to God, but now have obtained mercy by their disobedience,
even so these also have now been disobedient, that by the mercy shown to you they may also obtain mercy.
Everything goes according to God's plan 😇

The reason God gave the Canaanites 400 years is as stated in His word that He's not willing that any should perish when His judgement comes, but that they should repent. He gave them so much time to repent and that of itself shows us that He has been even merciful to them by not wiping them out right away but that in His time of patience they should turn away from their ways. He was actually being kind. I truly believe that God is also revisiting the punishment of Gaza for something their fathers did, when the time their fathers betrayed Judah into the hands of Elam around 700 bc (who today is present day Iran). He gave them since that time time to repent but the people never did. When you look at Gaza today they are sinning the sins of their fathers and this is why they are not only being held accountable for their fathers sins but for their own sins as well, because they chose to walk in the footsteps of their ancestors. Jesus said this to the pharisees of His generation when He said that God will require of them the blood of Abel and the prophets because like their fathers they have sinned. They committed the same crimes. Very possible that the reason God commanded the killing of those babies was also to leave nothing for them to sacrifice through the fire. These people would sacrifice anything or everything they would get their hands on. This could be also why they were commanded to kill the pregnant women because like Israel they would take turns in passing their babies through the fire and eating each other's babies. These women would have babies just to sacrifice them. It was actually God's mercy on those babies. Saving them from the monster that man is. Sometimes God will take persons before their time to preserve them from evil. Possibly God was preserving these babies from the evil of their fathers. God will take loved ones at times to even preserve them from the calamity coming upon a nation or something that's fixing to come. The righteous were even taken into exile to preserve them from the massacre coming upon the land. So God is acting more than we think. He's coming back again folks. Be ready.
Isaiah 57:1 (KJV) The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come.
Deuteronomy 5:9 (KJV) Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that HATE me,

I so appreciate this straight forward approach to this subject, Dr. Brown. For a long time, I've had an issue with the mentality some have that 'the God of the OT is not the same God of the NT.' He is God, one and the same. Can anyone, after listening to this, seriously compare what Hamas just did with what happened with the ancient Amalekites ? Ancient Israelites did not have to be demon possessed, full of hate, did not even have to have a desire for ethnic cleansing. They just needed to obey God. While they were chosen by God to be a light to the nations, they were also an earthly nation with civil laws. God used them to literally eliminate the depraved peoples of Canaan for the sake of preservation of the human race..., especially the preservation of Israel. I like the way Dr Brown stated that they barely made it through history. So true. God, in His great mercy, helped them through to fulfill His eternal purposes. And we should all be thankful for what this means for us today. Truly humbling, and I am grateful for God's mercy and love.

As someone else as stated earlier, how is it possible for the Canaanites to be descendants of the Nephilim when all of mankind was destroyed except Noah and his family? There is a problem with this interpretation because it is impossible for any human outside the ark to have survived the flood.

    • @matt76716

Yes, good point. 👍 That interpretation doesn't stack up, as the giants would have to be descendents of Noah! In which case Noah and his family would also be a half breed mixture themselves.

More fallen angels rebelled after the flood or the original fallen aren’t killed by the flood. Plenty of possibilities. We just know there were giants after the flood. There were just few enough for God to take care of them with his people now.

Perhaps the fallen angels (demons) continued to find some women (after the flood) willing to "go there" again, with them ..(I must say..That concept is just strange to me anyway..never though angels had reproductive capabilities..not even fallen ones..) Anyway, if they did, and that interaction happened again; the world would have had another round with the giants in the land...(The reason for the destruction of the flood was because the thoughts of men's heart were only evil continually..and violence filled the land..The Giants may have been a part of the reason for the flood, but probably not the whole reason..) Whatever the cause..there were giants in the land of Canaan for sure; that had to be destroyed before they could corrupt or destroy the Hebrews, who had been given that land by God, through his promise to Abraham...

“And it happened as humankind began to multiply over the earth and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were comely, and they took themselves wives howsoever they chose. And Yahweh said, “My breath shall not abide in the human forever, for he is but flesh. Let his days be a hundred and twenty years.”
The Nephilim were then on the earth, and afterward as well, the sons of God having come to bed with the daughters of man who bore them children: they are the heroes of yore, the men of renown. And Yahweh saw that the evil of the human creature was great on the earth and that every scheme of his heart’s devising was only perpetually evil. And Yahweh regretted having made the human on earth and was grieved to the heart.” (Genesis 6:1-6)
The New Living Translation (NLT) seems to capture the most likely meaning given the subsequent accounts in Numbers, and hence explains that the sons of God would father human children whenever they would materialise their spiritual bodies to wrongly have sex with human women.
“In those days, and for some time after, giant Nephilites lived on the earth, for whenever the sons of God had intercourse with women, they gave birth to children who became the heroes and famous warriors of ancient times.”

It was necessary, it was not only because of thier sins, there was a root cause, they were all Nephilim tribes, Nephilims were human and fallen angel hybrids, Numbers 13:28-33 directly identifies the Amalekites as the descendants of Anak; a humanoid Nephilim tribe, Numbers 13:33 further confirms that they were direct descendants of Nephilims, not only that, according to ancient Jewish literature the Midrash, they were powerful shape-shifting sorcerers who could transform themselves to resemble animals, according to Rabbinical Theologeon Dr.Brian Hall the Amalekites were a vampire-like blood sucking hybrid people, infact, the very word "Amalek" means "people who lick blood", now it makes sense why God commanded the Israelites that when they had war with nations that were at a distance he said spare thier women and children; but not those nations that were in thier midst, and also why God commanded the Israelites not to intermarry with them, because there was a gene pool problem, they had a corrupted DNA and God didn't want the Israelites to become another Nephilim tribe, which is why God commanded the Israelites to wipe out even thier cattle, because these nations would engage in Bestiality, inseminating thier animals with thier courrupted seed, it is also the same reason why God destroyed the earth with the flood because the world was infested with Nephilims and Noah and his family were the only ones with pure human DNA, so God wanted to preserve the Human race through Noah and his family, for more details watch the full documentary on Nephilims by Trey Smith and also watch the video series on "Tribes of the Nephilim" by the channel Angelegend, Peace!

It remains remarkable and amazing that there are 12,110 Hebrew Letters in the book of Esther. And there are exactly 12,110 Hebrew Letters between the "A" in Amalekites in Genesis 14:7 and the "k" in Amalek in Genesis 36:12 ---- with Genesis 14:7 being the first mention of Amalek of which Haman of Agag was a descendant. (And King Saul, a Benjamite, was to have killed Agag and did not. Mordecai and his cousin Esther were both of Benjamin.) YHWH's Work Is Perfect, and All His Ways Are Just. We see glimpses of this throughout Scripture and in our lives today. May we truly know Him, Yahshua, in the power of His resurrection and in the fellowship of His suffering.

Thank you Dr. Brown for addressing this issue. What I noticed in my study of the older testament is even though God required the Hebrew people to wipe out the Canaanites, to the man, he never endorsed torture or unnecessary violence. He said put the men, women, children and in some cases the beasts, to the sword. A quick death dying by the sword would be much preferred by most women than having their baby ripped out of their arms and dashed against rocks. In fact, when you read what the godless nations did to the Israelites, they were the ones who tortured and dashed their children against rocks, cut open women’s wombs and took their babies out and put them on a pike. God never endorsed torture but wanted them to be killed instantly, a merciful death, if you will. No raping, either. The Jewish people have always been such a peace loving people, that they could not even carry that out. In fact, I remember one of the judges cutting up an ox and sending it’s parts around to all the tribes and saying that he was going to do this to their livestock if they didn’t form up an army and defend themselves! ❤🇮🇱❤️🙏🏻❤️

Here is the passage of Scripture where God commanded Saul to kill all the Amalekites, including infants:
1 Samuel also said unto Saul, The Lord sent me to anoint thee to be king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the Lord.
2 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.
3 Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.
    -1 SAMUEL 15:1-3
Saul disobeyed the LORD by not carrying out the full wrath of God. This grieved Samuel and displeased the LORD:
9 But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.
10 Then came the word of the Lord unto Samuel, saying,
11 It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the Lord all night.
    -1 SAMUEL 15:9-11
Later on, Samuel carried out the will of God and killed Agag in front of the LORD:
32 Then said Samuel, Bring ye hither to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came unto him delicately. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.
33 And Samuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.
    -1 SAMUEL 15:32-33
When the LORD directs His people to kill anyone and everyone of a certain tribe or whatever, the people of God need to obey utterly what God commands. Unlike men, God has access to everyone’s thoughts and motives, so God has perfect foresight and judgment. While the LORD bestows His love upon thousands of generations, He executes His wrath upon the guilty to the third and fourth generation:
“Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.”
    -EXODUS 34:7
Jesus is not a pacifist. During the tribulation period, Jesus is coming to judge and make war in righteousness:
“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.”
    -REVELATION 19:11
Like it or not, God is a God of love, but He is also a God of wrath. His love is the fiercest love and His wrath is the fiercest wrath. During the tribulation period, God will open up the place where His weapons are stored and says to utterly destroy those in Babylon (see JER 50:25-26). That is the time period Jesus alluded to when He said to bring before Him someone who didn’t want Jesus as their King and slay that person in the presence of Jesus (see LUKE 19:27). During the tribulation period, when Jesus comes to judge and make war in righteousness, Christians at that time had better remember Saul’s disobedience and execute the word of the LORD. A curse will be upon him that keeps his sword from bloodshed (see JER 48:10).
The so-called Church and all of society have no idea what is about to happen. They are woefully unprepared for what is coming over the heavens and the earth and will be utterly shocked to their core. But ready or not, buckle up, the end times are upon us. The first WOE will introduce to the world the army of the LORD and their leader, Abaddon, or the Destroyer. During the first WOE, no one dies, no one is destroyed. The people who have not the mark of the LORD will be tormented-so much so that they will seek death. But God will cause death to flee from them so that they can be tortured some more and live to die another day. It is not until the second WOE that the Destroyer lives up to his name when the Most High opens up the armory of the weapons of His wrath. During the second WOE, the bodies will be piled up in the streets so much so that people will stumble over them (see NAHUM 3:3).
For more on the tribulation period and the 3 WOES, see WoeWoeWoe dot com.

Complex subject. In Exodus God says he will wipe out the various peoples in the promised land, but in the same passage, says he will drive them out bit by bit.
Saul is commanded to wipe out the Amalekites in 1 Samuel chapter 15 and claims to have done so.
But even in that chapter Samuel tells Agag his mother will be left as if childless , speaking as if she were still alive.
David in exile from Saul encounters the Amelakites twice in 1 Samuel.
Haman (boo!) In Esther chapter 3 is an Agagite .. a descendant of Agag!
Clearly, the Amalekites were not wiped out.
Even the line of Agag was not wiped out.
Explanation? Hagiographic hyperbole. Many ancient Near Eastern cultures described complete victories in war in such a manner.
Like we do in sport, describing total victory as "a massacre" even though no one was killed. It is to make a point. Total victory.
Wipe out and drive out are used interchangeably in the Old Testament.
The Amalekites survived. The line of Agag continued.
This is not genocide as Muslims and atheists would argue.

Did not God drown the world in judgment, presumably babies then too, except for righteous Noah and 7 of his family?? I do not understand why people feel the need to do gymnastic hermeneutics to provide a humanly palatable defense for the Righteous Lord when He rightly decides to end the lives of people and even babies. The underlying false assumption is God owes us goodness when in fact He owes us His righteous wrath for our crimes and sins against Him. All the Lord does is both righteous and holy and He does not owe any human an excuse, response or a reason. The Lord is merciful and good and holy and sovereign and He is thee truly righteous judge. Be thankful for Jesus who fully propitiated God's righteous wrath on our behalf, for all who specifically believe in Jesus dying for their sins, shedding His holy blood on a cross. and reconciling us to God forever.

It would be apparent that any justification the Israelites have in killing children and babies, be it a commandment of God or not, would not be sufficient for the ones who oppose Israel. Hamas can also argue that they are, according to their religious beliefs, fulfilling the will of God by doing the same. What then is the will of God? What God does allow He allows for a reason, and it is that very reason that many do not care to learn about or understand, much less think about. At least in my opinion, there is no need to defend God's actions, His Word more than proves the justness of His actions. God doesn't have to be fair to be just. Is the God of the Bible a violent God? When He needs to be. Do you suppose that when the second coming of Jesus is finally here, that He will bare in His hands an olive branch? No, not an olive branch, but a sword, drenched by the blood of those against Him on the earth

The Septuagint translated the Nephilim as "Giantos." This is debatable of course and how we got the English word "giants" from an original context of "fallen" or "not spiritually/morally connected to God." How then, did they somehow end up on the "other side" of the Flood since only eight people were on it and they were not? From Genesis 6 to Caleb and Joshua, the Nephillim, with a complete flood and great reset on the earth? Could Nephillim mean just the people (tall or not) not walking with God and not interested in doing so. As each successive generation is raised by immoral and violent people, it's sad to see how hard it is to live next to them on your boarders. Very sad. Teaching hatred to your children will end up where? Christ taught us to seek peace first.

"You can go a long way with a smile. You can go a lot farther with a smile and a gun." -Al Capone
This is a sad truth when the people you are trying to live next too don't understand mercy, reconciliation or love of your neighbor, just like the Nephillim who only understand power, authority and violence. Its going to be impossible to shake hands with someone who wants to slit your throat and really for no real reason, other than for being "you."

And now the "Nephillim" have build their fortified city... which is really just a military base with "innocent" civilians living on top of it. How can you defend yourself without attacking it and killing "woman and children." A really quandary. We pray for God's wisdom and for the Messiah of Israel to fight for us.

Could it be that Samuel exaggerated what God actually told him? I’m sure he wrote his books well after the fact so perhaps some of the facts may have been distorted?
I know this opens the scripture up to scrutiny, but this explanation defends the character and goodness of God.
Just as David may have exaggerated in his writings based on his feelings and emotions during that time.
Perhaps Samuel did the same thing?

I agree with you. Maybe they used the name of God to justify their actions. Maybe that's THEIR interpretation of what happened and not really how God intended to be. They were not perfect. It's hard to conciliate the God that order people to be killed to what Jesus was on earth. Jesus is the truest representation of who God is. God is love. ❤️

    Hi Dr. Brown,
Old Covenant ways say: an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a life for a life, vengeance for violence. The enemies of Israel must be destroyed.
As Christians, we are under a new covenant that says love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you so that they can be transformed just as The Apostle Paul was transformed by the Power of God!
As Christians we must make the distinction between the Old and New Covenant and how the same God deals with humanity differently in the dispensation that we are currently under.
We are under the dispensation of Grace, where Israel has literally been cut off to allow for the gentiles to be grafted in for now.
However, after the rapture of the church God will once again deal with and graft in the people of Israel.
Let me know if something is wrong with my understanding…
    God bless!
    🙏🙏🙏

I’m so glad you brought up Genesis chapter 6. A very controversial chapter in the Bible, but so important. To really understand the whole story of mankind and salvation you have to go back to Genesis chapter 3. That starts the whole story, it’s a seed war, God calls out Satan and he has a genetic seed war with Satan. He has to maintain the line of mankind from Adam to Abraham to David to Jesus, the Messiah, or we all lose. Satan has his minions, fallen angels, very busy polluting the line of mankind. these highbred, half breed, are not named in the book of life. They are not man , born of God after his likeness. Please read Genesis three, and Genesis six over and over, then go out and study all of the information ,it’s everywhere, but you have to start with the Bible, then maybe somebody like Chuck Mistler, Dr. Michael Heiser, L A Marzulli. These are all contemporary, pastors and authors and UA-camrs , they can help you piece the puzzle together. God bless all of you , and praise to God, the Father , Jesus Christ, the son, and the Holy Spirit.

Ultimately, it is a spiritual war, not a physical war - "not of blood," not of bloodlines.
[Jhn 1 : 12-13 NASB95] 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, [even] to those who believe in His name, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
[Eph 6 : 12 NASB95] 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual [forces] of wickedness in the heavenly [places.]

      The key questions are:
What’s the usage of the vague, generic, subjective, multi-usage and modern English word “giants” in English Bibles?
What’s your, and Dr. Brown's, usage of the vague, generic, subjective, multi-usage and modern English word “giants”?

Unfortunately now, the Christians want the Jews out & tell them they're the evil one's until they accept Jesus. The hatred has to stop, period. Not only that, Jesus himself said, “I came first for the lost sheep of the house of Israel!” He didn’t come for gentiles! We Gentiles are most blessed to be grafted into the Jewish people thru the covenant of Abraham in the shed blood of the Messiah! He did. PERIOD.
The very important point that has to be made is that the original sin is to eat from the tree of KNOWLEDGE of GOOD and EVIL, without knowledge of the TRUTH, who Yeshua, Jesus, claimed to be. Without the RESURRECTION, who Jesus also claimed to be.
When anyone does that that person DIES. And that is precisely what everyone, who does not believe in the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ, does when they make a MORAL assertion. They eat from the tree of KNOWLEDGE of GOOD and EVIL. Only the TRUTH, Jesus Christ himself, can make you TRULY FREE to not call good what is evil or evil what is good, and that starts happening when you start believing in the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ, Yeshua HaMashiack yIsrael.
